As Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close, we are sharing some strategies you can employ to manage stress and support your mental wellness. By normalizing talking about your feelings and reaching out to friends when you are feeling stressed and need support, you will create a culture of mental health in your family and community. If you or someone you know is struggling, let someone you trust know. Here are five ways to support mental wellness:

1) Practice Mindfulness: take time to cultivate calm in your life, you can try a meditation app or online guided meditation

2) Stay Active: even five minutes a day of exercise can lift your mood and increase your energy level

3) Get Enough Sleep: create consistent bedtime routines and stay off your phone at bedtime

4) Practice Gratitude: set aside a few moments every day to notice what you are grateful for

5) Ask for help: reach out to others when you are struggling. If you need more support, you can call the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

To increase understanding of how to recognize and support people with developmental differences so they can live to their fullest, the DFX team conducts research, develops models of clinical reasoning, and shares our knowledge with parents, caregivers, clinicians, and educators. We are changing the landscape of what transformative care looks like for children and families - locally, nationally, and globally.
