Message from Nurse Aberdeen

As we near the end of the school year, I would like to remind you that your child’s medication should be picked up from the clinic by May 25th . School policy does not allow for medication to remain in the school over the summer. It will be important for you to make arrangements to pick up your child’s medication since medications may not go home with the student. Any medication left in the clinic after May 25th will be discarded according to policy.

For your convenience, the clinic will be opening August 7th to accept your child’s medication and completed medication forms for the new school year.

If you have any questions, please contact the school clinic at 547-8326

Have a safe and healthy summer

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY NEWS!

Advisers/Sponsors: Ms. Morrison, English teacher and Ms. Robbins, Math teacher.

**IMPORTANTMrs. Milian will no longer be the sponsor/Adviser for National Honor Society with the start of the 2023-24 school year. Please direct all questions and concerns to Ms. Morrison or Ms. Robbins.

RISING JUNIOR & SENIOR STUDENTS & PARENTS!

Is your student interested in being invited to join National Honor Society next school year? Well, here are some important details to keep in mind, so your child can start working on his/her “resume”.  These are the requirements for students to be considered as candidates for the Nease chapter of National Honor Society:

·      Eligibility for National Honor Society:

o  NHS is open only to Juniors and Seniors

o  3.80 SHARP WEIGHTED GPA (not rounded)

o  Rising Juniors (Sophomores now)minimum of 40 documented service hours IN eSCHOOL (HAC) documented by the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL at the start of your Junior year.

o  Rising Seniors (Juniors now)minimum of 50 documented hours IN eSCHOOL (HAC) by the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL at the start of your senior year.

o  Enrolled in at least 2 Honors, AP, or DE courses (or a combo of any of these) for the school year 2023-24.

o  IMPORTANT!! STUDENTS! PLEASE be sure to get your service hours submitted to your counselors as soon as you complete them! REMEMBER! Your counselors ARE NOT on campus during the summer so PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL AUGUST TO SUBMIT HOURS.

·      Eligible Juniors and Seniors who have the required GPA and required service hours at the start of the school year, will receive an invitation for an “Informational Meeting” in September to discuss the requirements and expectations of all members in National Honor Society. At that point they will receive a “Selection/Resume” packet that must be completed and submitted by deadline date.

·      Eligibility does not guarantee admission. Other factors that will determine candidacy are leadership, school involvement in clubs, events, and activities, outside leadership and club involvement (ie: Scouts, church, community groups, work, etc.). The Faculty Council (8 anonymous faculty members) review all the resumes and make the final decisions regarding invitation to become a member or does not meet needed requirements. Juniors that did not meet requirements have the opportunity to become eligible at the start of Senior year. All confirmed candidates will be inducted into the club in a ceremony that will take place sometime in October. Confirmation letters will be sent out during the last week of September.

·      NOTE – students and parents – please understand that commitment to our chapter of National Honor Society requires a substantial dedication of time and service to our school, our students, and our community. Members WILL BE REQUIRED to complete 25 National Honor Society sponsored community service hours each year of membership to remain in good standing with the club and receive their stole for graduation. The philosophy and commitment of this chapter is to maintain a high level of service and commitment to our students, faculty, and community and this involves volunteering outside of school at community events and supporting our feeder elementary/middle schools. These expectations directly align to our chapter mission statement & purpose:

“The purpose of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students of Allen D. Nease High School.”

·      Parents can contact Ms. Morrison or Ms. Robbins for further information or check the club webpage https://www-nhs.stjohns.k12.fl.us/nhs/

From the Community

Looking for families to host a Rotary Exchange Student for 3-4 months during 2023/24 School Year

Hosting an exchange student brings the world to your family and community!  It allows you to experience – up close and personal – different cultures, languages and customs, and all the excitement that comes with it.

By hosting an exchange student from another part of the world, you’re giving these brave students the gift of experiencing a new culture and way of life while feeling safe, supported and a part of a loving family – something you would hope others would do for your own child.

Rotary will provide background and reference checks, training, and support for your hosting experience.  Rotary will also provide the student with comprehensive insurance, training and a monthly stipend (the students typically have their own spending money as well).  Rotary will also keep in regular contact with you and the student to ensure that everyone is having a good experience.

We’re looking for several families to host two Nease High School students for 3-4 months each.  Students will live with several families throughout the year to gain perspective on how different families live.  My wife and I have hosted 5 different students in years past and have loved the experience.  The students truly become part of your family.

If you would like more information about becoming a host parent, please reach out to either:
