SENIOR INFORMATION
Scholarship Resources
Searching for scholarships can be overwhelming for anyone. Good thing there are resources and tips out there. First, you want to explore the Financial Aid/Scholarship website on each college your child is applying to. They list internal scholarships to the college and scholarship resources. The second thing is to explore Naviance. On their dashboard they can search scholarship options. Third, they can use scholarship search engines. Remember: DO not to pay for a scholarship application. All legitimate scholarships will not charge a fee for your child to apply. Lastly, explore the Florida’s resource-Navigating your financial website to learn more: http://www.navigatingyourfinancialfuture.org/

Seniors, If you’re not in the Senior Schoology group you are missing important information and your opportunity to have a voice in choices made for your senior year! Only 356 of you have joined so far and less than 190 voted on your senior t-shirt! If you are Dual Enrollment, this is a GREAT way to stay connected! This group is for students only. Important GradBash Updates:
GradBash is a special ticketed event for seniors at Universal Studios. Seniors cannot use an annual pass for access to this event or drive themselves. Seniors will depart Nease at 1:30pm on 4/28/23 and return at approximately 5am on 4/29/23. All 300 GradBaah spots are reserved.
Spots were reserved with a non-refundable deposit of $100 on SchoolPay. We estimate a second non-refundable payment in the spring of $105, and it is possible (based on increased costs, especially fuel costs) that a 3rd payment may be necessary. Our hope is to keep the total cost at $205, which includes the special event ticket (access to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure from 4pm to 2am), charter bus transportation, and a $20 voucher that can be used at park restaurants or shops.
GradBash is sold out, but we do offer a waiting list if spaces open up or a student who planned to go would like to sell their ticket. If we reach you on the waiting list, a senior sponsor will contact you with information on making a deposit, paying in full, or completing a transfer with another senior. You will have a limited amount of time to respond before we remove you from the waiting list and go to the next person on the list. You MUST have paid your senior dues to keep your spot in line on the waiting list.
To Join the Waiting List: https://forms.office.com/r/iY61hj8VwS
Transcript Requests:
Seniors requesting transcripts for college applications must use Naviance and must follow the Gold Envelope procedures. Seniors have received their Gold Envelopes and have received instructions on how to begin this process. If they are missing their Gold Envelope, they must meet with their assigned counselor. Requesting and paying for transcripts on school pay is one of the steps on the checklist in the Gold Envelope. Once the checklist is completed, the senior must drop off the Gold Envelope to their assigned Counselor to have their transcripts sent. It can take up to 14 days for this process once the counselor gets the gold envelope due to several other academic reports are required to be submitted with the transcript. After the 14 days, the Senior needs to circle back around to the counselor and pick up the Gold Envelope in CPOD.
Senior Dues
Every year senior dues are collected to pay for everything related to graduation – facility rental, security, flower, video board, sound, streaming, parking, diplomas, programs, etc. The fee is $65 and can be paid online now. Senior dues must already be paid for access to the GradBash deposit link – if you are on the waiting list, but haven’t paid senior dues you will be removed from the waiting list and will need to rejoin at the bottom of the list. Seniors who pay their senior dues by October by Friday, October 14th will receive a senior t-shirt. https://www.schoolpay.com/pay/for/Class-of-2023-Senior-Class-Dues-/ScBfZbi

FREE AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING!
We’ve had FANTASTIC attendance in after school tutoring and we want to keep reminding our families of this FREE service offered by our juniors and seniors of National Honor Society. Students that need help or support in any of their classes can stay after school on any Tuesday and/or Thursday from 4-5 p.m. OR during Excel time on Wednesdays where students can work with an NHS member. No appointment or reservation is needed. Students can also request tutoring in the mornings or during lunches, however, an appointment for these times must be made with Mrs. Milian. ALL our students have plenty of opportunities to get some extra help when they need it! For more info, please see me in the media center.

Take a trip back to the 1950s! with the thespians at Nease High School! HURRICANE IAN RELIEF COLLECTION!
To help raise money for the relief efforts in Ft. Myers/Naples and the surrounding area after Hurricane Ian decimated that part of our state, our chapter of National Honor Society is raising money for the cause. Mrs. Kunze has allowed students and faculty to wear costumes to school on Halloween, Oct. 31st ONLY with a minimum donation of $5. 100% of the funds will go directly to the American Red Cross. Students can make their donations between now and Friday, Oct. 28th and bring money to me in the media center. We would like to encourage ALL our students to help out with this fundraiser even if they choose not to wear a costume. With our student population we have the potential to raise a great deal of relief funds if everyone just made a $5 donation. We have also tied a 1st period contest to this fundraiser. The 1st period that raises the most money will win a Chick-Fil-A breakfast (and other treats) in the media center with me. I will be keeping a spreadsheet with all the donations and 1st period classes. THANK YOU for all your support with this and showing our great state what AMAZING & COMPASSIONATE students and families we have at Nease.

This Wednesday, Oct. 26th in our media center! PLEASE tell me which beautiful Hispanic country you hail from! We would still LOVE parent support and help with our celebration. We will have a showcase of foods, music, flags, decorations, AND a Zumba instructor will be doing an expo with the kids! If you are able to help us out in some way, PLEASE reach out to me as soon as possible so that I can count on you!! Remember – if you would like to volunteer, you MUST be an approved SJCSD volunteer. TOYS FOR TOTS!
Once again our school is competing against all the other high schools in the Toys for Tots collection drive to provide a Christmas for so many children who might not have a great Christmas otherwise. Students are being asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy to make a little girl’s or boy’s Christmas special. Unfortunately, the state and district have issued very strict guidelines regarding service hours for donations and students are NOT able to earn service hours for Bright Futures for making donations. However, some Nease service clubs might decide to award service hours for “in-club” hours and that is completely up to each club sponsor. Please remember it’s important to remember that this is a season of giving and there are many children and families in North Florida that will benefit from this very valuable toy drive. We will have donation stations set up in the media center, front office, and Guidance. Last year, Nease completely blew all the other high schools out of the water with the MOST donations and we’d like to keep that reputation! Please make sure your student’s full name, student number, and guidance counselor is attached to the bag. If you have additional questions please contact Mrs. Milian in the media center. Thank you for helping us with this incredibly important act of kindness and generosity. ALL DONATIONS ARE DUE BY MONDAY, NOV. 28TH THE LATEST!

Nease hosted it’s first Day Shadow Internship event on the teacher planning day. Read about it in the October edition of the Academy Newsletter.
504/IEP Accommodations for Industry Certification Exams
The Nease Academy course your student is enrolled in may offer an industry certification exam. Your student’s teacher will inform the class if they will be taking an industry certification exam this year. Industry certifications are excellent resume boosters for future college and career endeavors and earn students a Merit designation on their diploma.
As we are a certified testing center, the certification exams administered at Nease High School are proctored through Certiport, an independent testing platform. As a student with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504, your son or daughter may apply for accommodations through Certiport. Because it is an outside testing company, like ACT or SAT, accommodations, such as extended time, must be applied for and implemented to the individual student’s testing platform by Certiport. The school cannot request these services, the student and their legal guardian (if student is under 18) must submit the request directly to Certiport. Accommodations are granted by Certiport annually, so even if your student was granted accommodations for testing in the 2021-2022 school year, the application must be submitted again for the 2022-2023 school year to ensure that accommodations are provided at the time your student tests.
Certiport has an online accommodations application process. The process is detailed on their website at: https://certiport.pearsonvue.com/Educator-resources/Exam-policies/Accommodations.aspx
In order to have your request for accommodations considered by Certiport, a parent/guardian must submit a completed application online, along with supporting documentation aligned to Certiport requirements. Certiport will notify you directly if your student is approved for accommodations. If approved, please inform your student’s Academy teacher so that we are aware when planning for test administration. It can take several weeks to hear back from Certiport as to whether the request is approved or if they need additional documentation, so the earlier you start the process, the better.
Feel free to reach out to me or to your child’s teacher know if you have any questions.
If you have any questions about the Communications Academy, Stellar Academy of Engineering, or Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, reach out to Academy Coordinator Jaime Combs, at Jaime.combs@stjohns.k12.fl.us

Bright Futures Scholarship Update
- Students will be evaluated for Bright Futures eligibility based on paid work hours or volunteer service hours
- These hours will be listed in separate categories on the transcript
- Hours cannot be combined for eligibility determination
- Students must have either 100 paid work hours for all levels of the Bright Futures scholarship or 100 (Academic), 75 (Medallion) or 30 (Gold Seal)
- It won’t hurt students or give them a special advantage to have hours in both categories
- Test score and Bright Futures GPA requirements remain unchanged.

COFFEE STATION DONATIONS!
THANK YOU SO MUCH to all our families that have donated so many supplies to keep our student coffee station running! The students absolutely love this little FREE perk we offer in our media center. We could still use some of the following items if you are willing and able to help donate so we can keep this going for our students.
· 10 oz. coffee cups
· Hot chocolate packets
· Tea bags (for our tea drinkers 😊 )
· Creamer (individual packs or powdered. No refrigerated creamers please)
· Sugar (individual small packets)
Thank you so much for anything you can help out with so we can continue this little “perk” for our students.
SENIORS!! Get your “Panther Café Senior Tile”! This is your chance to IMMORTALIZE yourself in our library!
ALL seniors have the opportunity to take home one of our café area ceiling tiles, paint and personalize it, then have it placed back into our ceiling for a donation of $25. The money raised from this fundraiser will be used to purchase new computers for our media center and at the same time have our seniors immortalized in our café as these will never be repainted! Please contact me in the media center for more information.
