Ranney School is pleased to announce the establishment of the Kate Greenberg Art Purchase Prize Award, beginning next year for the 2022-23 school year. The award will be given to a senior whose work is selected for inclusion in Ranney’s visual art collection. The Visual Arts Department faculty will select the winning piece from eligible works created at Ranney School during a student's time in Upper School and exhibited in the senior art show. Eligible works may include paintings, photographs, drawings, or sculptures that meet the criteria established by the Visual Arts Department for Ranney's visual art collection.
This award was created thanks to a generous gift from Visual Arts Chair Ms. Kate Greenberg and her husband Mr. Stephen Wilkus, parents of Ranney alumnae Erin '06 and Sophie '09. Ms. Greenberg, who is retiring after 25 years, shared, "I believe passionately in the power of a robust visual arts education to help stimulate imaginations, develop strong powers of observation, and bring creativity to life. We live in a visual age and the arts help students develop essential skills for today and tomorrow's world. As I retire, I am delighted to create this legacy as a way to recognize and support Ranney's talented artists."
At Ranney, the Visual Arts are an essential part of the curriculum at every level of learning from Early Childhood through Grade 12. Gifts in honor of Ms. Greenberg may be made to the Ranney Fund in support of the Visual Arts Department, the Art Purchase Prize Award, or any other area supported by the Ranney Fund.
