Dear Purchase Day Camp Family,

We hope your camper is having an amazing summer at Purchase Day Camp. Many parents have asked about tipping guidelines for TEAM Members. Although I hesitate, I felt it necessary to give you some input. First and foremost, you should not feel obligated to tip. You should tip based solely on your experience and satisfaction with your child’s experience at camp.  

Parents have been asking about sending tips through Venmo or Zelle. This year, we have partnered directly with a platform that services summer camps. It is called Grazzee; instructions are below. If you wish to tip but do not want to use the app, you may send envelopes to the office.  

To tip through Grazzee, you will need to know your camper's group, which can be found by logging into the parent portal (or ask your camper 😊).

📱 Using the Grazzee App

1. Download “Grazzee” from the App Store or Google Play

2. Enter your name and email

3. Click “Give$” → “Camp” → Purchase Day Camp

4. Find your child’s group and staff

5. Enter your tip and (optional) note

6. Choose how to pay (credit card or bank account)

7. Hit Send — they’ll get your tip right away, and you’ll get an emailed receipt!

💻 Using the Website

1. Go to www.grazzee.com and click “Create Account”

2. Click “Send Money” → “Camp” → Purchase Day Camp

3. Select your child’s group and staff

4. Enter tip amounts and follow the steps to pay

5. Choose how to pay (credit/debit card or bank account)

6. Hit Send — they’ll get your tip right away, and you’ll get an emailed receipt!

As advice for those of you who wish to tip but want some guidance, I am going to give you the methodology I used when my children were campers. I used the hierarchy below. The TEAM Leader would receive the highest amount and so on down the line.

1. TEAM Leader/Assistant TEAM Leader

2. Senior Counselors/Swim Instructors

3. Assistant Counselors/Bus Staff

You can view the current Leadership Assignments in the Parent Portal on our website. Some counseling TEAMs have four counselors while others may have up to six. Add in the swim instructor and the number of TEAM Members being tipped can vary drastically. I suggest that you determine the total amount you wish to tip and then break down the dollars accordingly. My understanding is that most parents use a range, per person, of anywhere from $25 to $200. Please remember that you are NOT obligated to tip.  

You pay a lot of money to come to camp, and our counselors know that tipping is optional and not required. Any tips they receive are viewed as above and beyond and I am hopeful that they express their thanks accordingly. If you have any questions, please call me directly at 914-949-2636.
