WEEKLY HIGHLIGHT AND SCORES

SWIMMING had their first meet back from break on Tuesday at Upper Merion. The girls were defeated 103-71, while the boys fell short 94-47. The highlight of the week came on Thursday. The boys team took on Roman, while the girls took on Hallahan in the non league match up. Multiple school records were bettered at the meet. The girls were able to pick up their 1st win of the season in impressive fashion with a score of 74-34. The girls swept all scoring positions in the 200 IM, 100 Fly, 100 Free and 500 Free. The PJP Medley relay finished 1st with a time of 2.23.06. Lindsey Piontek '21 won the 200 Free, while Clare Hilferty '21 placed 3rd. Juliana Zeller '20 won the 50 Free with Grace Machon '20 coming in 3rd. The relay of Lindsey Piontek '21 , Tara Soda '19 , and Clare Hilferty '20 finished in 2.32.54. The Boys team fought hard against Roman, but could muster the win dropping the match up 59-85. The Medley relay finished 2nd, while Jayson Leary '21 placed 3rd in the 200 Free, Patrick Butler '19 placed 2nd in the 50 Free and Angelo Burgese '21 placed 2nd in the 100 Free. Josh Murtaugh '21 qualified for Districts in the 200 IM.

BOYS BASKETBALL continued their stretch of home games on Tuesday hosting Upper Perk. Sharp shooting and balanced defense made it easy as the Panthers down the Tribe 88-58. Drew McKeon '20 led the scoring with 19 points. Tyshyre Malachi '19 added 16 of his own points, while AJ Williams '19 put in 13, Vince Tulli '19 chipped in with 11 and Justin Green '21 hit for 10. The Panthers could not carry that luck over to Thursday against Boyertown . After having a 10 point lead the Panthers couldn't fight off the Bears and dropped the divisional cross over game 61-53. Drew McKeon '20 contributed 19 points in the game. Justin Green '21 added 14, while Chris White '19 added 8.

GIRLS BASKETBALL the girls started their road trip week at Upper Perk on Tuesday. The Panthers made easy work of the Tribe with a 59-22 victory. Lauren Cuba '19 led the scoring with 9 points. Kayla Ciuba '21 and Kayla Vinney '20 both scored 8 points, while Kallan Bustynowicz '21 chipped in with 7, and Brooklyn Rogers '22 tacked on 6. The girls journeyed to Boyertown on Thursday to take on the Bears. The Panthers were within 3 points but could not pull off the win in the final quarter losing 45-33. Kallan Bustynowicz '21 poured in 16 points and Elise Sylvester '19 added 9.

WRESTLING traveled to Pottsgrove on Wednesday. The Panthers narrowly dropped the contest 42-39. Nick Togno '22 , Matt Vulakh '21 , Ryan Vulakh '19 , and Matt Delciotto '20 all picked up a pins at their respective weight classes. Jacob Rau '21 won a 9-6 decision at 182.

JOSH MURTAUGH, SOPHOMORE
BOYS SWIMMING
Sophomore Josh Murtaugh became the first swimmer this season to qualify for districts in the 200 IM on Thursday. His performance also bettered the school record with a time of 2:25.67. Josh also helped to lower school records in the 200 Medley Relay and the 100 Breaststroke during the same meet.

Boys Basketball takes on Pottsgrove at home on Thursday as the team starts the second half of their Winter schedule. The Panthers defeated the Falcons in their first meeting and hope to repeat with a win on Thursday. Before the game we will be honoring the 1979 St. Pius Boys Basketball team, who won the A Championship which was Pius' first State Championship. Are you a Pius Alumni? Stop by the PJP Student Center at 5:30 for some light refreshments and catch up with coaches and players from the 1979 team.
