KEY BISCAYNE AND BEYOND!!!

,
Happy 2017!!!

Welcome to the January Issue of Key Insights Newsletter.

My father, Federico Padovan, moved our family (including grandparents) here in 1973. I was raised  on the Island and left briefly to earn a BFA degree at NYU. But my heart never left Key Biscayne. So I returned to my Island Paradise home where I am raising 4th generation Key Biscayners with my husband Donnie Hall.

As a life-long resident and Realtor on Key Biscayne, I love sharing upcoming events and Interesting activities offered around our community for the residents and frequent visitors of our Island  Paradise and beyond.

We also have three very lovely contributors adding their Insights as well!
To read more about me, CLICK HERE.

As 2017 begins, I want to sincerely THANK all of you for the wonderful feedback and interest in participating in my newsletter and wish you a wonderful NewYear!!!

As Vizcaya celebrates its 100th birthday, we're kicking off this season's Gardens by Moonlight (formerly known as Moonlight Garden Tours) with a chance to explore the not yet open to the public Vizcaya Village!

Once farm land and staff housing, the Village is comprised of 11 historic buildings including the farm quad where chickens and cows were kept, Superintendent's House which was occupied year-round and the historic Garage where Deering parked his many cars. To showcase this little-known history, we're inviting you to wander the Village on your own. There, you'll encounter staff to tell you stories about the spaces and live music like The Wilson Slayers who's story-telling prowess comes in the form of old-time murder ballads.

The Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival believes science fiction and fantasy-themed films are the pinnacle of imaginative storytelling truly requiring innovation. Large-budget studio films have the advantage in visual effects and sets but the independent filmmaker can tell an even more inventive and entertaining story with limited resources. The festival showcases these creations and be a vehicle by which these films can reach a wider audience.
This January, the festival will screen 60 features and short films, give away loads of awards, explore social gamer fandom, discuss scientific topics, take awesome field trips, and enjoy the very best screenplays.

How To Make New Year's Resolutions That You Can Actually Keep!

Every January 1st, people create their list of ALL the changes they want to make for the New Year.  The difficulty is in CHANGE! Being a psychologist for 20 years, I bear witness to how difficult change can be, even for those who seek therapy to help with those changes. Adding stress by having unrealistic goals will decrease your chances of keeping your New Year's resolutions. These tips will help you be successful in the year to come:

1) Make manageable goals/resolutions. If you set the goal too high, you lose confidence and give up trying. For example, if you want to lose 30 pounds, make the goal of 1-2 pounds a week with a dietician's guidance and exercise regime. Or if you want to start exercising, start slow and build up. With each step towards your goal, you will be reinforced to continue.

2) Write it down. A written list holds a bit more credibility than discussing over champagne on New Year's Eve. You can keep a written record of progress, which increases motivation to continue towards your goal.

3) Be specific. If you write down specific goals, it is likely that you have given more thought to your resolutions and will have some direction. Instead of "exercise" being your resolution, write down what kind of exercise (class, trainer, on your own), how often you will exercise, and what time of day you will exercise. You will have more success if you create your own individualized program.

4) Be patient. Whether it is physical or emotional, change takes time. It took time to develop bad habits and will take time to develop good ones. With each step, you will be closer to your goal. Your body and your mind need time to adjust to change.

5) Get support. Once a goal or idea is spoken, it has more energy to manifest. You may decide that outside support would be helpful to reach your goal. Talk to a friend or speak to a professional. You may want a trainer to help you begin your exercise program aimed at specific goals. You may want to speak to a therapist to address changes necessary to decrease your stress or to improve you relationships at work or at home.

Remember the only thing Constant is Change. Wishing you a happy, healthy, and successful 2017!

The Wealth Within

As we wrap up this year and turn toward 2017 with yet another list of goals and resolutions, we tend to forget the bubbling wealth that lies inside of us already. Of course, there's nothing wrong with setting goals and aspirations and making the effort to achieve them. In fact, these intentions are the fuel necessary to accomplish them and the benefits can be quite rewarding. Whether it is weight loss, financial freedom, career goals or expanding our circle of friends, we are conditioned to look outside of ourselves for answers.

Make a habit of taking the time to look deep within and acknowledge the tools you already possess that can lead you to your dreams. We often think of the latest fad or craze as the answer to our goals. Nothing wrong with expanding our knowledge, but do you really need to go on another diet, one more course to improve your luck with romance or happiness, or jump on the latest bandwagon circulating all over social media? Think twice and get picky about what will truly nourish the soul in a way that you alone cannot. In other words, examine closely the tools you already have and inherently know that will support what it is you honestly desire.

Perhaps a daily meditation and/or prayer practice will encourage you to sit still with yourself enough to help you realize what you already know instinctively: what road to choose and which is the most beneficial path to follow. We've become so accustomed to looking elsewhere for our answers that we've shut out that little voice called intuition or gut instinct. Honor, cherish and give that voice center stage. In retrospect, you'll realize how well you fared whenever you did listen to that voice. Look not much further than within this 2017 before you recognize from your resolutions, you're probably already there. Peace and blessings in this New Year!

PLANNING AND SETTING GOALS

Planning and setting goals are the secrets to the big successes in life and business. When we envision, create plans and set forward action, success is inevitable. I spent time working on my own goals for 2017, and through the process, I was able to create this worksheet for you. As a result, here is this very simple worksheet "HOW TO SET UP GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR" to help FEMS start to set up goals for the new year and set action plans to achieve them. DOWNLOAD THE WORKSHEET HERE -> HOW TO SET UP GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR
