Thank you to all students, faculty, staff, parents, honorees, and most importantly our volleyball team who helped to make Panthers vs Cancer 2018 a success! This continues to be one of the biggest and best athletic events of the year. Check back next week for a full album and write of this event, including donation totals!
WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS AND SCORES
Golf and Girls Tennis begin postseason play!
Boys Soccer started the week at home against Upper Merion. Unfortunately, the Vikings defeated the Panthers in overtime 2-1. Justin Russell '22 scored the lone goal off an assist from David Lattanze '20. John Wagner '19 had 9 saves in the loss. On Wednesday the team traveled to Upper Perk. The game got into the second half with both teams tied at 1-1 before lightening halted the game. The continuation of the game is scheduled for Friday October 12th. Girls Soccer traveled to Upper Merion on Monday. The team downed the Vikings 2-0. Mary Kate Shannon '20 and Maddie D'Elia '19 scored for the Panthers. On Thursday the girls traveled to the other side of Upper Providence to face off with Spring-Ford. After Spring-Ford scored early in the first half the girls were not able to even the score. Boys Cross Country continues their undefeated streak downing Upper Perk in the rain on Tuesday. Jack Philips '19 crossed the finish line first with a time of 18:29. Kaden Buchler '21 finished third followed by JP Schiele '19 . Jack Brosius '21 finished 7th to ensure the Panthers the 25-30 victory. The boys also competed in Lehigh University's Paul Short Run. Jack Brosius '21 was the first PJP finisher with a time of 16:59, which got him 76th place. Girls Cross Country also joins the boys team atop the PAC Frontier division. The girls remain undefeated after downing Upper Perk on Tuesday. Julia Costello '19 crossed the finish line first with a time of 24:59. A host of Panthers crossed the line for a 4-way tie for 2nd place. Sarah Abruzzo '20 , Claudia Dolan '20 , Natalie Florig '20 , and Katy Todd '22 all crossed the finish line with a time of 25:00. The girls also participated in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University. The top finisher for the girls was Katy Todd '22 who finished 36th overall with a time of 21:03. Girls Tennis started the week of strong with a 5-2 win over Upper Perk. Singles players Veronica Marinari '21 , Jill Boyle '19 , and Jordan Miller '19 all scored victories. The two doubles teams of Shannon Farnsworth '19 and Maggie Christiansen '20 and Kylee Smith '19 and Lina Park '19 defeated their opponents. The team notched another win on Wednesday defeating Pottstown 7-0. All of the singles players and doubles teams defeated their opponents. The team celebrated Senior Day on Thursday against Methacton. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans. Due to rain the match was called before any games were finished. Veronica Marinari '21 and Jill Boyle '19 competed in the PAC Singles Championships on Friday. Boyle won her 1st round match up by a score of 8-4 before falling in the second round. Golf competed in the PAC Championships this week. Congratulations to three golfers who qualified for Districts. Paul Brady '22 , Alex White '22 and Jack Hershey '19 will all be competing for a District 1 title. PAC Golf Individual Championships

Field Hockey picked up their 3rd win of the season in dramatic fashion overcoming a 2-1 half time deficit. Last week's Athlete of the Week Madisan Green '19 scored a goal in the game. Other goals were scored by Maeve Riley '20 , and Caroline Slattery '19 . Goalie Chicy Escudero '21 registered 5 saves in the game. On Friday the team traveled to Coatesville due to wet conditions at PJP. The team dropped the game 5-1. Kelly Pirres '22 scored the lone goal for the Panthers. Volleyball started the week on a high note with a win on Pottsgrove at home. The Panthers downed the Falcons 3-0. Lexi McMonagle '21 , Haley Spotts '20 , and Chelsea Harvey '21 led the stat sheet for the Panthers. The girls got their second win of the week on home Wednesday against Norritown. Again the Panthers swept their opponent 3-0. Mikaela Monroe '19 , Madeline Mulcahey '19 , and Hanna Tulli '21 led the way for the Panthers. The Panthers traveled to Boyertown on Thursday. The Panthers could not continue their win streak dropping the match 3-1. Sarah Ward '20 and Simone Sparano '19 led the way for the Panthers. Football traveled to Pottsgrove this week for the second week of PAC play. In a tough battle that was neck and neck the whole game the Panthers unfortunately picked up their first loss of the season, losing the game 35-28. The Panthers worked up a 13 point lead before the Falcons fought back. CJ McCafferty '19 ran the opening kick off back 81 yards to give the Panthers excellent field position for their first drive. Kamal Gray '20 hit Stephen Skarbek '20 in the end zone for the first score of the game. Gray then hit Justin Kormos '21 for a big gain to set up AJ Natale '20 for 16 yard scoring run. Gray again Kormos for 76 yard touchdown. The Panthers ran their own version of the Philly special for the two point conversion with McCafferty running into the zone for the extra two. Gray started the 4th quarter with a 47 yard pass to Skarbek for the last PJP score of the night. Gray ended the game with 265 throwing yards. The defense also held their own on Friday night. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jillian Boyle, Senior, Girls Tennis
The postseason has begun for fall sports. Jill competed in the PAC Singles tournament last Friday, where she won her first round by a score of 8-4. She also contributed in a big way during last week's wins vs. Upper Perkiomen and Pottstown. The team wraps up regular season play this week.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Girls Soccer takes on Phoenixville at home on Thursday. The team must beat Phoenixville to punch their ticket back to the PAC Final Four this year. In their early season meeting the Panthers came out victorious with a 2-1 win over the Phantoms. Come out and support the girls as they hope to continue into post season PAC play.

Community Service Spotlight
On Sunday, September 30th the softball team spent their afternoon volunteering at the Simon's Heart- Protect This Heart Screening at Pope John Paul. The team helped by setting up the main gym, aux game, and lobby for the event. The girls also helped usher participants through the screening. Some of the girls were also signed up to get their hearts screened! Finally at the end of the day they helped to clean up all the areas.
Thank you to all the families and volunteers that helped make the Protect This Heart Screening a huge success. Simon's Heart was able to screen over 200 students' hearts. To view pictures from the event visit the PJP Athletics Facebook page!
