SAT-NCR (Non-College Reportable) Exam – 12^th Grade ONLY

This test is for 12^th grade students who have not met the FSA Grade 10 ELA and/or the Algebra 1 EOC graduation requirement. Students who participate in this SAT-NCR experience will be granted accommodations (i.e., extended time) in hopes that the extra time will give the student a better chance to acquire the necessary SAT English and Reading (EBRW) score of 480 to meet the FSA Grade 10 ELA graduation requirement and/or SAT Math score of 420 to meet the Algebra 1 EOC graduation requirement. However, because these accommodations are not officially approved by College Board, results earned during a non-college reportable SAT administration cannot be used for admissions or scholarship purposes. 

The SAT-NCR will be offered at Nease on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 to 12^th Graders ONLY. The cost of the SAT-NCR exam is $60.00. Payment can be made via this link in School Pay. Payment is due by Friday, September 8th, 2023.

ACT Non-College Reportable Exam – 12^th Grade ONLY

This test is for 12^th grade students who have not met the FSA Grade 10 ELA and/or the Algebra 1 EOC graduation requirement. CHANGES to the PSAT - Read important info below!!

Deadline for 9th & 11th to register is Thursday, Aug 31st. There are NO exceptions to this deadline as the exam is now computer-based and College Board has a hard deadline for schools to register.

College Board has decided to go digital. In order to test students on computers, we must make some changes from our traditional schedule. Please see below for specifics on 9th, 10th, and 11th grade test dates and specifics. 

Nease High School will administer the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test – National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) to all 10th grade students on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. The purpose of the test is to give all students an opportunity to experience taking a college readiness test and identify students who might benefit from advanced coursework. 

There is no need to register 10th grade students, as they will receive their test at no cost through state funding. However, if 10th grade students choose to opt-out please return PSAT-10th-Grade-opt-out-letter to Ms. Messenger in PH 225 or at the front office desk.

Students in 11th grade wishing to take the test MUST register online. Please click here to register and pay: PSAT SchoolPay  The last day to pay & register will be Thursday, August 31, 2023. There is NO possibility of testing if payment is not received by this date. Your student’s Score Report for the PSAT/NMSQT® will be available in mid-to-late November from College Board. The PSAT is the ONLY exam that is used for 11^th graders to qualify for the National Merit Scholars Program. Additionally, a score of 430 on the PSAT Math qualifies as a concordant score for the Algebra I EOC.

Students in 9th grade – Exam date: Monday, October 16, 2023 (This is a teacher planning day. Students are agreeing to come test on a non-school day.)

9^th graders wishing to take the test:

• Must be in Geometry or HIGHER
• Must agree to come in on a non-school day (Teacher Planning Day)

If you qualify to test, you must register online. If you have already applied for accommodations with CollegeBoard, you do not need to apply again, you retain the accommodations until one year after graduation date. However, if your accommodations change, it is YOUR responsibility to complete a new form and resubmit in plenty of time..

Nease Theatre News

On Wednesday, August 23^rd, from 3:00 to 5:30 PM, we have auditions for our competitive one-act The Genuine Genie by Thomas Hischak.

On August 29^th and 30^th, we will be holding auditions for the Nease High School production of A Christmas Carol.

Students that are interested in auditioning or being a part of the tech crew should see Mr. Robinson in the PAC (I206) on Gold Days/Wednesdays to pick up both an audition packet and permission slip, and to sign up for an audition.

Students will also be able to get information about joining International Thespian Society (and pick up a permission slip) at the School Club Fair. 

Nease High School is home of one the most unique clubs not only in our school and county, but in the sate of Florida. Our students are making history and accomplishing feats that many students (AND ADULTS!) have only dreamed of! The Paleontology Club members at Nease High School have spent the last year learning how to remove a field jacket, preserve and prepare authentic dinosaur fossils found in the Badlands of Montana. 

This summer, these students had the chance of a lifetime to put their lab skills to use in the field. 10 Nease High School students traveled to Montana, and spent a week in the field, unearthing dinosaur fossils, learning how to jacket them in the field for removal, and will be awaiting their arrival this fall for preparation, pending approval from the Bureau of Land Management and the area museums. Our team unearthed Triceratops fossils (including a rare fully intact jawbone with a battery of teeth), Velociraptor, Hadrosaur, and microfossils from small vertebrate mammals and smaller dinosaurs.

Athletic Clearance

Prior to participating with a Nease High School athletic team, all students are required to complete the athletic clearance process.

Please keep in mind that the FHSAA requires all student athletes to view free NFHS video courses on concussions, heat illness, and sudden cardiac arrest (see instructions below). Signatures on the EL3 form indicate that your athlete has completed these three video courses. The FHSAA also requires that all student athletes have at least a 2.0 unweighted GPA to be eligible for participation.

Athletic Fee/Pay to Participate

The purpose of the Nease Athletic Fee is to help address the costs associated with operating a high school athletic department. Currently the St. Johns County School Board pays each coach’s coaching supplement, and all remaining costs are the responsibility of the athletic department and teams. The athletic fee helps cover the following expenses:

·        Game officials

·        Indoor and Outdoor Athletic Facility maintenance

·        Sports Medicine

·        Security

·        Athletic Leadership Council activities

·        Student-Athlete Letters and Awards

·        FHSAA membership dues and other fees

The 2023-24 fee will be as follows: $75 Per Sport Played

This fee must be paid prior to the student-athlete participating in his/her first contest. Nease Athletics appreciates your attention and compliance regarding payment of this fee. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Nease Athletic Department.

Academy of Hospitality & Tourism’s First Marketing Class DECA Fundraiser was a Success!

Thanks to all the Nease students who got a jump-start on their school spirit by taking part in the Tie Dye Party on Tuesday, August 15^th, during all lunches.

For just $5, students could bring any piece of white clothing and were provided with all the supplies needed for their tie dye creations! 

Nease students will be sporting their custom spirit wear at the first football game of the season, with a tie dye theme, on Friday, August 18^th.



If students want to show their Panther Pride, they can always pick up football-game-themed items in the Spirit Box, Nease’s School Store Vending Machine, located in the Media Center. The Spirit Box is run by the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism.  Check the Spirit Box weekly for new items!

Mrs. Kennedy has visited all 11^th and 12^th grade TOK classrooms this week. Please ask your student for the information provided during their session. 

10^th grade visits are schedule for next week, August 24^th and 25^th. 9^th grade visits are scheduled for August 30^th. She will see students through their English classrooms.

Seniors were given their gold envelopes to begin their college application process with Nease. Please see the contents of the envelope so you are aware of how to request transcripts, secure letters of recommendations and get secondary school reports completed by Mrs. Kennedy. More information is located in the guidance section of this Panther Press.

College visits will begin September. Juniors and Seniors can sign up to attend through Naviance. There is a limit of 5 per year.

The College Fair will be held on September 7^th in our gym, hosted by our own IB Booster Club from 6-8pm. This is a VERY large event. All grade levels are welcome!

Thank you to those that have joined our IB Booster Club.  They are a non-profit charitable organization run by a volunteer board of parents. All parents with students in the IB program are encouraged to join and participate in the IB Booster events. Parent participation, whether occasionally or on a routine basis, contributes to the success of our students in the IB program. Please visit the website at www.neaseibboosters.org for more information. WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL PANTHERS! 

We are so excited to see our returning Panthers and meet our new incoming freshmen! Mrs. Patterson and I are here to support you in every way we can and are looking forward to a great 2023-24 school year. Freshmen, I look forward to meeting all of your during the next few weeks during our Media Center orientation rotations through your English classes. SENIORS!! MAKE IT COUNT!! #wearnease!

MEDIA CENTER HOURS AND ACCESS!

WE ARE OPEN!! With a lot of hustle and “muscle” we were able to get our media center space ready for students before the end of August! The media center will be open every day during the following times: Mondays and Tuesday from 8:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 8:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Thursdays from 8:45 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Fridays from 8:45 a.m. – 4 p.m. Students can also eat in our Panther Café during their lunchtime, however, they MUST pick up a lunch pass from us before lunch begins. We will hand out 100 passes per lunch session. We start handing out passes in the morning as soon as the gates are open. *Please note -these hours are subject to change due to availability of staff, but I promise we do our darndest to stay open as late as we can for our students! STUDENTS PLEASE REMEMBER, every time you come in you MUST check in by scanning your student ID at the circulation desk. 

COFFEE STATION DONATIONS!

In our media center we have a coffee station set up with a Keurig for our students to help themselves to a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in the mornings, during lunch, and after school. With the start of the year, we have no supplies as of yet.  If you are willing and able to help donate so we can keep this going for our students, these are some of the items we need:

·        K -cups (assorted)

·        10 oz. or smaller coffee cups (lots)

·        Creamer (individual packs or powdered. No refrigerated creamers please)

·        Individual sugar packets (no large containers)

Thank you so much for anything you can help out with so we can continue this little “perk” for our students.

Would you like to see your student stay organized this year? Have your student purchase a “Nease Student Planner” for $7. Every freshman has received one for FREE through their English teachers, but we have a limited amount for sale for all 10^th through 12^th graders. The planner is filled with lots of great Nease information right at our Panthers’ fingertips. We will be selling them in the media center until we run out. Cash or check made payable to Nease High School will be accepted. Pick up your planner today! This is a fundraiser for our Nease Link Crew program so please help support this wonderful program that benefits many of our students!

PANTHERS!! Get your “Panther Café Senior Tile”! This is your chance to IMMORTALIZE yourself in our library!

ALL students have the opportunity to take home one of our café area ceiling tiles, paint and personalize it, then have it placed back into our ceiling for a donation of $20. The money raised from this fundraiser will be used to purchase new computers for our media center and other technology enhancements and at the same time have our seniors immortalized in our café as these will never be repainted! You can select two pathways to explore at the conference. There are five options:

Diagnostic Services - The diagnostic services pathway is made up of careers that use tests to detect, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, or other physical conditions.

Some common careers that fall under diagnostic services include:

• Phlebotomist
• Radiology Technologist
• Ultrasound Technologist
• Medical Laboratory Technologist

Therapeutic Services - The therapeutic services pathway is the most popular pathway in health science. It’s focused on working with patients to provide care, treatment, or counseling to improve the patient’s status over time.

• Occupational Therapist
• Physical Therapist
• Respiratory Therapist
• Registered Nurse (RN)

Health Informatics - The health informatics pathway involves a wide variety of occupations made up of people responsible for managing patient information, financial information, and computer applications related to health care.

This pathway includes careers such as:

• Medical Transcriptionist
• Hospital Administrator
• Information Services Technician (IT)

Support Services - The support services pathway is often unnoticed by patients, but it’s what keeps healthcare facilities running. Support services employees work behind the scenes to ensure other health care professionals can accomplish their duties.

Some common careers in support services include:

• Dietary Technician
• Biomedical Equipment Technician
• Medical Librarian
• Hospital Maintenance Engineer
• Supply Chain Coordinator
• Plant Facilities Engineer

Biotechnology Research & Development - The biotechnology research & development pathway is a great fit for students who excel in science classes. It includes a range of careers that use advancements in science and technology to improve healthcare.
