Please take a few minutes to complete the Annual SAC Needs Assessment Survey.
We are required to have 20% of our parents complete the survey and currently only 20 parents have completed - less than 1%. We truly value your input and constructive feedback, so please take a few minutes to complete.
The spring Reality Fair is searching for 10 parent volunteers.
This fantastic event, held in the Media Center on March 30th, gives seniors a look into the complexities of real-life budgeting and supporting a family in our economy. Each volunteer works at a booth which “sells” the students groceries, childcare, rent, vehicles. The event runs from 8:45 am-3:15 on Monday, March 30th. If you are willing to volunteer for the Reality Fair on Monday, March 30th, in the Media Center, please email
Jaime.combs@stjohns.k12.fl.us
Mr. Smith, Ceramic's teacher, has a Donor's Choose request. Any support you can provide, would be much appreciated. Thank you!
For the last month the boys' restrooms have been destroyed on a daily basis with boys urinating on walls and floors, clogging toilets with toilet paper and then defecating in them, tearing soap dispensers off the walls and spreading soap on floors, clogging sinks and leaving water running to flood the floor, etc. We have even had 2 stall partitions torn down. We have been able to catch a few of the vandals, but not everyone. Starting Monday, the only restroom available to boys will be in C-pod. There will be an adult sitting at a table and students will have to sign-in. There are 3 stalls, so 3 boys will be allowed in at a time. We understand that this will be an inconvenience, but it is the only way we can monitor the restrooms. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.
Seniors that missed the deadline for full participation senior dues…if you have paid your $50 by 4:00 Friday, Feb. 28 (as instructed in Remind/Schoology/Instagram)...you may still participate by bringing a check for $40 to Ms. Hurst in D27. The increase in fee is to cover reorder of shirts, increased numbers for food, activities planned, etc.
This MUST BE PAID BY THURSDAY, MARCH 5. This is your final chance to participate in all activities!

FSA / EOC Retakes
We are
half way through FSA ELA 10 and Algebra I graduation requirements. If your student has been absent they must come and see Mrs. Ashcroft in PH229 on their return, to arrange testing. We are trying to do makeups daily, students should be ready to test daily. This will give students time in class, prior to the next round of testing. Results from these retakes may not be out until May. If your student needs this as a graduation requirement I would strongly encourage them to sign up for ACT / SAT and dates of these exams can be found on my testing webpages.

Here are the School Counselor caseloads and appointment links:
Course Registration for the 2020-2021 School Year:
Course registration for the 2020-2021 school year started on Monday, January 13
th
. School Counselors will be in classrooms every day between now and spring break in order to meet with each student one-on-one regarding their individual selections. All of the information regarding scheduling (our schedule to meet with students, the PowerPoint presentation from the parent night, course progressions, the elective video, and course catalog) are available on our website. If parents have specific questions, it is recommended that they write them on their student’s course registration form so that the School Counselors can address those concerns during their individual meeting. Students will receive their recommendation form a few days before their scheduled visit and will need to have spoken with their parents regarding their selections, considered which electives and scheduling options they want, and obtained a parent signature on their recommendation form prior to attending their appointment. For more details, please see the “Checklist for the Course Registration Process” on-line.
This week we will be meeting with: 8
th
graders at the middle schools. Please be patient with us while we are off campus.
Parents:
Do you work for a company that hires high school graduates? Would you like an opportunity to recruit Nease High School seniors? We are hosting a technical college and career fair on April 1
st
to show students opportunities outside of a traditional 4 year degree. If you are interested in participating in this event, please reach out to Mrs. Smith at
Linda.M.Smith@stjohns.k12.fl.us
.
Dual Enrollment:
PERT testing is offered at St. Johns River State. Students must contact SJR’s testing department to schedule an appointment. Test scores for Dual Enrollment must be complete by April 1
st
.
Seniors:
College Board is giving away scholarships for completing the steps for applying to college and financial aid. Click on the links below for more information.
Seniors can earn money from CollegeBoard for the following
:
- Complete the FAFSA: $1,000
- Now Open for Seniors Through February
- Students should complete the FAFSA® form to apply for financial aid. They must provide a screenshot of their FAFSA confirmation email if selected for the scholarship (undocumented and international students are exempt).
In order to apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a student AND a parent must first create an FSA ID. Students and parents can do that online here:
https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid
.
This is something that can be completed in Counselor Corner. Parents who have older students may have already completed this process previously. Once students and parents have their FSA ID, they can complete the FAFSA on-line here:
https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa
.
- Apply to Colleges: $1,000
- Now Open for Seniors Through February
- Students should apply to at least two colleges they want to attend and submit the names of the colleges to earn an entry for the scholarship. Students may earn one additional entry for every additional college application after their first two, up to a maximum of six total applications.
In addition to the College Board Scholarships, seniors that have not applied to Bright Futures should make sure to complete their application before the holiday break. Students who meet the criteria and who have applied for the scholarship prior to the end of the first semester can lock in the scholarship in January.
In order to apply for State Scholarship & Grant Programs (Bright Futures), a student must first
Create a Student Account/Profile
at the following link:
http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org/
. Click on State Grants, Scholarships & Applications. Click on
Create a Student Account.
Students will receive an email with their User ID and temporary password. After creating a
Profile
, students will have the option to continue directly to the FFAA.
The application typically takes 10 minutes or less to complete, so students are welcome to come to Counselor Corner and complete the application with their School Counselor or do it on their own from home. Students DO NOT need to have met the requirements prior to applying for the scholarship. While we encourage students to meet the requirements for the scholarship as soon as possible, students have until the June SAT/ACT test dates to continue to try and earn the required test scores. As a reminder, students need qualifying GPA, SAT or ACT, and Community Service Hours in order to earn the scholarship. Any student that meets those requirements and applies will earn the scholarship.
Please make sure you are checking the e-mail address that you provided to your Naviance account as we will start sending larger senior specific updates through Naviance. Returning students should have received their Naviance registration code last spring in order to set up their accounts. If you need that information again, you can get it from your School Counselor. Once you have registered, you can continue to access your account here:
https://student.naviance.com/allennease
The majority of students should have submitted their college applications at this time. As we enter notification season, please update your School Counselor and Naviance as you get news of your acceptances!
Juniors:
School Counselors visited Junior English classes before Thanksgiving. We worked with students to confirm that they are aware of all the classes that they need to graduate. We also worked on developing their college lists of potential schools and careers. Students received their Naviance codes so that they can log into their Naviance accounts here:
https://student.naviance.com/allennease
and start saving potential colleges and careers to their “Colleges I’m Thinking About” and “Careers I’m Thinking About” sections. Students are encouraged to start working on their resumes in Naviance as these will be required for their college letters of recommendation next year. Please ask your student to review the packet that they received. It includes their remaining credits for graduation, SAT/ACT test dates, Bright Futures information, and their checklist for college/career planning.
It is also time for Juniors to start taking the SAT and ACT. Your goal is to have a solid test score by the end of the school year so that you can start submitting college applications in the summer and fall of next year. You can register for the SAT at
www.collegeboard.org
and the ACT at
www.actstudent.org
. Students on free and reduced lunch can see Ms. Harden in guidance for 2 fee waivers for each test.
