NOV 2025

Our theme this season is

"Beneath the Surface"

Celebrating 25 years of art and community.

Making and sharing. Learning and teaching.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greeting to you all, wherever this finds you.

I am home after much travel and adventure. All of it good. I found inspiration (and courage) to try some new things. I am experimenting with assemblage and have no idea how to do what I am envisioning. But this work is calling to me and I am responding. I do not know if I can pull this off but I am learning a lot and having a blast.

I remind myself that this is what art is all about. Creating a visual story, in some new way. Tapping into a deep well of inspiration and finding that which sparks in the dark. Something wanting to flow through you, onto the page, onto the canvas. It is scary and messy and fun.

In her book Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert explores the concept that good ideas are out there, floating around, wanting to be seen and heard. Wanting to be realized. They go looking for the artist who is ready to receive such a gift and if you are lucky enough to receive it, you must act – or it will go looking for another home.

I invite you to open your heart to the unexpected. To that peripheral flash of light, that tiny tinkling of bells, that idea you are drawn to, but don’t know why. It is inviting you to explore.

To be brave and curious. To create from a new place, for new reasons. Step outside of your comfort zone and see what you find. It might surprise you.

It might astonish you.

Warm Regards,

Vera Gates
