Pardon Our Dust: Hall Elementary

20110927_AdminHeadshots_0102.JPG

Dear Hall Families,

We are excited to welcome our Hawks back to school in just a few short weeks!

Although our school’s transformation is progressing very well, I want to update our families on what you can expect when our Pre-K and Kindergarten students return on Monday, August 16, 2021 and students in grades 1-5 kick off the school year on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

I understand it can be a bit unsettling to pass by the school and see that our campus is not yet complete, so close to the first day of school.

The Hall Elementary major renovation is one of many District improvement projects approved by voters under the 2017 Bond program. With a total contract value of $13,570,353 and originally scheduled for completion by August 2021, six weeks of rain and industry-wide supply shortages have contributed to a delay in Hall’s renovation completion until later this fall.

However, we will be open and ready for learning on day one, with a few accommodations in place due to the incomplete items. Additionally, deep cleaning of the facility will be taking place over the next few weeks.

What Will Be Ready?

-Classrooms! With no more portables on the property, I am excited to share that every student will be in a new classroom on the first day of school so there will be no disruption to learning.

-Playground: Including hard surface play area and walking/jogging path.

Also, over the next few weeks, families will notice visible progress and clean up around the exterior school grounds.

What’s Not Quite Ready?

As we begin school, construction teams will continue work on the incomplete areas of the project, which will be clearly designated as off limits for students and staff (no different than last year) until they are complete. These include:

-Library: The library will be temporarily located in the computer lab space.

-STEM lab: We will utilize a classroom as the STEM lab until work is complete on this new addition to Hall Elementary.

-Cafeteria: Students will eat free and hot breakfast and lunch in the gym until the new cafeteria and kitchen area are ready.

-Administration area: We will utilize available areas in the renovated space to accommodate administrative staff.

Parking, Drop Off/Pick Up

The North parking lot and driveway (along Meadowside) will be utilized as the temporary parent stacking lane until the new staff parking lot and parent stacking lane are complete at the back of the school. The new visitor lot and driveway will be used for visitor parking, bus and daycare pick-up and drop-off. Please reference the graphic embedded in this newsletter.

I want to thank the CCISD Facilities team and Hall Project Manager Lindsay Davis for her efforts on this important school renovation, as well as VLK Architects and construction contractor Cadence McShane for their exemplary commitment and diligence through a variety of challenging conditions during the project.

Lastly, my thanks and appreciation go out to the staff, students and surrounding community of Hall Elementary. Your patience, understanding and encouragement throughout this school improvement initiative is about to pay off as we all enjoy our new school.

More information is coming soon to ensure for a great start to the school year, but if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Stephanie King
