PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Sojourn:
“to stay for a time in a place”
| |
Sweet long days. Light and warmth. Old bones
soaking up desert heat. As we make ready
for the rituals of summer in some other place.
Soon I will smell of wood smoke and pine. Bundled up
in care-worn clothes. My hair gone wild.
Eagles overhead and the boat house awaiting.
Finding my way back to painting, sculpting, writing.
I understand now, what stirs in the breast of birds.
The instinctive knowing to head North. The ancestral
urging. Homeward. A snowbird surrender.
No one ever said you only get one great love. And no one
ever said you only get one home to love. Let us delight
in the time and place and people where we be. Let us make
art and beauty. Trusting that come winter, Tucson will call us back
with the same sweet yearning, for home.

What Are You Doing This Summer?
Why not create your own DIY Artist Residency?
At our May Meeting, our speaker Patti Gardiner shared how her work evolved during her residency experience last summer on the Tongue River. At the end of her talk she challenged each of us to create our own DIY Artist Residency. So, during these lazy days of summer, take the opportunity to review some of your art projects, ponder where you started and what you learned along the way. What activities, realizations, or new ways of doing things will you (try to) keep from this past year? What new ideas are percolating in your brain? Patti encourages you to emphasize the fun, energizing aspect rather than setting grandiose goals. Go forth and create!

Creative Meetups Complete an Outstanding Year
The 2024–25 season was remarkable for Creative Meetups! Eleven new Meetups were added to the existing three, offering fresh opportunities for creativity, connection, and collaboration. Amazingly, 134 PaperWorks members participated in one or more Meetups this year—a testament to the enthusiasm and talent within our community. Although the Green Valley Collage Adventures Meetup will retire, the rest will continue into the upcoming year.
Back by popular demand, Lyn Hart will teach her Artist Statement mini Meetup again in January 2026. See the slide show of beautiful artwork and prose from Lyn Hart's 2025 Meetup HERE.
If you’ve been thinking about participating, don’t wait—check out our Website for the Creative Meetup that speaks to you and aligns with your schedule, then email the Meetup Contact to add your name to its wait list today.
Happy Creating!

As this 2024-25 PaperWorks Season draws to a close, many of the Creative Meetups will be going on summer hiatus. Let's take a moment to acknowledge not only the participants, but especially, the leaders. These folks juggle a lot as they reserve meeting space, plan agendas, make sure supplies are sufficient, keep a wait list, and generally facilitate our times together. They have been instrumental in creating a safe and non-judgmental place for us to practice and learn, and in many cases, they foster our new found relationships.
At your next meetup, or at the general meeting,
please take an opportunity to pat them on the back.

SOCIAL MEDIA
New postings on our Social Media sites
are on hiatus through the summer.
They will begin again in SEPT.
In the meantime, take photos of your work and make it your goal to submit them for the 2025-26 season. We love seeing the work you make. It links us all together.
