News and Notices

LAST OPPORTUNITY FOR SACRAMENT OF PENANCE BEFORE EASTER Our last penance service will be Saturday, April 1 at 10:30am. It has long been the Church’s tradition to confess our sins before Easter. There will be no confessions on Saturday, April 8.

MEET THE NEW DIRECTOR OF MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS MINISTRY Come to the hospitality hour after 10:00am and 12:00pm Masses on Palm Sunday, April 2 to meet Anisa Ralls, the new Director of MHWM at St James Cathedral. Anisa will be in Cathedral Hall and will be available to meet with anyone who would like to learn more about the ministry or to volunteer, or who needs resources.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU A young woman with a challenging physical disability lives independently trying her best to cover all of her own expenses. She works at a business not far from her apartment but the steep hill she needs to navigate makes it impossible for her to get to work without hiring a driver for transportation. The expense to get to work acts as a drain on her budget and she ended up short of rent money. Realizing she needed help, she called the St Vincent de Paul Helpline (206-767-6449). Thanks to your help, we were able to give some relief to her financial burden. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.

CATHEDRAL YOUNG ADULTS If you’re looking for community and to grow deeper in your devotion to Jesus Christ, you’re invited to join our weekly Young Adult Gathering! We meet every Sunday at the Pastoral Outreach Center from 6:30-8:00pm immediately following the 5:30pm Mass. A simple supper and drinks will be provided, and parking is available at O’Dea. Information, Andrew Braley, abraley@stjamescathedral.org or text 206-330-1512.

ST JAMES HOUSING ADVOCACY COMMITTEE MARCH 23 According to the Cathedral’s most recent vision statement, “we listen to the voices of the poor and marginalized.” The St. James Housing Advocacy Committee invites you to their upcoming meeting on Thursday, March 23 at 7pm to learn more about how you can use your voice on behalf of those who are unhoused. Information, Patrick Barredo, pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org or 206-382-4515.

THE WAY OF THE CROSS is a wonderful Lenten tradition in the Church. There are two opportunities to pray the Stations each week: on Mondays following 12:10pm Mass, and Fridays following the 8:00am Mass. The Cathedral Stations of the Cross are the work of Joan Brand-Landkamer, inspired by 20th-century French artist Georges Rouault.

JOURNEY OF THE ELECT Lent is a time of intensive prayer for our Elect, who are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 8 at 8:30pm. Please pray for those to be baptized: Celeste Axelson ▪ Dave Duche ▪ Kate Fay ▪ Olivia Hall ▪ Sherri Pimentel ▪ Aster Starr ▪ Jacob Hughes. Visit the Place of Prayer near the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary to read the special intentions of each one of our Elect, and pray for them in a special way during this season of Lent.

CHRISM MASS On Thursday, March 30, at 7:00pm, you are invited to join Archbishop Etienne and the priests of the Archdiocese of Seattle for the annual Chrism Mass, during which oils are blessed for use in the celebration of the sacraments at the Easter Vigil and throughout the coming year. The Chrism Mass will also be livestreamed on the Archdiocese of Seattle Vimeo/Facebook pages. All are welcome.

TOILETRY DONATIONS If you are traveling and staying at a hotel, consider bringing the small toiletries back to St. James. There is a donation bin located in the Cathedral Bookstore. Our St. Vincent de Paul conference packages the toiletries and distributes them to those in need. Thank you!

MINDFUL ALTERNATIVES SUPPORT GROUP Monthly support group for family members of adult children with mental illness. Meets via Zoom on the last Saturday of each month. SCAM ALERT! Cybercrime is hitting dioceses nationwide. If you receive a message from Father Ryan (or other Cathedral staff) from a @gmail address asking for help or requesting you to purchase a gift card, please delete it. It is a scam! This email scam is happening across the country. When in doubt, contact the parish office to verify the legitimacy of any request you receive from the parish. Thank you! TEEN, YOUNG ADULT AND ADULT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FAITH FRIENDS MINISTRY Faith Friends is a unique blend of our Faith Mentor, children’s faith formation program, and an inclusion ministry. The ministry's goal is to give children and teens ages 7- 18 with physical, cognitive and/or intellectual disabilities access to the parish community, social events, and faith formation. Perhaps the most unique aspect of the Faith Friends program is the Faith Peer program. Faith Peers are teens and young adults who have chosen to live out their discipleship and share some of their personal time in dedication and service to the goals of the program. Information, Jennifer Wong, 206-619-0816, faithfriends@stjames-cathedral.org, or www.faithfriendsstjames.org.
