Please mark your calendar for Panther Pick-Up. If you have a conflict during your assigned window, you can select a different window, have a parent/grandparent attend, or ask a friend to pick-up items. These are the ONLY dates for Panther Pick-up, so ALL students brick & mortar and distance learners need to attend. We will be distributing laptops and hot spots during Panther Pick-up to those distance learners who requested equipment. Items from the spring that have still not been returned, may be returned during Panther Pick

***************Information in previous Panther Press, but still important ***************************************

We have been asked by many families selecting option 2, if COVID numbers decrease by August 31st and they feel more comfortable, can their child change to brick and mortar? The answer is yes. We would need the link below completed no later than Thursday, August 27th for the student to be brick and mortar on Monday, August 31st.

At this time there are NO additional parking tags available. We have 169 juniors who did not receive a tag. When school starts, we will evaluate the parking lot every period for a week to determine if we can sell any additional full-year or temporary parking tags. We understand the desire to drive to school and appreciate you patience.

PSAT
It is time to register your 9th or 11th grader for the PSAT. The FL Department of Education pays for every 10th grader to take the exam, so there is no need to register them as a test will be ordered for every 10th grader. The PSAT is a practice SAT. The score report provides detailed information that can be used to prep for the SAT. We only recommend 9th graders enrolled in Geometry Honors or higher to take the exam in 9th grade. We encourage ALL 11th graders to take the exam, since scores are used for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT will be administered during the school day on Wednesday, October 14th and the cost is $21.

SAT going forward – due to the cancellations of exams due to COVID-19, providing it is safe from a public health standpoint, SAT will be held each month until the end of the year:
August 29, 2020
September 26 - new administration
October 3, 2020
November 7, 2020
December 5, 2020

Dates for the administration of ACT and SAT for the academic year 2020 – 2021 are all available on the testing website.

SUMMER READING BINGO!
Now is a great time for students to read books of their choice and/or participate in literacy opportunities throughout the summer, earn some cool prizes, and avoid the “summer slide”. Statistics and extensive studies have been compiled over the years about the decline of learning gains due to summer break. Below are 2 graphics that show the best way to avoid the “Summer slide” and how reading just 20 minutes a day increases students scores on standardized tests!

Visit the Media Center web page for details.
