From Mrs. Kunze
Happy Friday! Again, I want to thank you all for your patience this week.

The district "roll over" occurred last weekend, so now all of the incoming 9th graders are attached to Nease. I sent a text last Friday with the Panther Press link explaining Nease's safety measures for August, but the incoming 9th grader parents did not receive since they weren't attached to us. Please use the link below to read about our bell schedule for next year and our safety measures.

If your child is taking an academy course through option 2 and requires access to a high speed computer for specific software, below are the computer specifications. If your child would not have access to a high speed computer, please email Assistant Principal, Mrs. Mander at Abbey.Mander@stjohns.k12.fl.us

If you chose option 2 for your child, below are the general computer specs that would be needed for all courses except for computer-based academy courses.
For grades 9 th – 12 th:
  • G5 Celeron Processor or Intel i3/i5
  • 8 GB of RAM (or higher)
  • 64 GB HD
  • Integrated Webcam

ALL students need to complete a digital citizenship assessment based on our District’s AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) before the start of school. This is the link to the AUP: https://www-sms.stjohns.k12.fl.us/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Student-and-Visitor-AUP1.pdf
Please read it and have your child complete the Assessment here: https://surveys.stjohns.k12.fl.us/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=AUPNHS2020

If you haven’t done so; please discuss with your child, their intentions to take EOC’s this fall and complete the following forms: (You received an email earlier in the week.)

MESSAGE FROM GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT:

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Student schedules will be available for a SCHEDULE PREVIEW beginning Tuesday July 21 st at 8:00 am and ending Sunday, July 26 th at 12:00 am. Nease High School has decided to move the preview window back one week due to the most recent survey to parents about distance learning. Please note that HAC will be turned off before and after this window. Please use this opportunity to make sure that your son or daughter has been scheduled for all academic courses needed for the upcoming year.
When viewing schedules, please keep in mind the following:
  • Class periods and teachers may still change before the finalized release of schedules due to balancing of classes. However, student course placement will not change.
  • Newly hired teachers may be represented by a ZZ placeholder on your student’s schedule. These placeholders will include non-instructional Nease High School Employees.
  • Teacher names will be updated when schedules are permanently available in HAC.
  • Off campus St Johns River State College dual enrollment courses will be reflected on your NHS schedule using a host course “SJRSC OFF CAMPUS.”
If you wish to request to have your student’s schedule reviewed because you believe an error was made, a Scheduling Review Form MUST be submitted using this link: https://tinyurl.com/NHSrequestchange2021

**Please note that this form will not accept responses until Tuesday July 21st at 8:00 am and ending Sunday, July 26th at 12:00 am.

  • Schedules WILL NOT be reviewed or approved for:
  • Teacher Preference
  • Lunch period preference

SUMMER READING BINGO!
Now is a great time for students to read books of their choice and/or participate in literacy opportunities throughout the summer, earn some cool prizes, and avoid the “summer slide”. Statistics and extensive studies have been compiled over the years about the decline of learning gains due to summer break. Below are 2 graphics that show the best way to avoid the “Summer slide” and how reading just 20 minutes a day increases students scores on standardized tests!

Visit the Media Center web page for details.
