Purifying Thought, Speech, and Action

[G-d instructed Moses to tell the Jewish people,] "I am going to drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites."
Exodus 34:11

Only six of the seven Canaanite nations are mentioned here;
the Girgashites are missing from the list. This is because the first six Canaanite nations personified the six unrectified emotions of the animal soul, while the Girgashites personified the animal soul's drive to express these unrectified emotions in thought, speech, and action. When we rectify the six emotions of our animal soul, we will not have to worry about combating any drive to express them.

But until this process is complete, we must control our faculties of thought, speech, and action in order to ensure that they serve only holy purposes and not those of the six unrectified emotions of our animal soul. The next verse therefore enjoins us to "beware, lest you make a treaty with the inhabitants of the land that you are entering, lest they become a snare in your midst."
Teachings of the Chabad Rebbe

הָאֱמֹרִי
- Amorites = My Speech
 וְהַכְּנַעֲנִי - Canaanites = My Merchant
 וְהַחִתִּי - Chittites = My Fear
 וְהַפְּרִזִּי - Perizites = Demilitarize
 וְהַחִוִּי - Hivites = My Take
 וְהַיְבוּסִ - Jebusites = My Grandfather

Emotions of the Animal Soul Based on the above meanings:
    • Speech which expresses swear words - sexual desires - body functions
    • Desires for business cheating - money that steals from the poor - Window Shopping
    • Unwilling to recognize Fears - Doing Nothing to Face Your Fears
    • Unwilling to Use Diplomacy - Unwillingness to Stand Against Power
    • Take More Than Your Own Needs - Thinking That You Deserve Anything
    • Desire to Not Change - Comfort Zone - My Family is Greater Than Your Family -
    • Not Striving To Grow

The Language of Birds and Animals

Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Polonoye, the Maggid, desperately wanted to learn the language of birds and animals. He thought this knowledge would be useful in soothing the souls of his followers to whom he preached.

The language of the animals, birds and even the plants and rocks is always known by at least one person in every generation. At that time, this knowledge was known by Rabbi Israel ben Eliezer, the holy Baal Shem Tov.

Rabbi Aryeh Leib decided, although possibly presumptuously, to beg his Rebbe, the Baal Shem Tov, to teach him this language. He reasoned that it was all right to ask because, "after all, I only plan to use the power for the sake of Heaven. With the knowledge of the physical world, I will really be able to help my followers overcome their worldly concerns."

Having made up his mind, Rabbi Aryeh Leib traveled to Mezibush. The trip took almost no time because his mind was engrossed with thoughts of listening to the speech of birds and animals.

It was already night when he arrived in Mezibush. The study house of the Baal Shem Tov was lit up and bustling with students. Reb Aryeh Leib entered and saw the Baal Shem Tov sitting at a table speaking with a few of his close followers. While Reb Aryeh Leib was sure that the Baal Shem Tov had noticed him, the Rebbe's eyes didn't meet his to acknowledge his arrival. Later, after most of the students had already left the study house, Reb Aryeh Leib still waited and hoped to be recognized by the Baal Shem Tov. Finally, when the Baal Shem Tov walked out of the study hall, he glanced over to Reb Aryeh Leib and greeted him without any emotion, "Shalom Aleichem" he said.

Reb Aryeh Leib was very upset. "Why didn't he greet me as he always had before?" he wondered. "Maybe I should just leave. But then again, there is nothing more important to me than learning the language of the birds and animals. No! I won't leave. I'll wait for a good time to approach him," he thought.

For the next few days, the Baal Shem Tov didn't say anything special to Reb Aryeh Leib. Then, after Shabbat, the Baal Shem Tov asked Alexei, his wagon driver, to prepare his wagon for a journey. He invited Reb Aryeh Leib and several other Chassidim to join him. Reb Aryeh Leib and the others readily agreed and he was filled with joy thinking that his wish might finally be fulfilled.

The next day, after many long hours of travel, the Baal Shem Tov instructed Alexei to stop at an inn. The Baal Shem Tov went right up to a room that was especially prepared for him by the innkeeper. The Chassidim stayed together in the main room of the inn. Being tired after the long trip, they all immediately fell asleep.

Only Reb Aryeh Leib couldn't fall asleep. He kept wondering if the Baal Shem Tov would teach him the knowledge he desperately wanted to learn. Early in the morning, he heard the Baal Shem Tov pacing back and forth in his room. So he gathered his courage and went upstairs to speak with him. When he reached the top of the stairs, he saw a bright light shining from the Baal Shem Tov's room. He started to go into the room but then realized that the bright light was beaming from the face of the Baal Shem Tov. He stood glued to the floor, unable to look away from the Rebbe's face that was ablaze like a fire.

When the Baal Shem Tov walked over to him, Reb Aryeh Leib nearly fell to the floor with fear. He begged forgiveness for disturbing the Baal Shem Tov.

The Baal Shem Tov gently put his hand on his student's shoulder and said "Reb Aryeh Leib, stand up. Don't be afraid. What is it that you want?"

But Reb Aryeh Leib was too embarrassed to say anything. So he turned around and went back downstairs.

The next day, as they continued their journey in the wagon, the Baal Shem Tov asked Reb Aryeh Leib to sit next to him. Reb Aryeh Leib was very excited by the invitation.

The Baal Shem Tov said to him, "I know that the main reason for your joining me is to learn the language of the birds and animals. I've decided to teach you what you want so desperately to learn. There is, however, one condition that is of the utmost importance. You must listen with your full attention to what I'm about to say."

"Oh yes Rebbe, I promise to give my undivided attention to all that you say," Reb Aryeh Leib answered.
The Baal Shem Tov continued, "To begin, it is known that the Heavenly Chariot is supported by a face of an eagle at one corner, the face of an ox at another corner, the face of a lion at another corner, and the face of a man at the last corner. It is also known that from the eagle face flows the life power to the birds, from the ox face flows the life power to the domestic animals, from the lion face flows the life power to the wild animals and from the man's face flows the life power down to the lower man. Also the language of the birds, the animals and people comes from the Heavenly Chariot. A wise person who can see things at their source in the Heavenly Chariot can understand the speech of the birds and animals."

As the Baal Shem Tov continued with the deeper, primary teachings from our Holy Books such as the Zohar and the Tikkunim, the wagon entered a forest.

Reb Aryeh Leib was listening with all his attention to the Baal Shem Tov. Suddenly he felt a branch brush against his cheek. At that moment he began to hear the animals and birds speaking to each other.

Meanwhile the Baal Shem Tov continued talking. Reb Aryeh was so enthralled with the speech of the animals and birds that he divided his attention. With one ear he listened to the Baal Shem Tov and with the other ear he listened to the birds and animals.

Later, when the wagon came out of the forest, the Baal Shem Tov said, "So you understand all that I said."

"Oh yes!" answered Reb Aryeh Leib.

Then the Baal Shem Tov passed his hand over the face of Reb Aryeh Leib. At that moment, Reb Aryeh Leib still heard the sounds of the animals and birds but could no longer understand their speech.

The Baal Shem Tov said, "Because you couldn't hold your full attention on what I was saying, you're not ready to be entrusted with the knowledge of the language of birds and animals."

And so it was.

Shabbat Vayikra
The name of the Parasha is Vayikra. It is spelled in an unusual way. It has a small Aleph as the last letter. Our Sages indicate that this small Aleph has the energy of helping you to reduce your ego so as to help you unify with the Children of Israel or the Children of Noach. Ultimately it will help you unify with HaShem.

Why should we reduce our egos? In Kabbalah we use ego in a different way then the modern science of Psychiatry and Psychology.

Ego Definitions:

WESTERN WORLD DICTIONARY:   a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance.

PSYCHOANALYSIS:  the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity.

PHILOSOPHY:  (in metaphysics) a conscious thinking subject

KABBALAH:  The "I" within our consciousness that separates an individual from HaShem.

I think most would agree that it is necessary to control the ego so that it does not separate from HaShem.

There is also a difference in the word Vayikra as our Sages compare it to the word Vayikar which is used in the Torah as a method of calling Bilaam - who is the other nations Prophet. Both words - Vayikra and Vayikar - are translated in the same way - call or calling or will call.

Lets look at the similarity and differences
Vayikra - ויקרא - has the meaning of calling with love and softness
Vayikar - ויקר - has the meaning of calling with harshness.

The word Kar that is within both words has the meaning of "cold". "Coldness" is a tool of Satan. When we treat others coldly we are acting as a tool of Satan. The solution to this character trait is to sacrifice something, especially our animal emotions.

The Parasha teaches about sacrifices including animal and plant/vegetable sacrifices. Always remember that reading/studying the section of Vayikra, in the Hebrew, is the same as bringing a sacrifice in the Temple when it existed. It cleanses your sins just as it did in the Temple. It unifies your soul with the Children of Israel and with HaShem, just as it does in the Temple. It allows one to express their desire for Peace and their appreciation for the good in their lives, just as it does/did in the Temple.

Verse Kabbalistic Analysis
For Parasha Vayikra

Vayikra Chapter 1 Verse 1 :
ויקרא אל-משה וידבר יהוה אליו מאהל מועד לאמר
Translation:
HaShem called unto Moses, and spoke unto him out of the tent of meeting, saying:
Transliteration:
Vayikra El Moshe Vaydaber HaShem Alav Mayohel Moaid Laymor:

Numbers from this verse:
9 words - connects to wisdom in the frame of reference of returning light and to creation and creativity in the frame of direct light. The determination depends on the number of letters.

35 Letters - Connects to the root or Shoresh for the word for "redemption". It also connects to the word for "revelation" or "uncover". A third word with/phrase this gematria is

Shiluv Tool: First Letters.
This is my intuitive connection. You need to do this for yourself as well
ואמויאממל
The gematria of this sequence is 174. 174 is the gematria of the Hebrew word "mourning". This is a hint to the human mourning their old comfort zones when they cleanse themselves through changing.

The small gematria of the first letters is 30. Thirty is connected to teaching as this Parasha is teaching about sacrifices and removing chaos and Satan from our lives.

The normal gematria is when the letters position within the Alef Bet is recognized and this style of a number is called normal gematria.

The normal gematria of this verse is
6+1+13+6+10+1+13+13+12 = 75. 75 is connected to the Hebrew word "Priest". This is hinting to the need for a Priest to complete any sacrifice.

Shiluv Tool:   Final Letters
This is my intuitive connection. You need to do this for yourself as well.
אלהרהולדר
The gematria of these letters is 481. 481 = 400 + 81. 81 is the gematria of the word Anochi which is the first word in the Esser Dbrot - 10  Utterances. 400 relates to a number connected to completion. This number hints to the completion of the person bringing the sacrifice to the Temple.

The small gematria of the final letters is 31. 31 is the gematria of the word for HaShem - El.

The normal gematria of these final letters is 1+12+5+20+5+6+12+4+20 =85. 85 is the gematria of the Hebrew word for "mouth". It is also the gematria for HaYesod and also "Ain Sof" meaning Endless World. This is a hint that the foundation to our return to the endless world depends on our sacrifices in order to cleanse ourselves.

Astrology Section

Week of Vayikra:

Sidereal Astrology:
Primary impact will be Jupiter going retrograde until approximately July 10th. During this week we begin to reconsider. What do we reconsider?

Relationships - This not mean we will change this current only that we will be influenced to evaluate the give and take of our relationships.

Balance - in what areas are we in balance and what areas are we in out of balance.

World View and Belief Systems: In what way are we vulnerable and what way too rigid.

This is the week One of the month of Nissan. The First week of every Hebrew month is to plan for the influence of this months astrological energy on your goals.

The month of Nissan, according to our Sages, brings the energy of Freedom from Bondage to our lives. Please appreciate this gift from HaShem. Please prepare yourself and your possessions to receive this Freedom.

Per Sidereal Astrology: There was a lunar eclipse Wednesday January 31 that was in the sign of Cancer - Sartan. This happened on the full moon day and close to the north node which means the effects will last all through the year and even into additional years.

The effects that will start small and grow over a few years are the traits of protection and setting
boundaries. It will also have an influence on fears. Fears about protection and fear as in Awe of HaShem.

Use the tool of Binding by Striking to navigate these extreme up and down movements associated with the emotions of Awe - Love - Fear - Hiding and Anger.

Learn more about how to
change your DNA - read about this weeks Parasha at this link on Parasha Vayeshev

Why Study Zohar?

Here are quotes from famous Kabbalists:

WITHOUT THE STUDY OF THE ZOHAR, THE PNIMIUT HA TORAH, THE REST OF OUR STUDY WILL BECOME A POTION OF DEATH, G-D FORBID

Behold [the expression] 'the Tree of Life' refers to Pnimiut HaTorah, the inner dimension of the Torah, as stated in [the passage from] the Raya Mehemna, Parshas Naso: 'Since in the future, the Jews will taste the Tree of Life which is the Sefer Ha Zohar, Tanya, Iggeres HaKodesh', explains that the term 'the Tree of Life' refers to 'the inner dimensions of the Torah and its mitzvos.'
To explain: The Written Law is referred to as 'the Tree of Life' because it does not enclothe itself in material garments to the same degree [as does the Oral Law]. (For [the Written Law emanates] from Zaer Anpin.) And in [the Written Law], G-dly light can be sensed.
Similarly, Pnimiyus HaTorah has not enclothed itself in material garments, for instead, it speaks of spiritual matters including the chainlike progression of spiritual existence and G-dly subjects. Moreover, the conceptualization and the comprehension of these matters is spiritual and in [this type of thought], the G-dly light can be felt.
Its entire intent is to know G-d and to come to love and fear Him, as the Shaloh writes in his Masechta Shavuos, p. 183b ,269 with regard to the study of Torah lishmah:
The words of Torah that involve research, knowledge, and comprehension [of G-d Himself should be studied in order to know His name and His greatness, and the hidden secrets of His mitzvos. Then the person's heart will be roused to fear Him and to love Him.
RABBI SHALOM DOV BER MI LUBAVITCH ZTK'L KUNTRES ETZ CHAYYIM

THE STUDY OF THE ZOHAR HA KADDOSH IN OUR TIMES IS VERY NECESSARY TO PROTECT AND SAVE US FROM ALL EVIL

The study of the Zohar ha Kaddosh in our times is very necessary to protect and save us from all evil. For the revelation of this wisdom in our times, helps to purify and protect us greatly so that we will be able to cling with a complete heart to our Father in Heaven.
For the people of prior generations were Tzaddikim and Chassidim and people of great deeds, and thus were saved from the accusers, but now we are far removed from our source, and what will protect us if not our reading this Wisdom?
Rabbi Yaakov Tzemach, Hakdama le Etz Chayim

ONE HOUR OF THE STUDY OF ZOHAR IS THE EQUIVALENT OF THIRTY DAYS OF THE STUDY OF THE PLAIN MEANING OF TORAH

Our Holy Master Rabbi Chayim Vital, may his merit shield us, in the introduction to the book Etz Chayim, warned the students of the Torah, those who listen to the Word of G-d, the great obligation they have to study the hidden Torah [Kabbalah], and the great punishment for neglecting its study, because one hour of this study does the same as thirty days of the study of Pshat (plain meaning of the Torah)  (Kise Melech on Tikune Zohar 30, 73b)
THEY CAUSE THE TORAH TO BE DESERTED BECAUSE THEY DO NOT OCCUPY THEMSELVES WITH THE WISDOM OF THE KABBALAH
"And all his kindness is like the grass of the field" (Yeshayahu 40:6) All the kindness that they do, they do only for themselves. And even all those that occupy themselves in the Torah, all the kindness that they do, they do for themselves...Woe to those who cause him [The Mashiach] to leave from the world and don't come, and they are those who cause the Torah to be deserted and do not wish to occupy themselves with the Wisdom of the Kabbalah, for they cause the spring of wisdom to depart which is the YUD, and the BEIT is left on its own (Dried up). Woe to those that they cause poverty, sword, death and destruction...
Tikkune Zohar Tikkun 30
chanoch adds: The Yud mentioned above is HaShem who conceals himself when the Kabbalah is not studied. The Beit mentioned above is referring to the Torah itself as the first letter is the Beit. This comment is to help you understand this section.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO STUDY THE ZOHAR HA KADDOSH
IN PUBLIC

"From the year 1540 onward, it is most important that all study the Kabbalah in public and preoccupy themselves with the study of Kabbalah. For through the merit of Kabbalah and in fact solely through Kabbalah will the Mashiach appear and forever efface war, destruction, social injustice, and above all, man's inhumanity".

Rabbi Avraham Azulai, Or ha Chama, Introduction
If the person does not occupy himself with the 4 levels of Torah study:
PESHAT REMEZ DERASH SOD [PARDES- Simple meaning, allusion, Homiletical level, and the secrets of the Torah] he is missing the Mitzvah of Talmud Torah which is great and is equivalent to all other Mitzvot in the Torah, and this person has to reincarnate until he will occupy himself with the four levels PARDES.
Kitve Ari ha Kaddosh, Shaar ha Mitzvot Alef

"It is a great obligation on all Israel to study the Zohar ha kaddosh every single day, even when it is said without understanding, for this builds worlds and he purifies and sanctifies his soul and there is no limit to the greatness of his reward because through this he brings redemption closer and brings great pleasure to His Creator . . Therefore everybody should at least study five pages per day of the Zahor ha Kaddosh.
Tzavaat Rav Meir Schwartz mi Faidhotz

"The Sefer ha Zohar is a Tikkun for the Baaal Teshuvah - The Man of Return to Hashshem."
Shivche ha Arizal

"If he is meritorious to wake up before dawn. he should then study Sefer ha Zohar for in its merit the Jews will come out of Exile which resembles the night and even though he has not the merit to understand it, even so he shall learn the language for it purifies the soul".
Siddur Shaar ha Shamaim Seder Limud shel ha Kodmim

"And the main point is that when your soul will cling to the books that deal with Yirut Hashem, that you thereby will realize at every moment the great debt you owe to the Creator of all worlds, and in particular through the sefer ha Zohar which is the most important of all, and it will cause your heart to flare up in flames of fire, the Sefer ha Zohar is the key".
Sefer Sur me Rav ye Ase

"One should learn Sifre Kabbalah, and when he does not understand it he should learn the Zohar and the Tikkunim for they are a Segula to purify the Neshama"
Siddur ha Aziral of Rabbi Yaakob Kapil

"The study of the Sefer ha Zohar is more elevated than any other study, even if he does not know what he is saying and even if he makes mistakes. And it is a great Tikkun for the Neshama, because even though the Torah is composed of names of the Holy one Blessed be He, it is nevertheless clothed in many stories, and when the person reads, he understands the stories and puts his mind on the simple meaning of those stories, but the sefer ha Zohar has the secrets revealed, and the reader knows that there are secrets and the occult parts of the Torah, only that he does not understand because of the depth of the subject and the shortness of his understanding".
The Chida, More Ba Etzba Siman 44

"...And even when he is like an animal that does not know how to read, even with all this, his reward will be double and there is an insinuation in the verse (Tehillim) "Man and beast Hashem saves" where the Gematria of the words TOSHIA HASHEM (Saves Hashem) plus the letters plus the 2 words themselves equals the sum of the following: ZOHAR TIKKUNIM BE DIKDUK TZACH (TZADDI CHET - TZE CHASHOV) - chanoch adds: Zohar and the Tikunim is the grammer seed level of cleansing.
Hakdamat of the Editor of the Zohar edition printed in Livorno
chanoch's Commentary
You may have heard me say that when reading the Zohar in Hebrew or Aramaic that I do not understand - I realize that I made a mistake in pronunciation. When I go back and correct that mistake I make a Tikkun - a correction. This is because making a mistake is caused by our Tikkun which causes a blockage. When I go back and pronounce the words properly I make this correction and break that specific Klipah.

"He who studies the Zohar, even when he doesn't understand what comes out of his mouth, Ha Kaddosh Baruch Hu rectifies his words..."
Hakdamat of the Editor of the Zohar edition printed in Livorno

"It is necessary to read in the Sefer ha Zohar even when he does not know what it says, because it is a great correction to the Shechina and to his own soul as it is known for various reasons."
Tikkun Leil Shavuot Le ha Ramaz

"O that my people would listen to me, in this evil generation when heresy increases, It is proper to learn the Zohar and the Tikkunim with children nine years of age so that their fear of Hashem will precede their wisdom and will be maintained"
Notzer Chessed on Massechet Avot, Perek 4

"One who does not merit to understand The Zohar, he should nevertheless learn, because the language of the Zohar purifies the soul"
Ohr Tzaddikim by Rav Meir Papirash

"And we see that in regards to the study of the Mishna there are many opinions that say that one must understand what he is studying, but when reading Tehillim (Book of Psalms) or the Zohar even if one doesn't understand anything at all, it is important and received and desired by The Holy One Blessed Be He"
Pele Yoatz

"One who does not merit to understand The Zohar, he should nevertheless learn, because the language of the Zohar purifies the soul"
Ohr Tzaddikim by Rav Meir Papirash, a student of the Ari ha Kadosh

"Because of this work. the Book of the Zohar, [the Children of Israel] will be redeemed from exile"
The Zohar ha Kaddosh (3, 124b)
