Family-Friendly One-Act Play: The Genuine Genie

Nease High School’s International Thespian will be competing at the district one-act festival on Saturday, November 18^th. In preparation for the event, students will perform the piece at Nease High School on Thursday, November 16 @ 6:30 PM. Perfect for the whole family, the half-hour show The Genuine Genie by Thomas Hischak tells the story of a young man named Ali Bob who sets out to seek his fortune only to have a run-in with a craft genie.

The cast included Jacob Santana as Ali Bob, Mackenzie Bradt as the Genie, Hannah Smith as the Old Woman, Faith Leatherman as the Jewelry Merchant, Rome Curtiss as the Rug Merchant, and Micah Vosburg as the Beggar. The ensemble/understudies include Amaya Mangus, Sarah Roney, and Kedren Ellis. Renn Dunn stage manages the production, with direction by Mr. Mark Robinson.

College Board Accommodations for SAT & AP Exams

Students with a disability may be eligible for testing accommodations through College Board for the PSAT, SAT and AP Exams. Your child’s IEP or 504 Plan does not guarantee approval of accommodations for these college entrance exams. The final decision is up to College Board.

To request accommodations for your student, the College Board’s “Consent Form for Accommodations Request” must be signed by both the student and parent and returned to school. Once the consent form is received, we will start the application process. Nease High School Theatre will conclude its first semester with a production of A Christmas Carol, based on the Charles Dickens’ holiday classic. Micah Vosburg will play the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who is haunted by three spirits on Christmas Eve. Joining Vosburg are Luke Porter as Bob Cratchit, Lily Downie as Mrs. Cratchit, Rome Curtiss as Jacob Marley/Old Joe, Ellie Mirgeaux as The Ghost of Christmas Past. Andrew Hajdini as The Ghost of Christmas Present, Parker Black as Nephew Fred, Marisa McNally as Belle, and Maya Kalush as Anna. The cast will also feature Kaylie Burnett, Jacob Santana, Annabelle Frederico, Carrie Hendricks, Jackson Fry, Abigail Moring, Hannah Smith, Robbyn Dykeman, Amanda Ferrand, Mackenzie Cole, Tristan Mirgeaux, Kedren Ellis, Isabella Keller, Faith Leatherman, Juliana Weldon, Mia Kasper, Sarah Roney, Ethan Nash, Ethan Murphy, Michelle DeMeritt, Kylie Nolan, Samantha Morgan, Slava Melnyk, Charlie Evans, Mia Garrett, Kallie Smith, Brooklyn Gorga, Franziska Kasten, Kaylee Ireland, and Decker Curtiss (as Tiny Tim).

Ava Everly will be designing scenic elements for the production, including an eight-foot puppet of The Ghost of Christmas Past. Everly will also operate the puppet with the help of Maggie Yan and Tu Ly Bui.

A Christmas Carol will be directed by Nease Theatre Director, Mr. Mark Robinson, with Olivia Hill serving as stage manager, Mia Kasper as assistant director, and senior Lily Downie as music director and assistant choreographer. Hospitality & Tourism Students Learn About the Tourism Industry In St. Augustine

This week our Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism students had the chance to learn the ins and outs of running a major tourism business in our Nation’s Oldest City. Old Town Trolley Tour’s General Manager, Dave Chatterton, invited the students to tour the Oldest Store Museum, where the kids learned about life in 1908 and how some of the shop items were used around town in St Augustine.

Then Mr. Chatterton and Museum and Productions Manager Heather Quinn spoke to the students about the Old Town Trolley company, which offers a variety of tours to travelers here in St. Augustine, and to visitors at historic destinations across the country. They spoke about dynamic pricing, returning to normal operations post-Covid, their hiring process, the benefits of working for Old Town Trolley, and discussed how their daily operations change during Nights of Lights. They fielded some great questions from the students and everyone found the experience rewarding. We thank Mr. Chatterton, and everyone at Old Town Trolley, for this awesome opportunity!

Stellar Academy of Engineering Students Compete at Project Innovation

Congratulations to Stellar Academy of Engineering Seniors Adan Montolio and Jack Wilcox, who were selected to represent Nease at the district’s Project Innovation competition. The students had the chance to present their original concept, W-PAC (Wearable Portable Air Conditioning) to a panel of judges at First Coast Technical Center on Tuesday. We are so proud of the work they produced and the engineering behind their idea.

All IB seniors received their college application “gold envelope.” There is at least a 2-week (14 working days) turnaround for the processing of the envelope. Please allow for this prior to submission.

Reminder: The FFAA (Bright Futures) Application is now open. The FAFSA is scheduled to open at some point in December. Please be mindful, that you must complete these applications in order to be evaluated for postsecondary financial aid eligibility.

Athletic Clearance

Prior to participating with a Nease High School athletic team, all students are required to complete the athletic clearance process.

Please keep in mind that the FHSAA requires all student athletes to view free NFHS video courses on concussions, heat illness, and sudden cardiac arrest (see instructions below). Signatures on the EL3 form indicate that your athlete has completed these three video courses. The FHSAA also requires that all student athletes have at least a 2.0 unweighted GPA to be eligible for participation.

Athletic Fee/Pay to Participate

The purpose of the Nease Athletic Fee is to help address the costs associated with operating a high school athletic department. Currently the St. Johns County School Board pays each coach’s coaching supplement, and all remaining costs are the responsibility of the athletic department and teams. The athletic fee helps cover the following expenses:

·        Athletic Leadership Council activities

We are so excited to announce that our three-day conference will be February 2nd-4th 2024! We are reaching out to invite your students in grades 9-12 to apply for our annual Young Leaders Conference. 

The Young Leaders Conference is a UF student-led event that guides students through a variety of workshops intended to enhance their leadership skills, while interacting with and experiencing the UF campus. Due to the large volume of registrants in the past few years we are transitioning to an application process. The Young Leaders Conference exists to educate and expand the minds of the leaders of tomorrow. In an effort to bring students who are truly passionate about developing their own leadership skills for the betterment of the world around them we are implementing an application.
