Teacher Appreciation Lunch - HELP NEEDED!
In honor of teacher appreciation week from May 7-11 2018, Nease PTSO and the IB Boosters are partnering to create an exciting week for our hard-working teachers and staff! On Thursday, May 10, we will be hosting an international luncheon "Texas to Thailand in Thirty Minutes". We would love it if all Nease parents pitched in to help represent our diverse and wonderful student body. Please help us fill the slots in the sign-up below. If you are unable to drop your dish off at 11.30am, we will be happy to collect it from you in the parent pick-up loop between 8.15-9.15am if required. Thank you!

The PTSO would like to encourage you and your child to send in a compliment written on a notecard or paper to the front desk by Wednesday, May 9th (It can say compliment on it so it gets to the right place). We will hang them around the room for the teacher lunch. They can be one sentence long or a whole paragraph. Notes can be general or about a specific teacher. It is completely up to you.

The lists were posted today for parking passes. If you have a question, you can email me at Lisa.Kunze@stjohns.k12.fl.us

The Physical Education Department is in need of baseball or softball gloves. If you have any old gloves around your house you would like to donate to the PE Department, please have your child bring them into Coach Reyes in the gym or drop them off in the main office. Thank you in advance for your support!

IB News
ATTENTION SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS!

IB Senior Banquet
SAVE THE DATE!   The IB Banquet will be held right after graduation rehearsal on Friday, May 18th from 1:00-3:30 pm at the Palencia Clubhouse. Cost for parents and family is $30 per person, students are FREE. An optional pool party will follow. Stay tuned for more details!

IB Graduation Stoles
All IB students wear IB stoles at graduation. The cost is FREE for IB Booster Club members and $25 for all others. You can still join the IB Booster Club for $35, which would cover the cost of the stole and provide a little extra to help the IB program. The IB Booster Club has done many things for our seniors over the years, and they would greatly appreciate your support. Checks in the amount of $25 or $35, depending on if you are joining the Booster Club, should be made payable to the Nease IB Booster Club and dropped off with Mrs. Kennedy in an envelope addressed to the Booster Club. Checks or cash only. We cannot accept credit cards at this point in time.

ALL IB PARENTS & STUDENTS

Teacher Appreciation Week
We will be celebrating our teachers and all they do for our children, from May 7-11, 2018, during National Teacher Appreciation Week! We ask for your help in giving back to our wonderful educators who pour so much of their time and effort into working with our kids.
On Tuesday, May 8th, the IB Booster Club will be hosting a breakfast and on Thursday, May 10th we will be hosting a lunch featuring food from all over the world. We would love it if you would share a dish typical to your nationality or something you excel in making, for lunch. We have such a wonderful, diverse group of students at Nease and we want to celebrate that and share it with our teachers. The Signup genius is located at the top of the Panther Press. Please help us fill it!

Auction for Parking Spots
Great news The IB Booster Club has been given the opportunity to auction off two parking spaces for next year. The spaces are in the portion of the parking lot closer to the school where the old car rider line was last year. A highly desirable location! No sophomores, and possibly not every junior, will get a parking space next year due to the ever expanding student population. The auction will take place starting on May 5th, after juniors learn if they have a parking space through the school's process.

The auction will be open to IB Booster Club members ONLY. If you have not joined the Booster Club and wish to so that you can participate in the auction, please send in cash or checks made payable to the Nease IB Booster Club, together with your student's name and your email address and phone number.  THE COST TO JOIN IS $35 AND WILL NOT CARRY OVER TO NEXT YEAR. NO ONLINE MEMBERSHIPS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  Please drop off with Mrs. Kennedy.

T-Shirt Design Contest Winner
  • Congratulations to Sarah DosSantos for her 2018-2019 t-shirt design submission. It is awesome! An email containing the design was sent to all students. T-shirts will be available to purchase at summer orientation
Academy News
Academy SENIORS: If you pre-ordered an Academy graduation cord, they have arrived! You can pick yours up for $8 cash (exact change), or a check made out to Nease, from Mrs. Combs between any period at the front gate of the school on Monday, May 7th.

For the latest Nease Academy News, read the latest edition of the Academy Newsletter at www.neaseacademies.com

If you are an Academy student, and want to drop your Academy for next year, you must fill out and turn in an Academy Drop form. Email Mrs. Combs at Jaime.combs@stjohns.k12.fl.us to request a form. We will not remove an Academy class from the student’s 2018-19 schedule until we’ve received the completed form, per district policy.

A reminder that Academy students sign a contract at the beginning of each year stating that they will maintain certain academic and behavioral standards in order to remain in an Academy program. Academy students must maintain a total GPA of at least a 2.0, and must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA (75%) in an Academy class. A student in an Academy must also maintain a good discipline record.
In accordance with district policy, if a student does not meet these requirements, he/she will be placed on probation for a semester. If, at the end of that probation period, he/she does not have a GPA which meets the requirements, or fails to have an improved discipline record, the student will be removed from the Academy. If an Out of Zone student is removed from an Academy, he/she will be transferred back to his/her zoned school. Letters were mailed home and delivered to students in class in early February, to make students and parents aware of probationary status for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year.

If you have any questions or concerns about Nease’s Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, Communications Academy, or the Stellar Academy of Engineering, please contact Jaime Combs, Academy Coordinator, at Jaime.combs@stjohns.k12.fl.us

Great Decisions, brought to us by World Affairs Council Jacksonville http://www.worldaffairscounciljax.org, is a non-partisan high school enrichment program on foreign affairs that fosters critical-thinking, conversation and decision-making skills. College professors and high school teachers co-facilitate the monthly sessions at school, and encourage students to drive the conversation, ask questions and share opinions. Additionally, interactive program components off campus provide students the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in peer discussions. For content information see http://www.fpa.org/great_decisions

If interested, please join the Schoology group, “Great Decisions Nease” access code 5VTWW-9SNBQ. All events and opportunities will be announced through that Schoology group.

Please note that Great Decisions, The World Affairs Council of Jacksonville, and the Foreign Policy Association are not officially affiliated with Nease High School nor with the Saint Johns County School District. They offer these timely and relevant events to the community free of charge, and I believe they are valuable because they bear on the material taught in many of the courses here at Nease.
