“Our home was destroyed by Israeli rockets, and my father’s best friend was killed by a bullet while he protected my father. I’m studying graphic design not only because I like drawing, but also because I want to share with the world about the impact of the occupation through my art.” - Carla, 18
Meet Carla Gedeon.
In the quote above, she recounts the heart-breaking trauma her family experienced under the occupation while she was just a baby. Some of you may be familiar with this effervescent Dar al-Kalima University College of Arts and Culture sophomore, who was interviewed during our July Webinar, Pandemic & the Creative Response. She remains hopeful despite Palestine’s double lockdown from the global Covid-19 crisis and the ongoing Israeli occupation.
Hearing Carla’s story, many of you asked, What can I do?
Resilience and hope amidst trauma is a common thread among Dar al Kalima’s students, because of friends like you. Your gift during our #BeTheKey campaign will help to unlock hope for students like Carla, the next generation of creative leaders in Palestine.
