Parent Drop-Off and Pick-Up Loop
To keep the parent loop moving...
  • PLEASE pull all the way forward in the loop.
  • PLEASE have your child exit the vehicle as quickly as possible.
  • PLEASE use the left lane to go around sitting cars and PLEASE use your turn signal to indicate to others what you are doing.
  • PLEASE do not use your cell phone in the loop.
  • PLEASE park in the visitor lot to change seats, if you are allowing your child to drive. Your child can then use the cross walk instead of dropping him in the loop.

Behavior Expectations for 20-21
Students watched a behavior expectation presentation on Wednesday. Please take a few minutes to watch and talk to your child about our expectations.

Dress Code & Tardies
We will start enforcing dress code and giving tardies on Tuesday, September 8th. Expectations are included in the Behavior Expectations Presentation.

Textbooks & IDs
All students went to the Media Center on Thursday or Friday with their English teacher to check-out textbooks and take a picture for their ID if they didn't have an ID printed. Students still in need of a textbook need to see Mrs. Milian before school, during lunch or after school. If students lose their ID, they can have a replacement made in the Media Center for $5. Students are REQUIRED to have their ID on them at all times.

Lockers were sold during all 4 lunches Thursday and today. If a student still needs a locker or is having issues with their locker, they need to see Mrs. Cioffi in C-pod. She had an outside door next to the green bench facing the student parking lot.

Panther Plaza
The owner of Panther Plaza has contacted the Sheriff's Office complaining about parents dropping off and picking up and students parking in the plaza. PLEASE use the parent loop to drop-off and pick-up your child. Drivers please be aware that Panther Plaza towed vehicles last year and have stated they will tow again to keep students from parking in their lot.
Distance Learners
Students who are participating in the distrance learning option must...
  • Check Schoology updates for each course daily.
  • Participate in live conferences each period.
  • Have access to a computer with a working camera and microphone.
  • Have access to a printer.

Cameras need to be turned on when directed by the teacher to do so. Some students are logging in and since their camera is off are walking away from their computer. The teacher knows this when they ask the distance learner a question and there is no response. Students must participate in whatever is planned by the teacher that day. Teachers have been asked to email home for parent support and if the issue continues, the student will be referred to a dean.

If you or your student is having struggles with Schoology, please see below:
Schoology troubleshooting 101:
  • Students should use Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to log in and login through our school website. Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, and Safari have ALL had issues so they should NOT use these browsers. If they do not have Chrome or Firefox, they can do a Google search for it and download it to their device. (School laptops that were signed out already have it on there). (hint: for those less tech savvy 😊 – a browser is the software we all use to go on the internet and it’s free to download to any device. Google is not a browser – it’s a search engine just like Bing, Yahoo, etc.)
  • Schoology works BEST on a laptop/computer. Smartphone access is somewhat limited, but can be used.
  • Conferences – if your teacher sets up a conference using Microsoft Teams – your student MUST join the conference as a guest. HE/SHE SHOULD NOT LOGIN WITH THEIR USERNAME/PASSWORD. This will block them from being able to join the conference.
  • If all else fails, restart your computer. You’d be amazed how this helps!
  • If you have tried all these steps with your students and they are still having issues, have them email me directly at carolyn.milian@stjohns.k12.fl.us
Please be patient with us as the volume of emails and phone calls for Schoology and other technical issues have been unprecedented and we are trying to address them in as timely a manner as possible.

You may come to school Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to avoid large crowds of students on campus. You will need a printout of your schedule and come to the media center to gather any textbooks/workbooks you may need. However, if you have any fines, you will not be able to receive any materials until these have been paid or reconciled.

For distance learners, AP and IB summative assessments will be held after school from 4:30-5:30. These will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, unless indicated otherwise by the teacher. More information to follow in the upcoming weeks.

Our District Curriculum Office created a video to help explain what distance learning will look like for our students this year. https://youtu.be/BdJvvGtyl-c

Expectations for Distance Learners are below. This page can be printed here

Seniors will be bringing home a “gold envelope” that they will need to keep throughout the school year as they work on their applications and scholarships. Distance learners will be able to view the presentation during their English Schoology conference. The “Gold Envelope” materials will be available on their counselor’s Schoology page. They are also welcome to pick up an actual gold envelope from their school counselors office. Students who do not have an English class will be able to view the presented information on their counselors Schoology page and can also stop by to pick up a gold envelope and ask any follow up questions. Please use Calendly to schedule an appointment or visit us during our walk-in time in counselor corner.
Testing Information
Jacqui Ashcroft, Testing Coordinator

It is time to register your 9th or 11th grader for the PSAT. The FL Department of Education pays for every 10th grader to take the exam, so there is no need to register them as a test will be ordered for every 10th grader. The PSAT is a practice SAT. The score report provides detailed information that can be used to prep for the SAT. We only recommend 9th graders enrolled in Geometry Honors or higher to take the exam in 9th grade. We encourage ALL 11th graders to take the exam, since scores are used for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT will be administered during the school day on Wednesday, October 14th and the cost is $21.

Media Center News
Carolyn Milian – School Librarian Media Specialist
Lorna Patterson – Media Clerk
Allie Haddix – Media Clerk

Are you a VORACIOUS reader and LOVE to disappear into other worlds in your mind? Then you need to join our “Panthers Read/FTR” book club this year. We will be hosting their first meeting of the school year on Thursday, Sept. 17th, from 4-5 p.m.after school in the media center. Any student interested in participating in our book club, please come to this first meeting. We’ll have snacks and drinks and start discussing many of our favorite books, the Florida Teens Read for this year, and the district “Battle of the Books” in January. And food for thought – our Nease Panthers won the district battle last year and brought home the trophy in January. AND WE WANT TO KEEP IT!! So, let’s do this!
·        Brick & Mortar students - If you still have textbooks and/or library fines to pay or return, you still have time! Please return/pay for these items next week or they WILL impact your opportunities to participate in school events throughout the year. Seniors, fines will remain on your accounts and will affect end of year participation activities.

The media center will be OPEN for student access beginning on Tuesday. Students MUST wear a mask to be in the media center. This is to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff in the media center. Any student not wearing a mask,or refusing to wear one will be asked to leave. Students are also able to come to the media center for their lunch session with the following restrictions:
  1. They MUST have a MC Lunch pass each day. We begin to hand them out at 8:45 a.m. and only allow 50 passes per lunch period each day. Once passes are all gone, no more students will be able to come to the Media center for lunch. Lunch passes are different colors every day and date stamped.
  2. Students who have a MC Lunch pass, MUST go to the cafeteria FIRST to buy their lunch then come to the media center.
  3. Students can only eat on the tile floor in the café section. As soon as they are done eating, they are being asked to move onto the media center floor to allow other students who still need to eat. And due to current environment and restrictions, we will be strictly monitoring the number of students gathering in media center before school, during lunch, and after school in an effort to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing and group limitations.

Students can start checking out library books on Tuesday! Normally, I allow students to check out up to 5 books, but due to CDC guidelines and the need to “quarantine” books for 24 hours upon return, until further notice, I will be limiting 2 books per student per check out. Once things get back to normal, we’ll be able to check out 5. For our Distance Learners, you can check our online card catalog by clicking on this link: Destiny

Look for the book(s) you’d like to check out, email me at carolyn.milian@stjohns.k12.fl.us and I can pull them and leave them up at the front office for pick up at your convenience. Please keep in mind, library books are due 2 weeks from the the check out date and can be renewed. IMPORTANT! If you are checking out any of the 2020-21 Florida Teen Reads titles, they MUST be returned in 2 weeks due to the popularity of those books, and there are no renewals for these specific titles. Check out my Florida Teen Reads page by clicking on the link above and find out about some exceptional young adult literature and how YOU can earn some great prizes this year by reading them!

Finally, parents and students – this year will prove to be challenge for all of us together, but together we can all support each other and make sure that our students have the BEST opportunities for success and growth. If I can offer my support and guidance in any way, shape, or form, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email, or directly at 547-8367. Please check out my media center web page for additional information and resources that will help your student with this school year and beyond.

Student Life
National Honor Society
Adviser: Carolyn Milian, School Librarian Media Specialist

I have received many emails inquiring about National Honor Society for this school year and the selection of new candidates. Please understand that with the late start, and all the “back to school” tasks that have taken place, selections and inductions will be a bit later. I hope to start sending out invitations to eligible students to attend a “virtual” informational meeting by mid-September. In the meantime, here are the requirements for students to be considered as candidates for the Nease chapter of National Honor Society:

Eligibility for National Honor Society:
o  NHS is open only to Juniors and Seniors
o  3.80 SHARP WEIGHTED GPA (no rounding)
o  Juniors – minimum of 40 documented service hours documented by end of August of Junior year. Seniors – minimum of 50
o  Enrolled in at least 2 Honors, AP, or DE courses (or a combo of any of these)
o  Completion of “NHS Resume/Selection” form

·        Eligible Juniors and Seniors who have the required GPA at the start of the school year, will receive an invitation for an “Informational Meeting” in September to discuss the requirements and expectations of all members in National Honor Society. At that point they will receive a “Selection/Resume” packet that must be completed and submitted by deadline date.

·        Eligibility does not guarantee admission. Other factors that will determine candidacy are leadership, school involvement in clubs, events, and activities, outside leadership and club involvement (ie: Scouts, church, community groups, work, etc.). The Faculty Council (6 anonymous faculty members) review all the resumes and make the final decisions regarding invitation to become a member or does not meet needed requirements. Juniors that did not meet requirements have the opportunity to become eligible at the start of Senior year. All confirmed candidates will be inducted into the club in a “virtual” ceremony that will take place sometime in October. Confirmation letters will be sent out during the last week of September.

·        Parents can contact Mrs. Milian for further information or check club webpage
