This next week is the last week counselors will be meeting with students to select courses for next year. If your child brought their form back home for a signature, PLEASE ensure it is returned this week.

Attention JUNIOR Parents: Just FYI - the Florida Department of Education pays for EVERY junior to take the ACT during the school day. Our district will administer the ACT free of charge to JUNIORS on Tuesday, March 26th. We wanted to make you aware if you are planning to register your child to take the exam soon. More information will be shared early March.

NHS ASVAB Test – Thursday, March 7, 2024

The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP) will be administered on Thursday, March 7^th in the PAC at 9:15 AM.  There is no charge to take this test.

Seniors, if you need initial or midyear transcripts sent, you will need to turn in your gold envelope to your school counselor. If you never stopped in to CPOD to pick up your gold envelope after you submitted your gold envelope to your counselor, you need to come by CPOD and pick it up. You will need to use this process to get your midyear transcripts sent. The only time you do not need your gold envelope, is when you need final transcripts sent to the college/university you will be attending after high school graduation.

MANDATORY Graduation Rehearsal - Thursday, May 16th from 9am to 11am at UNF Arena.

Graduation - Tuesday, May 21st at 6pm at UNF - students will receive 7 graduation tickets.

Local Scholarships for Seniors

The Ponte Vedra Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will award a $500 scholarship at our meeting on May 7, 2024, to a deserving college-bound senior graduating from a St. Johns County high school in the spring of 2024. Students meeting the eligibility criteria are invited to apply.

Eligibility criteria consist of the following:

• Student is enrolled in one of the following high schools in St. Johns County, Florida: Bartram Trail High School, Creekside High School, Nease High School, or Ponte Vedra High School.
• Student exhibits good academic achievement and character.
• Student has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better (where A is equal to 4.0)      during the entire high school enrollment period.
• Student is a citizen of the United States.

Please note that our scholarship committee must receive the student’s application packet no later than March 31, 2024.

St. Augustine Elks Lodge Educational Trust Fund 2024 Scholarships

The applications in both .pdf and a Fillable Word format. Last year five $1000 Scholarships were awarded to Caroline Hamby, John Klatzkow, Cael Thompson and Celine Taylor from NHS.

This year there will be ten $1,000.00 scholarships available to qualifying seniors in St. Johns County. Applicants must attend or have attended a high school within St. Johns County, be a resident of St. Johns County, and have at least one parent that is a St. Johns County resident. Applications are due back no later than April 1, 2024.

Applicants are selected based on the overall excellence of the student, and include community service, extracurricular activities and financial need, as well as academic achievement. 

2024 PAF Chapter Student Scholarship Application

The PAF Chapter Student Scholarship is designed for high school athletes with intentions to

attend a 2-year or 4-year college/university. The 3,000.00 scholarship rewards high school

athletes for their non-athletic achievements and assist them in achieving their academic career

goals. Students are not required to compete in collegiate athletics to receive this scholarship.

Eligibility requirements:

Overall High School Grade Point Average of 2.0 or better;

2.Must be a high school senior;

3.Acceptance into a two-year or four-year college or university;

4.Nominated by high school coach;

5.Participated at the varsity level in athletics for at least one year;

6.Has not accepted a full scholarship award or grant (athletic or academic);

7.Is not the son or daughter of current or former NFL Player.

Current 10th & 11th graders it is time to apply for a 24-25 parking tag. PLEASE ensure that you read the 24-25 Parking Rules & Regulations BEFORE completing an application. PLEASE ensure you complete the correct application as I do not verify grade levels and move students from one list to another. 24-25 Seniors are given priority, so if a current junior completes the sophomore link you will not be receiving a parking tag, so pay attention.

Timeline:

Parking applications will be open through 11:59pm on Thursday, February 29th. If you don't have a car but there is a possibility that you might have a car for next year, PLEASE complete the application. I only hold a few parking tags for new seniors, so if all tags are sold you will be out of luck if you email next fall asking for a tag because you now have a car. The application states that you must have your license by Oct 11th. If you will have your license AFTER Oct 11th and know you will have access to a car, please apply so you are automatically placed on the wait list instead of sending an email when you obtain your license.

CURRENT Juniors (24-25 Seniors) will be notified via the Panther Press if they are receiving a tag. Basically, everyone who applies will receive a tag unless there are discipline concerns. Current Juniors (24-25 Seniors) will have until 11:59pm on Tuesday, April 30th to pay the $125 parking tag fee online. After the deadline, I will determine how many additional tags can be sold and hope to award current sophomores (24-25 Juniors) parking tags before school is out or very early June.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION!! 

Several of our students in our Nease Black Student Union club are planning and organizing to host a “Black History Month” celebration in our media center on Wednesday, Feb. 28^th from 12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m during Excel. We will allow 100 students to come in during that time to celebrate with us by picking up a wristband during the morning between 8:45 a.m. and noon. We invite our students to come to our celebration and sample delightful treats from around the U.S and many nations of African-American ancestry, participate in arts & crafts, listen to some wonderful music, and have some other fun activities/events showcasing this beautifully rich and diverse culture. We are hoping we can have some of you help us make this a FANTASTIC experience for our students!

How can you help? We’d love to have a variety of foods from the different nations for our students to simply taste. If you are willing and able to donate a dish or drink, please email me to let me know. Please understand, we are NOT asking anyone to cook for 100 students! If you are willing and able to send in foods/drinks, please plan on something for 10-15 people. Students will simply be having a very small sample of the various dishes. This is NOT a catered lunch for them. I have a “wish-list” of some of the foods the students would like to have, so please reach out to me for more details.

We’re also in need of a few volunteers to PLEASE come and help us with serving and setting everything up. If you are able to help us out, we’d love to have you. I’d like to have 10-15 volunteers. You would need to be a SJCSD approved volunteer and arrive to Nease by 11:45 a.m on the day of our event. If you are not an approved volunteer but would like to be one, please click on this link below to complete a district volunteer application:

La Fuerza, the Hispanic organization on campus, will be selling bracelets to benefit students in Latin America afford supplies for school. All proceeds will go directly to them. Bracelets are handmade and start at $5. Sale will start on February 5^th and go until February 16^th.

Lassen Veteran’s Nursing Home. I’ve created an entire station complete with cardstock, craft scissors, glue sticks, stickers, markers, glitter pens, etc! You can make a card here or you can make one at home and bring it in.

Skyler will be competing for the National Title of Miss Teen Volunteer America 2024 next month in Jackson, Tennessee. 

Her S.E.R.V.E. Initiative is "It's Kool to be Kind", an anti-bullying initiative through The Kindness Klub that she founded back in 3rd grade.

S.E.R.V.E. stands for Scholarship, Education, Responsibility, Volunteerism and Empowerment and each represent a principle of the Miss Volunteer America organization's mission.

If Your Student Wants to Drop an Academy for 2024-25

If your student indicated that they do NOT want to continue on in their Academy program via the Intent to Return Process that took place before winter break, an Academy Drop Form has been delivered to the student. If your student originally indicated that they wanted to continue on in an Academy when we did the Intent to Returns, but has now determined they would like to drop their Academy for 2024-25, please email [email protected] to request a drop form. The drop form must be completed by the student and parent and returned to Mrs. Combs in order to remove the next-level Academy course from the student’s schedule for 2024-25 and to release the student from their Academy for next year.

Midyear reports will soon be needed from certain requesting institutions. Please make sure you complete the log sheet and submit 2$ for each midyear report you need to be sent. There is at least a 2-week (14 working days) turnaround for the processing of the envelope. Please allow for this prior to submission.

CELEBRATE LITERACY WEEK!

During Celebrate Literacy Week – we sponsored a “Door Decorating Contest” with all our classes. They had to decorate their doors in the book jacket or theme or scene of a book and boy did they outdo themselves! Once all the doors were done, the faculty got to vote for their favorite doors and some of the votes were so close! There was a 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place prize and the prizes for each class that place were a choice of a Chick-Fil-A breakfast, a pizza lunch, or a “build your own” ice cream sundae party. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR WINNERS and to all who participated! Teachers and students – start planning your doors for next year!

Athletic Clearance

Prior to participating with a Nease High School athletic team, all students are required to complete the athletic clearance process.

Please keep in mind that the FHSAA requires all student athletes to view free NFHS video courses on concussions, heat illness, and sudden cardiac arrest (see instructions below). Signatures on the EL3 form indicate that your athlete has completed these three video courses. The FHSAA also requires that all student athletes have at least a 2.0 unweighted GPA to be eligible for participation.

Athletic Fee/Pay to Participate

The purpose of the Nease Athletic Fee is to help address the costs associated with operating a high school athletic department. Currently the St. Johns County School Board pays each coach’s coaching supplement, and all remaining costs are the responsibility of the athletic department and teams. The athletic fee helps cover the following expenses:

·        Game officials

·        Indoor and Outdoor Athletic Facility maintenance

·        Sports Medicine

·        Security

·        Athletic Leadership Council activities

·        Student-Athlete Letters and Awards

·        FHSAA membership dues and other fees

The 2023-24 fee will be as follows: $75 Per Sport Played

This fee must be paid prior to the student-athlete participating in his/her first contest. Nease Athletics appreciates your attention and compliance regarding payment of this fee. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Nease Athletic Department.
