Head of School
Dear Mercy Families,

Can you believe it's almost May? AP exams, finals, and graduation are right around the corner and yet there is still so much more to accomplish this school year. If I feel that way I'm sure you and your daughters do as well. This time of year can be very exciting as summer break approaches, but it can also be incredibly stressful for students. The pressure surrounding grades, tests, final exams, college admissions, etc. can be overwhelming. So when I read this in Chapter 4 of Magdalena Yeşil’s book  Power Up: How Smart Women Win in the New Economy , I perked up:

"It is nice to celebrate when you get a major win ... but those big wins are few and far between. If you wait for one to celebrate, you may be waiting a long time. So learn to set small goals that are achievable in a short period of time and celebrate each one."

Over the next six weeks I want to encourage all of you to help your daughters set those small goals and celebrate small wins. It will go a long way toward alleviating the negative effects of stress, help convert pressure into accomplishment, and encourage the development of a healthy attitude of goal-setting that will last far beyond her years at Mercy.

On a different note, I want to remind you that you're all invited to our  La Merced Gala  on May 3, 2018. Please click  HERE  for more information and to buy tickets.

Scott McLarty

Academics
Dear Mercy Families,

I want to update you on a couple important events that are coming up as we enter the final weeks of the 2017-18 school year.

Earth Day/Spring Day Schedule
Friday – May 4, 2018
  • 8 – 8:10 a.m. Homeroom
  • 8:20 – 9:15 a.m. Earth Day Assembly
  • 9:25 – 10:30 a.m. Spring Day Rally
  • 10:30 -11:15 a.m. Club Food Festival
  • 11:15 – 11:30 a.m. Fire Drill Lines/Roll - Dismissal

Finals Schedule
In an effort to provide students with more time to study for finals, and to help combat some of the stress associated with that time of year Mercy is piloting a new format for finals.

Rather than the traditional finals schedule with two exams each day for three consecutive days, finals will be spread out so that students do not take finals on consecutive days. Below is the finals schedule for this Spring.
  • Friday, May 25 - World Languages, Science
  • Tuesday, May 29 - English, Math
  • Thursday, May 31 - Social Studies, Religious Studies

Monday, May 28 is a holiday and Wednesday, May 30 will be a study day for students (and grading day for teachers). Mercy will not be open to students on Wednesday, May 30. It is our hope that this schedule will enhance student’s ability to study, destress, and take proper care of themselves between exam dates.

Associate Head of School, Academics

Dear Mercy Families:

It’s almost here - Mercy’s annual La Merced Gala! We are excited for next Thursday, May 3, when the Mercy community gathers for our most significant event of the year. We have a terrific evening planned with student speakers and performances, and can’t-miss silent and live auction items. We count on parents and families for this event, and we hope that you will join other parents and caregivers, alumnae, and friends for our signature event and a fun-filled evening celebrating Mercy.

During this landmark year, Mercy is celebrating its 65th anniversary and accordingly the theme for the La Merced Gala is “Then and Now.” At this event, we are looking back to our roots and rich history, and looking toward the bright future of Mercy. Please join us and bring your friends and family.

I look forward to meeting you at the gala!
