Celebrating our 25th year of art and community.
Making and sharing. Learning and teaching.
| | |
My heart is like
The winter desert
Dormant. In deep repose.
Strong roots
in shallow soil. Snow
On high mountains.
Fragrance of Creosote.
Mesquite fire. Sage.
Chill in the air and the nights
so long. Sleep into dreams.
Remembering
the last of the harvest
before the freeze.
Reserves for later need.
It is raining as I write this
It has rained for days.
Washing me clean. Releasing
my essence. Revealing desires
| | | |
in deep ravines. Places
I knew not, within me
In this solitary moment, I ask
What small, beautiful thing
can I make. What can I love
With my whole heart. How deep
runs the river of my soul
All this the long way to say
You will find me right now,
In deep Recline. Wrapped
in warm sweaters and wearing
wool socks.
I rest upon these thoughts
Daydreaming of what Work
I will soon make. But not
Today.

SPEAKER: Ginger Burrell
“You Look So Normal”
"But you look so normal on the outside" is the best compliment Ginger Burrell ever received about her work. Join Marana artist Ginger Burrell as she shares her lifelong, art-making journey — one that began with her first artists’ book at age 8, to a high school teacher’s proclamation that her art was "no good,” to having her artwork in the Smithsonian.
Ginger expresses her ideas, feelings and opinions through art. She finds the flexibility of Artists' Books exciting and endless. Ginger often collaborates with her husband, Greg, who is adept at sudden U-turns because there is something that really needs to be photographed.
Her work includes photography, monotype, composite imagery, sound, electronics, poetry, and most recently ceramics. She explores a range of topics especially social and political issues.
