Sean started at Nease in March 2022 from Lockheed Martin. Sean teaches Environmental Science and coaches the girls and boys weightlfiting teams.

Please read the PSAT information below. We will NOT accept an online early dismissal for Oct 11th. Students need to pick-up the early release form from the main office or print from the link below.

PSAT Date is Wednesday, Oct 11th. Since the exam is digital this year, we initially planned for 9th graders to test on planning day, Monday, October 16th. Since registration has closed, we have determined that we have enough computers to test ALL of 10th and the 9th & 11th who registered on Wednesday, October 11th. To provide the best testing environment for students and to have enough teachers to administer the exams, students not testing have the option to take a digital learning day at home. All students will be given an assignment from their teacher that will be submitted. Students not taking the PSAT who choose to attend school, will sit in the cafeteria and use a laptop to complete online assignments.

If you would like your child to leave after testing at 12:45pm on October 11th, an early release form MUST be signed and submitted on Oct 11th for your child to leave campus. You can print the form or have your child pick up a form from the main office. No exceptions will be made.

Our annual Track or Treat is on October 26th from 5:30 – 8:00pm on the Nease track!

Our clubs and teams will have tables set up with activities, candy, treats, and prizes for young kids to enjoy. It is free admission. Don’t forget your costume and trick-or-treat bag! Juniors and Seniors can register for college visits through Naviance. A list of all available visits is available in Naviance. Students are allowed 5 visits per year. All visits will receive a pass in the first/second period. This pass should be shown to the teacher PRIOR to the visit. Students should NOT miss summative assessments to attend a college visit. Visits will take place in the media center, unless otherwise indicated.

Nease Homecoming Dance 2023 “A Night in Greece” will be Saturday October 14, 2023 from 7:00-10:30pm. The dance will take place outdoors in the school courtyards. Tickets will be $25 for Nease students and $30 for guests.

Student tickets are on sale now and will close on Thursday October 12. All student ticket purchases must be made through Go Fan using this link: STUDENT TICKET LINK . Student will present their Go Fan ticket and school ID to enter the dance. Please pay all debts and fines before purchasing ticket.

Guest and Homeschool Tickets:

1. All guest, virtual, and homeschool students must complete a guest form to purchase ticket.
2. Forms available in front office, D-27, or by clicking here Guest Form
3. Guest form must be filled out and turned in to Coach Case in order to receive access to guest ticket link. Coach Case will accept guest forms before school (8:45am – 9:15am) during Excel (A or B) or after school (3:50pm – 4:15pm, Wednesdays 2:50 – 3:15pm) in her classroom (D-27).
4. Please make sure to bring completed guest form and printed copy of the guest’s ID. They will show an ID to match the printed one along with their ticket to get in the dance.
5. Guest tickets are $30, and the link to access guest tickets will be shared after the form is complete. You may also bring a debit or credit card to purchase the ticket with Coach Case when you bring the form.

If you are interested in applying for the National Technical Honor Society, we will have a meeting on Monday, October 9th, at 9am in Panther Hall, Room 138.

NTHS is open to Nease Academy Juniors and Seniors with an overall, unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher and a GPA of 3.5 or higher in your Academy classes.

Please see Mrs. Amato (Panther Hall 138) or Mrs. Soto (D-002) for a club permission slip that MUST be completed to attend the meeting.

National English Honor Society

Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Lopez are excited to reestablish a chapter of the National English Honor Society at Nease. Applications are available from Mrs. Lewis in B102 before school or during EXCEL. Application deadline is October 13, 2023.

What is NEHS? It is an organization for those with exceptional ability and interest in such areas as literary analysis, media studies, composition, linguistic study, and creative writing, and who meet the requirements of membership.

Scholarships and contests are available through NEHS. The organization also focuses on quarterly projects and literary discussions.

How do I know if I am eligible?

• You must currently be a junior or a senior. 
• You must have an overall cumulative. 3.0 GPA.
• You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA in all English courses. (You must have received above a B in all secondary English classes and in your current English course.)
• You must currently be enrolled in an Honors/AP/IB/Dual-Enrollment English class.)

Are there dues? Each student pays a one-time induction fee of $15.00, which covers national registration and a membership certificate, and which makes the member eligible for full Society benefits. Dues will be collected at a later date after acceptance letters are distributed.

The St. Johns County Education Foundation d/b/a Investing in Kids (INK!) is once again hosting our annual Jail Break 5K – starting at the Old Jail in downtown St. Augustine and finishing at Vilano Beach. We’d love to have your students assist INK! with our Jail Break 5K on Saturday, October 21^st AND earn service hours for their time. We will need groups for cheering runners and handing water to runners along the race course. All student volunteers will receive a letter documenting their volunteer hours.

You will see a list of cheer and water stations we need volunteers to sign-up for. If you click on the yellow volunteer button for a station, it will open a window to register for that station. If anyone has problems registering on the site, I can always add them manually. I just need a list of names that you want me to register. I’d love to have volunteers registered or your list of names by October 6^th.

I do ask that volunteers register (in pairs, etc.) at different stations. We’d like to have a few volunteers at each station first, before filling up a single station.

Volunteers will need to check in at volunteer registration at 6:45 a.m. at The Old Jail, 167 San Marco Avenue, St. Augustine, FL 32084 (I know it is early, but they will be finished by 9:30/10:00). At 7:00 a.m., they will be shuttled from the Old Jail to their station location along the race course. A shuttle will return them to The Old Jail after the race for post-race festivities. Student volunteers in need of service hours will go home with a documentation letter at the end of their volunteer time on race

Tutoring: The National Honor Society hosts afterschool tutoring on Wednesdays from 3pm-4pm in A107. If your student needs help in math, science, social studies, foreign language, or English, please use the link below to sign up for a tutor!

Another successful week for Nease’s NJROTC. Leading the charge was Master Chief Spears, as he was selected as Nease’s Teacher of the Year as well as receiving a Distinguished Citizen Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Our Orienteering team placed 3^rd in Brunswick and qualified to compete at Regionals. Our Air Rifle “A” Team qualified for Regionals in their recent air rifle meet with Gabriel Mitchell placing 1^st, Amber Fields 2^nd, and Chloe Westerlind in 3^rd overall in the competition. 

Boys Golf

Boys Golf finished 3rd of 8 teams at The Lagoon Challenge Monday at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Junior Nick Adamonis led the team with a 72.

Boys Golf beat Bartram Trail Tuesday in a head-to-head 9 hole match at San Jose CC. Senior Cooper Diaz led the team with an even par 36.

Cross Country

On September 30, the Nease boys' and girls' cross country teams competed in the FSU Invitational & Pre-State Meet in Tallahassee.

The boys team finished 3^rd overall in the elite race only falling behind 2 nationally respected programs and beating over 100+ teams.  Matt Ryan finished 3^rd overall individually in a time of 15:00 followed by Finn Thomas, Sai Jayaraman, Wyatt Pittman and Nate Corkran. Freshman Charlie Carlson and Gideon Churchill put in outstanding efforts for freshman. The boys look to continue operating at a high level in practice and at meets. 

The Nease girls placed second out of thirty-two teams in the select meet. Junior Kendall Wampler led the Nease girls and placed 19th of 257 runners with a time of 20:16. Junior Shannon Fischer was close behind with a personal best of 20:20. Senior Ella Harrison ran a season best time of 20:59 to earn her the third place spot on the team. Finishing in fourth place, junior Olivia Hipp ran a 21:59, and Katie Glidewell, junior, secured the fifth spot on the team, running a new PR of 22:16. Additionally, freshman Ava Reynolds led the Nease JV team running a new personal best time of 23:48.

Mini-Internship Opportunities for Academy of Hospitality & Tourism Students on October 16^th

On the teacher planning day (October 16^th) two Academy partners are offering mini-internship opportunities to our Sophomore and Junior Academy students:



1. The Sawgrass Country Club, in Ponte Vedra Beach, is offering 6 Academy of Hospitality & Tourism students the chance to spend the morning in a mini-internship, learning about different departments and getting a preview of what a paid summer internship might look like at the club. Students will meet at the golf club at 10034 Golf Club Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach, 32082 at 9 am on Monday, October 16th, and spend 9 am to noon completing the mini-internship. Students must wear business casual clothing and shoes that are comfortable to walk around in. This offer is for Sophomores and Juniors and can include up to 6 students.  Students will rotate between four different departments at Sawgrass Country Club and have the chance to work with hospitality professionals. Must sign up by Friday, October 6th. Once sign-ups are confirmed, students and their parents will complete a permission form. That signed form must be returned to Mrs. Amato no later than Thursday, October 12th.  

2. The Treasury Venues Event Planning: one Sophomore or Junior Academy student will spend the morning with the event planning professionals with The Treasury Venues Collection. The student will meet at their office at 24 Cathedral Place, Suite 111, St. Augustine 32084. The student will spend 9 am to noon learning about this event planning business in the Nation's oldest city. The intern must wear business casual attire and shoes they can comfortably walk around in. Once the sign-up is confirmed, students and their parents will complete a permission form. That signed form must be returned to Mrs. Amato no later than Thursday, October 12th.

Mrs. Kennedy has visited TOK this week to register students for Spring IB examinations. AP and IB exam conflict forms have been provided to the AP Coordinator, Ms. Newman, so she can verify alternate exams and location for these exams.

Seniors were given their gold envelopes to begin their college application process with Nease. Please see the contents of the envelope so you are aware of how to request transcripts, secure letters of recommendations and get secondary school reports completed by Mrs. Kennedy. More information is located in the guidance section of this Panther Press.

Lots of information is being posted on the Nease IB Schoology Page. All IB students have been placed in the group and provided the group code to join during the meetings mentioned above. Please ask your student what has been posted lately.

Thank you to those that have joined our IB Booster Club.  They are a non-profit charitable organization run by a volunteer board of parents. All parents with students in the IB program are encouraged to join and participate in the IB Booster events. Athletic Clearance

Prior to participating with a Nease High School athletic team, all students are required to complete the athletic clearance process.

Please keep in mind that the FHSAA requires all student athletes to view free NFHS video courses on concussions, heat illness, and sudden cardiac arrest (see instructions below). Signatures on the EL3 form indicate that your athlete has completed these three video courses. The FHSAA also requires that all student athletes have at least a 2.0 unweighted GPA to be eligible for participation.

Athletic Fee/Pay to Participate

The purpose of the Nease Athletic Fee is to help address the costs associated with operating a high school athletic department. Currently the St. Johns County School Board pays each coach’s coaching supplement, and all remaining costs are the responsibility of the athletic department and teams. The athletic fee helps cover the following expenses:

·        Game officials

·        Indoor and Outdoor Athletic Facility maintenance

·        Sports Medicine

·        Security

·        Athletic Leadership Council activities

·        Student-Athlete Letters and Awards

·        FHSAA membership dues and other fees

The 2023-24 fee will be as follows: $75 Per Sport Played

This fee must be paid prior to the student-athlete participating in his/her first contest. Nease Athletics appreciates your attention and compliance regarding payment of this fee. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Nease Athletic Department.

Boys Soccer will have tryouts on October 17, 18, 19 4:00pm-5:30pm. Players must have athletic clearance before they are allowed to tryout. Practice for both Varsity and JV will begin October 23.
