Dear families,
“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”
– William Arthur Ward
In this season of thanksgiving, let us reflect on the true power behind each “thank you”. I love this quote because it reminds us not only to be thankful, but it also challenges us to express our gratitude. It is by expressing our feelings of gratitude towards one another that we make an impact on each other’s lives. To say thank you is to acknowledge all those blessings in our lives that we may sometimes take for granted. To say thank you is to understand that we need each other on a daily basis, that we cannot do everything alone. It is a humbling experience to say thank you and recognize those around us who help us in small and in big ways. So, please allow me to say “thank you”. Thank you for your continued support. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving this school community. Most of all, thank you for raising compassionate, loving and gracious children who make coming to work every day a joy.
Blessings,
Mrs. Oseguera
Principal

Dear Parents,
We kicked off the month of October with a professional development day sponsored by the San Diego Diocese. The keynote speaker, George Couros, left a lasting impact. Mr. Couros said, “To inspire meaningful change, you must make a connection to the heart before you can make one to the mind”. With these words in mind, Mrs. Massa, Mrs. Bremer and Mrs. Gorban continued their learning at a professional development on Responsive Classrooms. They returned eager to implement and share their learning so that we can all continue to connect to the hearts and minds of our students. In November, we look forward to holding an anti-bullying assembly presented by Razzle Bam Boom, in order to continue to foster empathy, respect and kindness among our students.
Warmly,
Mrs. Torres
Vice Principal

Mater Dei Juan Diego Academy and Mater Dei Catholic High School are joining together to participate in our first #CrusadersGiving Tuesday Marathon campaign, and we invite all of YOU to join us on Tuesday, November 19, 2019! We will be running from 8:30am-2:30pm, but our fundraising begins at midnight on November 19 through 11:59pm. The goal is to raise $100,000.
Over the past couple years, we organized a fundraiser to get students and families involved during the March timeframe called the Walk-A-Thon (Color Walk for the high school), and our community reach was limited. This year, we decided to tap into the Giving Tuesday global giving movement which promotes philanthropy and brings communities together to support a common goal around Thanksgiving time. We have much to be grateful for at Mater Dei. Our student body is growing, our students are thriving and the product of our education including academic programs, personal attention, quality teaching, wellness, faith and safety is soaring. We will come together and rally the community to help run, build awareness and raise funds for enhancements to our Technology & Athletic facilities. For more information, see the attached FAQ.

What you need to know:
- We will be asking all students to contribute $5 between November 11-15 - %100 student participation will earn a Crusader Celebration for both schools on Friday, February 21, with games, a taco truck and prizes!
- We will be asking all families to help us by donating and encouraging others to give as well through email and social media. Visit CrusadersGiving.org for details on how to be a social media ambassador and be in the running to earn cool MD gear for sharing.
- Lastly, we are looking for special friends of Mater Dei to consider making a matching gift to help DOUBLE the funds raised on our day of giving. If you can help with this, please contact Alejandra Saavedra, Director of Advancement at asaavedra@MDCHS.net.
Through your generosity and support we will be able to continue to educate the next generation of bilingual, faith-filled, global leaders.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: GRATITUDE
The virtue for the month of November is Gratitude. Please talk to your students about the meaning and importance of this virtue. Let's remind them to be thankful for their families, their school, their teachers and their friends.

Thank you so much to all the parents and families who helped with Trunk or Treat. You all went above and beyond to make sure our students had an amazing event. The laughter and smiles from everybody were priceless. We are blessed to have such an engaged and supportive parent community.
