Message from the Principal
Welcome to November!
Dear Families,
We’re stepping into November after an exciting October that brought our school community together with the Book Fair, our annual Pumpkin Walk, and Family Conferences. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make these events a success! As we look forward to the upcoming three weeks, we’re excited about all the opportunities to continue growing academically, socially, and as a community before our well-deserved Fall Break from November 27 through November 29.
Honoring Veterans and Heritage:
This month, we observe Veterans Day on November 11, a day dedicated to honoring all the brave individuals who have served in the U.S. military. As a school community, we’ll be reflecting on the importance of their service, with classroom discussions and activities designed to recognize and express our gratitude for their contributions.
November is also Native American Heritage Month, an important time to celebrate and learn about the rich histories, diverse cultures, and significant contributions of Native American communities.
Spreading Kindness:
We’re thrilled to participate in National Kindness Week from November 11 to 17! During this week, we’ll focus on small acts of kindness and encourage students to spread positivity in their classrooms, at home, and in the broader community. Look for daily kindness challenges, stories of kindness from students and staff, and tips on building a culture of empathy and support.
Principal Prize: During the week, staff write out Panther Prides for students. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I read the Panther Prides on the announcements. On Friday, I have a Principal Prize Drawing from the Panther Prides! Students love coming to the principal's office to claim their prizes! Every student will be called at least once during the year to get their principal prize. We have awesome students at EAST!
Attendance Celebrations: We love having students at East School! This year we are trying something unique :) When our school wide daily attendance is 96% or more, we will have a short school wide celebration. On Wednesday, November 30, our attendance was 96% and today we had lights low and music on during lunch. According to one 5th grader, “it was so slay” which I think means, it was AWESOME! :) Ask your student about it!
Let’s make November a month filled with respect, learning, and kindness as we work together to build an inclusive and welcoming school community.
Warm regards,
Jori Ruff, East Elementary Principal
