Thank you all for attending our Q and A session last Thursday and for posing such thoughtful questions! It is through this process of feedback and revision that we are able to create a safe and thorough plan for our return to school. I look forward to welcoming all of our amazing UPark staff back next week when we will be continuing our professional development centered around accelerating learning, creating our Black Excellence Plan and planning for social emotional learning and staff self-care. We will be sharing our return to school plan with families next week along with a detailed schedule of daily learning. Please attend tonight's Regional Town Hall meeting to learn more about what remote learning will look like this school year. Click here for the meeting details and Zoom link.

Calendar Change
Due to DPS classes starting a week late this year we are changing one date on the UPark calendar. We had a teacher planning day scheduled for September 4th to analyze data, but those plans have changed due to the remote start of the school year. September 4th will now be a regular instructional day of school for both staff and students. HERE is the revised UPark Calendar.

Annual Family Update - Please Complete As Soon As Possible
The annual student registration process opened on July 27, 2020. Families will register online through the Annual Family Update to avoid in-person interactions. Please note that a mandatory supplemental form will be included to capture each student's enrollment decision for either the In-Person Learning or the 100% Virtual/Online Program. If you completed your Annual Family Update in May during the "Early Bird" window you will fill out an addendum form with your selection. Please see the information further down in this newsletter for additional information and links.

First day of school - August 24, remote for all students through at least October 16th
As you know, on July 29th, our superintendent Susana Cordova communicated updated information regarding the beginning of this school year. Based on new data and guidance, DPS made the decision to delay returning to school in person until October 16th at the earliest. DPS will begin the 2020-21 school year with remote learning, with a delayed first day of remote school on Aug. 24 to allow our teachers time to welcome students back remotely and plan for the school year. You will find the DPS Remote Learning Plan here

Teacher Assignments
I know that students (and parents) get very excited to find out who their teacher for the upcoming school year is. Please know that teacher assignments may be listed in IC and family members will be able to see this information when completing the Annual Family Update, but these assignments are not finalized. We are still in process of finalizing class lists due to the shift to remote learning through October 16. We plan to share class lists with you next week! Thank you for your understanding and flexibility during this unprecedented time!

Thank you,

Complete Your Annual Family Update Now!

Go to http://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/ to get started.

ALL FAMILIES must update student information before school starts each year through Annual Family Update. This year you will also choose whether your student is in a virtual program or in-person learning as conditions allow after October 16th. As stated in Superintendent Cordova's communication yesterday families will be able to change their enrollment decision into early fall.

At this time if you would like your student to return to in-person learning as soon as it's available, please select the in-person learning option. If you're certain that you won't feel comfortable having your student participate in in-person learning for the fall semester (December 2020), please select the 100% virtual learning option. Please note that we are still confirming details of this process change and will share more information soon. Families who enroll in the Virtual Program will keep their enrollment slot at UPark.

Also note that due to COVID-19 there will be no in-person registration. All families (for new and returning students) must complete Annual Family Update online this year. Please reach out to Alexis Matter and Sharon Rusin if you need support with this process.

To complete Annual Family Update, you must have an active DPS Parent Portal account.
Create or log into your Parent Portal Account here. If you do not know your student ID # you can find it here.

Did you Complete Early Bird Annual Family Update in May? Addendum Required!

If you verified your family's information during the "Early Bird" Annual Family Update window this past May we want to collect your preference on the Learning Options (in-person/hybrid as conditions allow or 100% virtual) that will be offered to students this upcoming school year. An updated addendum form has been linked below with current language around the ability to change your choice. If you already filled the previous addendum out you do not need to re-send this updated one.

Download the UPDATED form HERE, fill it out and email it to Sharon Rusin at [email protected].

**NEW! You can now complete your learning selection digitally in Parent Portal! Log into your portal account and you should find a digital "Learning Option Change Form" on your homepage. If you make your selection digitally you will not need to submit the PDF addendum linked above.
