Ferdinandi named interim Athletic Director

Memorial faculty member, Steve Ferdinandi, is serving as interim Athletic Director for the remainder of this school year and is looking forward to the new opportunity.

“ I am very excited and feel extremely blessed for this opportunity,” said Ferdinandi. “Stacey did an amazing job as AD, and I was blessed to watch and learn from her example, and Anthony before her. She left the athletic department in a great spot, and I am excited to pick up the baton.”
Felix Lugo named Director of International Student Program
Article written by: Felix Lugo

It feels great to be back. Thank you for your warm welcome. I am honored to be the new Director of the International Student Program. Whether your son or daughter is a new or current student they all are an important part of our campus community, and even more so for the international students. Our international students come from different parts of the world pursuing a rigorous education while experiencing the American culture.

Serving as a school administrator for the past 15 years, I’ve enjoyed seeing domestic and international students graduate and make a difference in their lives, families, and community. At Memorial, the faculty, the staff, and fellow students work together to make sure all students feel welcomed and part of a community. When I heard of the opportunity to return, I did not hesitate. The international students are embraced and adapt easily to the Memorial family. Thank you for creating a home away from home for each of our international students.
Margaret Smith receives Saint Michael's Award

Congratulations to senior Margaret Smith on receiving the Saint Michael’s Award for the Class of 2020 presented by Sgt. Nicholas Barragan of the California Army National Guard.
The award is presented to an SJM senior who:
-   Understands the importance of the community;
-   Is prepared to serve their community in more than one way;
-   Is well-rounded in the areas of academics, community service, commitment, and physical fitness.
At other schools this award is called the Minuteman Award, but the Guard decided to rename the award for SJM to better recognize achievement in a Catholic school. Saint Michael is the Patron Saint of the Military, Police, Firefighters, and Paramedics.
Last April, the faculty and staff were asked to nominate members of the class of 2020 to be interviewed for the award. SJM nominated Grace Baker, Stephen Cantelmi, Taylor DaSilva, Bridget Douglas, Matthew Garza, Ivan Manriquez, Chloe Paraguya, and Margaret Smith. The nominees submitted their resumes and participated in an interview with representatives of the National Guard.
At mass on Wednesday, Oct. 23, the eight seniors were recognized by Sgt. Barragan for their excellence in scholarship, citizenship, service, and physical fitness. He said every senior nominated was outstanding on their own merits, and he was very impressed with the entire group.

42nd Annual Dinner and Auction slated this Saturday

The 42nd Annual Dinner and Auction-Many Dreams…One Mission- is slated for this Saturday, November 2. Each year this event offers an opportunity to celebrate the true gift that is San Joaquin Memorial High School; a community dedicated to developing each student’s God given gifts.

The Dinner and Auction is one of the Central Valley’s longest running fundraisers. For 42 years, this event has attracted thousands of guests and has raised more than $5 million to support programs and services for our students. As the largest fundraiser of the year, our goal is to raise $300,000.

The Dinner and Auction has involved a tremendous amount of energy, imagination, and commitment on the part of many people. SJM is especially grateful for the enthusiastic leadership of our auction committee members who have worked tirelessly to organize an event that will truly be a night to remember.

Special gratitude is also extended to the event's Dinner and Auction sponsors for their generosity, and to all of our parents, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends of San Joaquin Memorial who have contributed to making this event a success.
Thank you to all of our donors and supporters, the 42nd Annual Auction is officially SOLD OUT!
Save the date!
November 14, 2019 is the day you can help raise money for Faris the K9. Students can bring in $5 and receive free dress for the day!

After finding out that Fresno PD K9, Faris, was forced into retirement after sustaining an injury, SJM junior Bailey Feeney decided to raise money for a new K9. Faris played a role in finding the man suspected of killing Memorial student Nick Kauls.
