Worship this Sunday


Join us for worship this Sunday, April 13th for our Palm Sunday tradition of marching around our property with the llamas from the Liles farm!  We are excited to welcome them back, and we will have palm branches from Eco Palms.  We will begin worship outside, and we encourage you to arrive early to get a parking spot and gather around the llamas who will arrive around 10:00 a.m.  Following our procession, we will move back inside for the rest of our worship.

Important Message from Pastor Matthew 


Pastor Matthew has informed session that he has accepted a new call and his last day as pastor of Highland will be Sunday, April 27th. Following worship on Sunday, April 27th, session has called for a congregational meeting to dissolve the call between Rev. Matthew Benz-Whittington and Highland.

Free Little Neighborhood Item of the Week


Our Free Little Neighborhood Item of the week is boxed meals.  Next time you’re at the grocery store, please pick up any boxed meals that would be easy for a person to cook at home.  



Holy Week at Highland 


Palm Sunday, April 13th - We will walk our property with Palms and shouts of ‘Hosanna’ for Palm Sunday on April 13th  


Maundy Thursday, April 17th - We will have a combined Maundy Thursday/Good Friday service in the sanctuary at 6:00 p.m. with communion and reflection on the passion story. 



Easter Sunday, April 20th


Maryville College Easter Sunday Sunrise service, 6:45 a.m. Lloyd Beach on the Maryville College campus. Rain location: Center for Campus Ministry. 


Men’s Breakfast at 9:00 a.m.  in the Fellowship Hall with wonderful food prepared by the men of the church and great time for fellowship. 


Easter Worship 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary


Egg Hunt 11:30 a.m. on the church property.

Happy Highlanders

Sunday, April 15th


We hope you can join us Tuesday, April 15th for a trip to Beck Cultural Exchange Center in Knoxville. The Beck Cultural Exchange Center's mission is to be the place where Black history and culture are preserved, nurtured, taught, and continued.  We are excited to tour this facility and learn, discover and experience the rich legacy of African Americans inside a vibrant Cultural Corridor, the Beck Cultural Corridor.


WHEN: Tues., April 15, 10:45 a.m. at Highland, where we will carpool to Beck and enjoy lunch after at 71 South, a nearby restaurant located in the heart of the Urban Wilderness in Knoxville. Their building is one of the oldest churches in Knoxville, dating back to the 1930s.


PLEASE NOTE THE TIME WILL BE 10:45 a.m. and we likely won't be back before 3 p.m.  We have a lunch reservation at 1:15 p.m.

PCUSA Special Offering One Great Hour of Sharing 


Typically received during the season of Lent, each gift to One Great Hour of Sharing supports efforts to relieve hunger through the Presbyterian Hunger Program, promote development through the Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People, and assist in areas of disaster through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. All three programs work in different ways to serve individuals and communities in need. From initial disaster response to ongoing community development, their work fits together to provide people with safety, sustenance, and hope.


The Mission Committee will provide Moment for Missions about this offering and we will officially collect the with using the special pew envelopes on Easter Sunday, April 20.



Documentary Screening at New Providence 

Sunday, May 4, 12:15 pm


The Sustainability Committee from Highland and The Green Team from New Providence invite you to screening of the environmental documentary Common Ground, an environmental documentary about regenerative agriculture and the positive power of soil as a solution for both climate and human health.

 Screening will be at New Providence on Sunday, May 4 at 12:15 pm in the Westminster Hall. A simple sandwich lunch will be provided for people to eat while watching. There will be an informal discussion to follow the screening. Reach out to Elan Lloyd for more questions. 




Prayers, Concerns and Joys

We lift-up prayers for those among our community who are shut in. Be with them as they are separated in body from their loved ones.

 

Diane Hicks - Church member Diane has been dealing with an issue with her eye that doctors have not been able to alleviate so far. It has caused discomfort and frustrations. Please hold Diane in your prayers for comfort during this time.


Sandy Walker - Sandy had a procedure at Blount Memorial to remove the fluid from the cyst in her thyroid. The fluid’s report came back with good news and no concerns. Prayers of thanksgiving that this procedure went well! 


Keith and Ruth Law - Pat Cox requests prayers for her aunt and uncle, Keith and Ruth. Keith has recently been diagnosed with stage four cancer that is spreading, and Ruth has been on dialysis for the past year. Please hold Pat’s family in your prayers.
