Palos Park Rid Litter Day
Saturday, April 24, 2021
9:00 am

Please join us!

This year's Rid Litter Day is on Saturday, April 24. We will meet at 9:00 am in front of the Village Recreation Center, at which time gloves and bags will be distributed and areas assigned. Service hour forms can be signed at that time.

The first Palos Park Rid Litter Day, organized by The Beautification Committee, was in 1997. An estimated 3 tons of litter has been picked up over that time in our Village, thanks to Rid Litter Day volunteers. Thank you to all who have participated in the past. You have made a positive difference in our community!
Adopt a Village Boundary Sign

The Beautification Committee is looking for a few volunteers to assist with maintaining the area surrounding the Village entrance signs. As a volunteer you care for one sign at a specific location by tending to the plantings around the base of the sign, including mulching, weeding, planting seasonal plants, etc. For more information please contact the Public Works Department at (708) 671-3721.
Think Before You Throw!

With the arrival of spring, the Illinois Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to be on the lookout for crews picking up litter and asking the public to do its part by properly disposing trash and saving taxpayers millions of dollars a year in unnecessary costs.

If you encounter maintenance vehicles and workers in litter pickup operations, slow down, move over and give them space - it's the law.

  • Last year, IDOT spent approximately $6.1 million on litter pickup.
  • Items tossed onto the road cause distractions, crashes and even injuries.
  • Littering is illegal, subject to a fine of up to $1,500.

Adopt-A-Highway program is resuming normal operations. The program partners IDOT with volunteer groups to help keep the state's non-interstate roadsides clean. Anyone can apply by completing an online application found on the IDOT website and adopting a two-mile section of highway.
Bike Palos Park

Palos Park is a biking mecca with beautiful biking trails and an abundance of stunning places to ride. Mayor Mahoney is proud of Palos Park's riding culture and believes it benefits everyone from the kids who ride for fun to the adults who take weekend biking trips. Visit our website to learn more.

Part of fostering our biking community is also encouraging bike safety. The Palos Park Police Department is giving out free helmets to children in Palos Park as part of the National Children-N-Safety program. Head injuries and falls from bicycles are often the main reason children visit emergency rooms during the summer months. Police hope to reduce the number of head injuries by handing out helmets and encouraging young riders to start this habit early.
