It was so nice to see students on campus today for Panther Pick-up! Thank you to everyone for wearing your mask and trying to social distance. We truly appreciate everyone's efforts!

To make a couple of stations run more efficiently tomorrow, we are making the following suggestions.


  • For a fast pass through textbook check-out: Print schedule from HAC and cross off the courses that do NOT have a textbook for check-out. (These courses will have online resources available to use and/or class sets.) If you have courses not marked off, bring the schedule and go through the check-out line. If all of your courses are marked off, then you do not need to visit textbook check-out in the Media Center.

Brick & Mortar OR Option 2 - Distance Learning
We have been asked by many families selecting option 2, if COVID numbers decrease by August 31st and they feel more comfortable, can their child change to brick and mortar? The answer is yes. We would need the link below completed no later than Thursday, August 27th for the student to be brick and mortar on Monday, August 31st.

If you originally selected brick & mortar and now would like your child to be option 2 - distance learning, please email Mrs. Kunze or any Assistant Principal by Thursday, August 27th for them to be distance learners by Monday, August 31st.

Cafeteria Information
  • All SJCSD Cafeterias have switched back to PayPams. If you had a balance in the SchoolPay account, it has been moved to PayPams for you.
  • Due to COVID, the keypads in the purchasing lines are no longer available for students to enter their student number. Students MUST have their student ID to purchase food in the cafeteria.
  • Everyone is encouraged to use SchoolPay instead of sending in a check or cash for your child's lunch account.
  • There will be no open containers as all food will be individually wrapped.
  • Curbside Service will be available Monday through Friday from 9:45am to 10:15am for ANY distance learning student to purchase food or receive free if on free lunch. Please utilize the last gate on campus and call Mrs. Argitis, Cafeteria Manager, at 547-8289 for gate access.

Parking Information

*Note: if your parking tag is from an auction, you may submit an email or receipt for documentation of payment you received from the group identifying you as the winner of the parking tag. 

Distance Learning Students- if you were issued a parking tag and are distance learning at the start of the school year, your parking tag will be reserved for you upon your return to school. At the time of your return, please email holly.cioffi@stjohns.k12.fl.us to make arrangements to receive your parking tag.  

If you missed picking up your parking tag today, tags can be picked up this Thursday, August 27th from 8:30am to 11am. Please ensure all required documents are uploaded by Wednesday night.

During the first few weeks of school, we will be conducting parking lot counts to see if we can, on a limited basis, sell quarterly parking tags to fill the open spaces due to Distance Learning. If we are able to do this, we will reach out to families on our waiting list to see if they are interested.

Please note that the semester does NOT end at Winter Break; therefore, semester exams will be January 19th through the 22nd at the end of quarter 2 and semester 1.
Student Highlight
Nease student, Rheinhardt Harrison ran a 4:01.34 at Music City Distance Carnival. He finished 7th in a race consisting of professional & collegiate runners and one high school runner (himself) which was won by Harvard grad Kieran Tuntivate in a Thailand National Record of 3:57.87.

Rheinhardt is 16 years old and about to enter his junior year at Nease High School. He surpassed Edward Cheserek's sophomore class mile record of 4:03.29 by two seconds. Edward Cheserek went on to become a 17-time NCAA champion collegiate distance runner for the University of Oregon.

Rheinhardt's time is the fastest high school mile and 1500m time ever run in the state of Florida. It is also a national sophomore record and national age 16 record. The old Florida record was previously set in 2003 by Samuel Vasquez of Flagler Palm Coast who went on to compete in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

To put this in perspective, only 11 high school athletes have ever run a sub-4 mile in the US. Rheinhardt is 1.35 seconds away from becoming the 12th high school athlete to run under 4 minutes in the mile.

August 24th was decided today by the FHSAA as the official start date for fall sports.

PTSO Membership Drive 2020-2021:
This year you have two membership options: 
1)   Regular Membership: includes a NEASE car magnet!- $30.00
2)   Premium Membership: includes a Panther Pride banner (hung on the fence outside Panther Hall all year) and a NEASE car magnet!- $100

PTSO coordinates a quarterly web store, and the fall sale will open on Fri. 8/21 and will run through Mon. 9/7. Show your Panther pride and check out samples at the PTSO table during Panther Pickup! Items can be ordered online and will be available for student pickup at school the week of 9/21; parent/student pick up at Crowley Printing and Supply 101 Marketside Ave Ponte Vedra; or delivered to your home for a small fee.

Schedules go LIVE:
Student schedules will be available on August 21st and will continue to be live as school starts. At this time, schedules in HAC are turned off so that we may proceed with course leveling.

While schedules are live, there will be an opportunity to submit a course review, but those will only be approved for the following reasons that indicate an error:
  • You are in a class for which you have already received a passing grade.
  • Your schedule is missing a class you need for graduation.
  • You have a hole in your schedule.
  • You are missing the next course in the progression from a course already taken. (For example: You took Spanish 1 last year, but Spanish 2 is missing on your schedule.)

When viewing schedules, please keep in mind the following:
  • Class periods and teachers may still change before the finalized release of schedules due to balancing of classes. However, student course placement will not change.
  • Newly hired teachers may be represented by a placeholder on your student’s schedule.
  • Off campus St Johns River State College dual enrollment courses may not be reflected on your NHS schedule until the first day of school, however you should see an “SJRC OFF CAMPUS” placeholder.
  • If you wish to request to have your student’s schedule reviewed because you believe an error was made, a Scheduling Review Form MUST be submitted using this link: https://tinyurl.com/NHSrequestchange2021

The schedule review form will be the ONLY WAY to request a scheduling concern. Schedule requests sent any other way WILL NOT be considered. Please do not email schedule requests to counselors or administrators.

Schedules WILL NOT be reviewed or approved for:
  • Teacher Preference
  • Lunch period preference
  • Class period preference (this includes changing modified periods)
  • Students who do not meet Honors Criteria and request advanced level courses.
  • The course being requested was not requested at registration or prior to the Spring Break deadline.
  • Switching from Brick and mortar to virtual blend.

Nease High School is an at capacity school which means that there are limited seats available in most of our courses. Requests for an academic or elective course change that was not requested at registration or prior to Spring Break will not be approved due to this.

Returning Student Verification & Residency
Some families who have not completed the returning student verification or 9th Grade residency paperwork WILL NOT have HAC access. Please contact our Computer Operator, Ms. Rosenfeld, at Shilo.Rosenfeld@stjohns.k12.fl.us or 547-8298 for assistance.

PSAT
It is time to register your 9th or 11th grader for the PSAT. The FL Department of Education pays for every 10th grader to take the exam, so there is no need to register them as a test will be ordered for every 10th grader. The PSAT is a practice SAT. The score report provides detailed information that can be used to prep for the SAT. We only recommend 9th graders enrolled in Geometry Honors or higher to take the exam in 9th grade. We encourage ALL 11th graders to take the exam, since scores are used for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT will be administered during the school day on Wednesday, October 14th and the cost is $21.

SUMMER READING BINGO!
Now is a great time for students to read books of their choice and/or participate in literacy opportunities throughout the summer, earn some cool prizes, and avoid the “summer slide”. Statistics and extensive studies have been compiled over the years about the decline of learning gains due to summer break. Senior portraits are taken at Leonard's this summer! An email was sent to parents with a personalized access code and instructions on how to book. As soon as students have an access code, the online appointment book can be accessed at Leonards.com.
