New Schedule for City’s Free Document Shredding
Mark your calendars for February 10 - 11 for first of three shred events scheduled for 2023
To help Palm Desert residents and businesses dispose of sensitive documents such as tax records, bank statements, and legal documents safely and securely, the City of Palm Desert and Burrtec Waste and Recycling Services will now offer free document shredding events three times each year.
The first of these events is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11. Two additional shredding events will be scheduled for May and an another date later in the year. Shredding begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. each day or when the truck is full, whichever occurs first.
Acceptable items include stapled and bound office and/or glossy paper, file folders, and envelopes. Paper clips are allowed, but binders and notebooks will not be accepted.
The shredding event will be held at the Palm Desert Civic Center, 73510 Fred Waring Drive. This is a drive-through, drop-off only event and no appointment is necessary. Residents and businesses alike are limited to ten boxes per day; boxes and bags will not be returned.

Support Voices for Children by attending a Concert at The Gardens
Voices for Children recruits, trains, and supports members of the community to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). CASAs are volunteers who make a commitment to advocate for the needs of a child in foster care. A CASA gets to know the child’s situation, communicates with professionals on the case, and makes sure the child’s needs are being met. Over time, a CASA often becomes the most consistent person in a child’s life. At regular court hearings required for all children in foster care, our CASAs report on the children’s progress and needs, which is essential for judges to make the best decisions for their futures.

The McCallum Theatre 2022-2023 season kicked off back in October with comedian Lewis Black and enjoyed sold out audiences for a variety of performances in November and around the holidays. As the new year begins, the internationally-acclaimed Palm Desert theater is gearing up for nightly shows featuring world-class talent, McCallum favorites, great direct-from-Broadway shows and more than two dozen performances not previously seen at the Theatre.

Among the Winter/Spring highlights include Neil Sedaka, Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour, Itzhak Perlman, Paul Anka, Palm Springs Legends, The Piano Guys, the Lincoln Center production of My Fair Lady, Broadway smash On Your Feet: The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, An Intimate Evening with David Foster and Katharine McPhee, The Kingdom Choir, Charo, the not-to-be-missed Broadway musical, Come From Away and the 25th Anniversary of Riverdance.

The award-winning McCallum Theatre Education program continues to serve many thousands of students, educators and community members each season with signature programs including the Aesthetic Education Program, Field Trip and Online Performance Series, Palm Desert Choreography Festival and Open Call Talent Project. Since its inception, McCallum Theatre Education has served nearly a million people at no cost to the participants.

McCallum Theatre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Ticket sales account for 60% of the Theatre’s operating costs. The remainder is raised through the generosity of individuals, businesses and foundations. There are a variety of ways to support the McCallum Theatre from membership in the Friends Circle or President’s Circle up to Annual Leadership Giving Circle, Founders Circle and Legacy Circle. Show sponsorships and direct support of education initiatives are also great ways to help assure the long-term fiscal health of the Valley’s premier performing arts venue. For more information on how to support the McCallum Theatre, call 760-346-7505 or go to mccallumtheatre.org and click on “Giving.”
