Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son (Genesis 22:13).

God told Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, the son God promised would continue the line of the Savior. In faith, Abraham was prepared to do so. At the moment at which Abraham was ready to kill Isaac, God intervened and stopped him. God provided a ram caught in the thicket to take the place of Isaac. Because we are sinful, we deserve eternal death. God intervened and sacrificed Jesus in our place as payment for our sins on the cross. He saved our lives for eternity. May God bless us as we continue through Lent preparing our hearts to celebrate Jesus’ loving death and victorious resurrection.
