Panel | Henry N. Cobb, Preston Scott Cohen, Joseph Connors, Nader Tehrani, and Marion Weiss: The Predicament of Architecture

How do architects address the predicament between form and function?

A panel of influential practitioners and educators will offer their views, using as a springboard the recently published book Henry N. Cobb: Words & Works 1948-2018. Nader Tehrani will instigate the discussion with historian Joseph Connors and architects Cobb, Preston Scott Cohen, and Marion Weiss.

This lecture is co-sponsored with The Architectural League of New York. Tickets are free for Cooper Union students and faculty with valid ID, and League members.
Exhibition | The Tetrahedral Kites of Alexander Graham Bell

This exhibition provides a brief visual survey of the tetrahedral kites developed by Alexander Graham Bell at the turn of the 20th century. At Beinn Bhreagh, his estate in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, Bell guided a team of skilled engineers and fabricators as they systematically probed and documented the performance of a diverse, imaginative array of kite designs. While Bell's work resulted in technical innovations that advanced early aviation, his massive kites and aerodromes were unsuccessful in powered flight. Their development, however, led to Bell's discovery of tetrahedral trusses and space frames decades before their widespread adoption by architects and engineers.

Curated by Chris Dierks

This exhibition is open to current Cooper Union students, faculty, and staff.
Toward a Concrete Utopia: Architecture in Yugoslavia, 1948-1980

Students of the School of Architecture designed and fabricated five models featured in this exhibition currently on view in the 3rd Floor Exhibition Galleries at the Museum of Modern Art. The Project began as an elective class "Modeling Yugoslav Architecture," taught by Matthew Worsnick, 2016-17 MRC Fellow in Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art.

The exhibition was organized by Martino Stierli, The Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design, The Museum of Modern Art, and Vladimir Kulic, guest curator, with Anna Kats, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Architecture and Design, The Museum of Modern Art.
