Letter from
Fr. Joseph:
Enter into the Sacred Triduum:
"I Thirst"
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus:
With this Sunday – Palm Sunday, we begin the Holiest Week of the year, including the Easter Triduum which continues into the most grace-filled octave of Easter & Divine Mercy Sunday.
As we begin this holiest week of the year, I want to encourage everyone to be moved by the heart wrenching words of Our Lord during his agony in the garden: "Will you not spend one Hour with me."
To prepare our hearts for the graces He desires to pour out upon us in these days, we need to ask the Lord for the gift of a renewed conversion to Him.
With this in mind, in his Name I invite you to our Lenten Penance Service with individual confession available, this Sunday, just before the Palm Sunday Mass, from 9am to 9:45am in the Rectory Chapel. We will have 4 priests hearing confessions. But, COME EARLY!
Then at 10am our Palm Sunday Mass begins on the rectory front lawn with the first gospel & the blessing of palms, followed by a short procession around the block and into church.
During these sacred days, especially of the Holy Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday & Saturday/Easter Sunday), as much as possible, try to reduce the business and avoid, when ever possible, those activities that will distract you from Our Lord. Try to spend some quiet time each day in Our Lord's presence. Most of all, come to each of the sacred Liturgies of the Triduum.
Jesus yearns with profound and heart wrenching longing for our loving company. As so many are busy with many things, may we seek to console his Sacred Heart so wounded for love of us and by our lukewarm love for Him.
As Jesus said from the cross "I thirst."
May we thirst with Him and seek to satisfy his thirst for the salvation of souls and for our love.
Please ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as to who you might invite to join us at our Liturgies or to come with you back to Confession.
Please see the following brief teachings below on the significance of each of our liturgical celebrations.
You remain in my prayers.
In Jesus thru Mary & St Joseph,
Fr Joseph

What is the Sacred Triduum?
Holy Week is the most solemn and glorious week in Christianity, the pinnacle of the liturgical year.
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday (when Jesus made his final entrance into Jerusalem) and culminates with Easter Sunday. As Holy Week progresses to its final days the solemnity heightens.
THE SACRED TRIDUUM
Sundown on Holy Thursday to sundown on Easter Sunday is considered the most solemn part of the liturgical year. This three-day period is referred to as the Easter Triduum, also known as the Sacred Triduum, or Paschal Triduum.
The word "triduum" comes from the Latin word triduum, which comes from tris (“three”) + dies (“day”).
Basically, the Sacred Triduum is one great festival recounting the last three days of Jesus' life on earth, the events of his Passion and Resurrection, when the Lamb of God laid down his life in atonement for our sins.
"Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery" (USCCB).
It is known as the "Paschal Mystery" because it is the ultimate fulfillment of the ancient Jewish Passover (or Pasch), which itself was a recollection of how God brought the Jews out of their slavery in Egypt. The spotless lamb was slaughtered at the Passover meal and consumed—that same night the destroying angel "passed over" the homes marked with the blood of the Passover Lamb, and those covered by the Blood were saved. This was the Old Testament prefigurement of Jesus' work at the Last Supper—where he inserted himself as the Paschal Lamb—and Calvary, where the sacrifice was offered to save us from our slavery to sin. With the Holy Eucharist, we consume the victim that died for our sins.
The Paschal Mystery is, therefore, God's plan of redemption for the fallen human race through the passion, death, and resurrection of the God-man Jesus Christ. It is one marvelous event stretched out over three days.

Chrism Mass
The Chrism Mass is this coming Monday, March 25. This will be in Sacred Heart Cathedral in Newark. The Mass is at 8pm, but we need to be there by 7:30 or earlier to secure a seat. We are actually leaving from St Antoninus by carpool at 7pm sharp.
The solemn Mass will be celebrated by Cardinal Joseph Tobin and concelebrated by all priests of the Archdiocese of Newark, including the priests of St. Antoninus.
At this Chrism Mass, the Cardinal and the priests will bless the Holy Oils which are the sacramental oils that we will use at our Easter Vigil and throughout the year.
Also at this Mass, all the priests, including our own pastor, will be making a Renewal of Priestly Commitment.
Again, the Chrism Mass is today at 8pm, and leaving from here at 7 pm.

Our Lenten online retreat
33 DAYS TO EUCHARISTIC GLORY
is ongoing.

|
|
|
|
By tomorrow, Saturday, we would be on Day 25.
Then we pause for 7 days. There will be NO 33 Days Zoom meetings during Holy Week (Palm Sunday to Holy Saturday).
We will resume our retreat meetings on the eve of Easter Sunday, March 31 (Day 26)- and continue on for another 7 days, ending on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 7- Day 33, the day of our Eucharistic Consecration.
We will offer the Eucharistic Consecration Prayer during our Divine Mercy Mass, as we consecrate ourselves, along with the whole parish.
If you will not be with us at St Antoninus during our Divine Mercy Mass, please pray this Consecration Prayer on your own after receiving Holy Communion, wherever you would be. It is very good to pray this before Jesus in the Eucharist.
For "good redundancy" and to pray collectively as we have been doing, we will pray the same Consecration prayer on that same day, Divine Mercy Sunday at 7pm, prior to our Rosary on
Zoom.

The Year of Parish Revival began on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, June 11, 2023 . As we have entered this new season of grace, Bishop Cozzens has composed a beautiful prayer for the Revival and the Church. We pray in particular for our beloved St Antoninus Church....
Prayer for the Eucharistic Revival of the Church
Lord Jesus Christ, you give us your flesh and blood for the life of the world, and you desire that all people come to the Supper of the Sacrifice of the Lamb.
Renew in your Church the truth, beauty, and goodness contained in the Most Blessed Eucharist.
Jesus living in the Eucharist, come and live in me.
Jesus healing in the Eucharist, come and heal me.
Jesus sacrificing yourself in the Eucharist, come and suffer in me.
Jesus rising in the Eucharist, come and rise to new life in me.
Jesus loving in the Eucharist, come and love in me.
Lord Jesus Christ, through the paschal mystery of your death and resurrection made present in every Holy Mass, pour out your healing love on your Church and on our world.
Grant that as we lift you up during this time of Eucharistic Revival, your Holy Spirit may draw all people to join us at this Banquet of Life. You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Eucharist, Pray for us.
