Report cards will be available on HAC at 4pm Tuesday, October 24th.

Academic warning letters are being emailed by guidance counselors throughout the next week. 

Students receiving these letters have received a D or F in one or more of their courses this first marking period. Please utilize this notification to discuss with your child what steps can be taken in the second marking period to improve so they can earn ½ credit for this semester. If you have any specific questions, please reach out to your guidance counselor. 

If your child is currently taking a virtual course, they MUST have the course completed by January 4th for the course grade to be calculated into their semester GPA. The cumulative GPA after 1st semester of senior year determines final class rank and used to issue graduation honor cords.

Picture re-takes are this Wednesday, October 25th in the auditorium. Students who were absent on picture day in September or who want a re-take need to ask a teacher, preferably an elective teacher, for a pass to the auditorium.

NHS ASVAB Test – Thursday, November 9^th, 2023

•  The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP) will be administered on Thursday, November 9^th in the PAC at 9:15 AM.  There is no charge to take this test.
• You must register to take the ASVAB Test through SignUpGenius, as there will be no other area to sign-up. Deadline to register for the test is Friday, November 3^rd.

Track-or-Treat– Don’t forget our annual Track-or-Treat is this Thursday, October 26, 5:30pm-8:00pm on the track! We will have over 40 stations set up by our clubs and teams. There will be games, activities, crafts, face painting, giveaways, goodies, and candy! Everyone from our community is invited! Don’t forget your costume and trick-or-treating bag. Please feel free to share with your neighborhood and school groups.

Link Crew is hosting a fundraiser to raise money for our program. On Halloween – students are invited to wear their favorite costume to school BUT MUST donate $5 to do so. All donations can be turned in to Mrs. Milian in the media center. Congratulations to the Nease Boys Cross Country team as they finished 1^st out of 61 teams at the New World Fall Spectacular. Their team results have led to wider recognition as they are currently ranked 4^th in the southeast. They look to continue their winning ways as the championship season approaches.

The Nease Girls Cross Country team faced a very competitive field finishing 12^th in the championship race at New World Fall Spectacular. This placed them ahead of 35 teams. The team was paced by Kendall Wampler followed by Shannon Fischer, Ella Harrison, Ella Harrison, Olivia Hipp, Kaitlyn Glidewell.  Both teams will be in action next week at the Speziale Inv. at Ponte Vedra High School.

Academy Students Take Part In Mini-Internships

While many students were sleeping in on the recent teacher planning day, 21 Engineering and Hospitality Academy students spent their morning taking part in mini-internships with local businesses, learning about their targeted industry in the real world.

Engineering students who visited Stellar headquarters had the chance to hear from engineers in 10 different engineering sectors, including civil, structural, process, refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, and architecture, all under one roof. Students also had the chance to go on a virtual 3D tour of a Stellar building project, and were even treated to lunch before they left for the day.

At Quick Tie Products, located near the Jacksonville Airport, students met with the Vice President of Engineering, Brett Dexter, and learned about the research and development process for the structural components they produce, followed by a tour their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

Students who visited the Fleet Readiness Center Southeast met with engineers who work on the F-5, T-6 Texan, T-44 Pegasus, and F-18 aircraft at NAS Jax. Students had the chance to get on the production floor with the aircraft and learn how engineers develop repairs and work with artisans to solve problems on the aircraft. Two students even got an impromptu tour of the materials lab on the base.

We also had a Hospitality Academy business partner offer an opportunity with Sawgrass Country Club. Hospitality students worked with the Director of Human Resources to learn about all the departments that work together to make the Sawgrass Country Club run. The students had a tour of the property and spent time in the Human Resources, Fitness, Membership, and Accounting departments, for an up-close look at the vast diversity in jobs in the hospitality industry.

We would like to thank Stellar Academy of Engineering Business Partners Briggs Kirby, Alexis Alexandris, and Ryan Dexter for organizing these events for our Engineering students, and to C.W. Cook, an Academy of Hospitality & Tourism Business Partner, for organizing our Hospitality internship. We are hoping to add Communications Academy internships to our next round of opportunities!

IB Seniors

All IB seniors received their college application “gold envelope.” There is at least a 2-week (14 working days) turnaround for the processing of the envelope. Please allow for this prior to submission.

Reminder: The FFAA (Bright Futures) Application is now open. The FAFSA is scheduled to open at some point in December. Click here for more information on changes to the FAFSA and the reason for the delay in release. Please be mindful, that you must complete these applications in order to be evaluated for postsecondary financial aid eligibility.

Juniors are working on selecting their extended essay topic for the upcoming mentor selection process. Ask them what they plan on writing on and what research they are interested in.

IB Sophomores

HOBY State Leadership Seminar Opportunity (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership) is available. Please read and discuss the post on Schoology with your parents if you are interested in this opportunity. The cost is 250$ to attend. Only 2 applicants will be chosen for this leadership experience. Tentative Seminar Dates are June 6-9, 2024 at Florida State University; Tallahassee, FL. To participate students will need to write an essay, "Describing the most rewarding and challenging aspects of being a leader in your school and community," and submit to Mrs. Kennedy by Tuesday, October 31st.

Athletic Clearance

Prior to participating with a Nease High School athletic team, all students are required to complete the athletic clearance process.

Please keep in mind that the FHSAA requires all student athletes to view free NFHS video courses on concussions, heat illness, and sudden cardiac arrest (see instructions below). Signatures on the EL3 form indicate that your athlete has completed these three video courses. The FHSAA also requires that all student athletes have at least a 2.0 unweighted GPA to be eligible for participation.

Athletic Fee/Pay to Participate

The purpose of the Nease Athletic Fee is to help address the costs associated with operating a high school athletic department. Currently the St. Johns County School Board pays each coach’s coaching supplement, and all remaining costs are the responsibility of the athletic department and teams. The athletic fee helps cover the following expenses:

·        Indoor and Outdoor Athletic Facility maintenance

·        Sports Medicine

·        Security

·        Athletic Leadership Council activities

·        Student-Athlete Letters and Awards

·        FHSAA membership dues and other fees

The 2023-24 fee will be as follows: $75 Per Sport Played
