All Four Wastewater Pumps Go Down at Palm Beach Co. Utilities Dept.
County Warns Against Flushing Wipes & Other Items
As reported in The Palm Beach Post, all four of Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department's wastewater pumps were clogged on April 14, 2020.  The facility, which processes about four million gallons a day from local homes and businesses , required a  team of three utility  m echanics  to remove the compacted masses clogging the system. The pumps then had to be reassembled before returning to operation.

Although this was the first time such an event has occurred, the county wants to make sure it's the last.

So, what's to blame for these "super clogs"? Wipes! It seems that residents have been flushing large numbers of the non-biodegradable cloths. Many consumers may have been misled by packages of wipes claiming to be flushable. But make no mistake, these wipes have wreaked havoc on our county's wastewater pumping facility.

How can we help prevent another stoppage?
Here's a list of useful guidelines we have issued to all of our customers:
  • Do not flush anything other than toilet paper - not even "flushable" wipes
  • Do not dump grease or fats down your garbage disposal, toilets, or sink drains
  • Do not remove or dispose of raw sewage on your own
  • Make sure your drainage lines are ready to handle extended use
We're here when you or your neighbors need us!
As we are all spending extended time in our homes, we want to ensure that drainage systems are flowing smoothly. No one should be faced with sewage issues while isolating in their home.

If you are concerned about your drainage system, we suggest a fast service, home check-up and flush-out. This service includes a waste system assessment (video inspection), line drawing, and drainage line flush. It's ideal for homes experiencing issues such as repeated backups or overflows. In most cases, the assessment and service are completed in one appointment in just a couple of hours - and relief is immediate! Learn more here: https://pipelt.com/sewer-drain-cleaning/

While the fast service, home check-up and flush-out does not include mechanical cleaning, repairs, or pipe rehabilitation, it can relieve drainage lines, identify issues, and allow for smooth and efficient flow. The included video inspection and line drawing are yours to keep and document the actual condition of your system.

Please feel free to share this information with friends and family who may benefit from our specially-priced, expedited service. It's a great way to have peace of mind during your extended time at home!

Here are some of the steps we are taking to help protect our team members and our customers:
  • We are observing all government recommendations
  • Enhanced cleaning and safety measures are being administered by all PTI staff in our offices, warehouse, and job sites
  • Customers who are ill or have been in contact with others who may be ill, should alert PTI and reschedule services
  • We may contact customers regarding rescheduling due to staffing needs or recommended guidelines
  • Due to the nature of our service environment (waste products), we may choose to implement additional safety precautions for the health and safety of our team members and customers
  • In order to serve our neighbors, we have added a cost-saving fast service check-up and flush-out
