I hope this message finds everyone safe, healthy and enjoying summer. As you heard yesterday, the District has decided that due to the current state of COVID-19 in our state we will be learning remotely through at least October 16th. While we are disappointed that we won't get to see students in person until October we understand that this is in the best interest of the safety and health of our students, staff and community. I am very excited to build on what we learned during remote learning in the spring to ensure that we make this the best start to the school year possible! For more information from Superintendent Cordova please read the statement here. Please also read through the information below and join us for our question and answer session this evening for additional details on our return to school plan.

Calendar Change
Due to DPS classes starting a week late this year we are changing one date on the UPark calendar. We had a teacher planning day scheduled for September 4th to analyze data, but those plans have changed due to the remote start of the school year. September 4th will now be a regular instructional day of school for both staff and students.
HERE is the revised UPark Calendar.
Annual Family Update - Open Now
The annual student registration process opened on
July 27, 2020. Families will register online through the Annual Family Update to avoid in-person interactions.
Please note that a mandatory supplemental form will be included to capture each student's enrollment decision for either the In-Person Learning or the 100% Virtual/Online Program. If you completed your Annual Family Update in May during the "Early Bird" window you will fill out an addendum form with your selection. Please see the information further down in this newsletter for additional information and links.
First day of school - August 24, remote for all students through at least October 16th
As you know, yesterday, July 29th, our superintendent Susana Cordova communicated updated information regarding the beginning of this school year. Based on new data and guidance, DPS made the decision to delay returning to school in person until October 16th at the earliest. DPS will begin the 2020-21 school year with remote learning, with a delayed first day of remote school on Aug. 24 to allow our teachers time to welcome students back remotely and plan for the school year. You will find the DPS Remote Learning Plan here.
Teacher Assignments
I know that students (and parents) get very excited to find out who their teacher for the upcoming school year is. Please know that teacher assignments may be listed in IC and family members will be able to see this information when completing the Annual Family Update, but these assignments are not finalized. We are still in process of finalizing class lists due to the shift to remote learning through October 16, but will get the lists to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility during this unprecedented time!
