The final round of the 2019 Walton Horton and Jeanne Campbell WSCGA Match Play Championship was far from boring. The exquisite Palmetto Club did not disappoint with slick greens and plush fairways. Giving players confidence from tee to green at the same time guarding par with its greens. The Championship match was against the 2019 WSCGA Senior Champion and roommate for the week Rachel Wyatt. Wyatt started strong going back and forth with Pardus throughout the front nine making the turn one down to Pardus. Pardus preceded to tap into her talent and take 4 of the next 6 holes securing her second WSCGA championship for the year 4&3.
The Championship Consolation Division finals match was played by recent college graduate and Aiken resident Brooke Hutto vs Jennifer Weiland. It was super windy when this match teed off giving the Charleston native an advantage on the front nine. Winning 4 holes and making the turn 2 up Weiland ran into a wall thus allowing the hometown native to come from behind and win the match 2&1.
In the next match with Karin Wolfe and Nancy Dodge battling it out for the State Division Bracket 1 Title. Wolfe came
out the gate with determination and took an early lead in the match. Wolfe won the State Division Bracket 1 4&3.
The State Division Bracket 1 Consolation final match was played by Lawrette McCann and Sherie Vogel. McCann came to win and it showed starting on the first hole. McCann took the first hole and never let up winning the match 3&2.
State Division Bracket 2 played by Connie Chick and Carole Stone. Stone being the mother of a local pro showed the determination of a tour player by taking this match 2&1.
The State Division Bracket 2 Consolation was played by Lynn Holmes and Kristi Coggins. Coggins tapped into her coaching head in this match winning 4&3.
In the State Division Bracket 3 was Carrie Dillard vs Jeanne Reynolds. This match went all 18 holes switching leads all day, but when holes ran out Dillard came out in the winner circle 1up.
The State Division Bracket 3 Consolation match was played with Betty Poore vs Leah Bohnen. The ladies played hard and made some great shots. Bohnen ended up winning this one 1up.
The next match in the State Division Bracket 4 was between two ladies who compete against each other on a regular basis, Martha Weaver and Jean Burns. The match stayed steady on the front then Burns took off and won the match 3&1.
In the Consolation match of State Division Bracket 4 Mary Vogel took an impressive 7 holes in a row to beat Rebecca Peterson 5&4.
Betty Reynolds, still pumped to be back on the links, took the title in the State Division Bracket 5 match 2up over Carol Morton.
In the Consolation Division of Bracket 5 Heather Paddison played against Kathleen Taylor. Paddison putter was hot and won the match 4&3.
Bracket 6 of the State Division was played between Teresa Sprouse and Ursula Bethmann. The front nine was like a ping pong match switching back and forth between the players. Sprouse stepped it up on the back nine and took this one 4&3.
The Crier's Tournament this year consisted of 7 teams. We turned the links into a par 3 course and played a 2 best ball of the 3. The seven teams were Rooke, Meehan, Liley; Harwood, Olson, Trent; Coulter, Garber, Todd; Armbruster, Garber, Robinson; Gebert, Huff, Morris; Ellison, Halliday, O'Brien; and Bradshaw, Secoy, Snider. Team Rooke wound up winning the Crier's tournament..
