On behalf of our Governing Board, Superintendent Leadership Team, Administrators and teachers, we want to say thank you to all parents. Thank you for guiding our scholars through distance learning this year, thank you for putting your trust in Cartwright through a difficult global pandemic. We hope we kept you safe and thriving through all the challenges. We are so proud of the work you did this year and we celebrate you! We hope you watched 3TV's documentary Empty Seats, Open Hearts: A New World in Education last Friday. It's a love letter to Spitalny staff & parents but it's such a celebration of what we all went through as a district this past year. En nombre de nuestra Mesa Directiva, Equipo de Liderazgo del Superintendente, Administradores y maestros, queremos agradecer a todos los padres. Pandemic Emergency Benefit Transfer(P-EBT cards)

What is P-EBT?
Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT), authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, provides families of eligible children additional funds to purchase food during the 2020-2021 school year. P-EBT is a complement to the meals and snacks currently being provided to children through the Child Nutrition Programs.

Distance Learning
Aprendizaje a Distancia
As we close out the 2020-21 school year, I want to thank our amazing Cartwright families for their continued support during such a difficult time. We know that distance learning put a lot of stress on you and your child. However, throughout the pandemic, our community consistently demonstrated resilience and a willingness to rise to the challenge of learning at home.

Now as we return to in-person learning, I want you to know that the Cartwright School District will continue to offer an online learning option for those families that want it. Through the Cartwright Virtual Academy, scholars can continue their learning online with the support of highly qualified and certified teachers. This new program will be available to all scholars in Cartwright from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. It is important to note that the virtual academy will present a different experience from distance learning in some key ways:

Instruction is meant to be much more flexible and student-directed with teachers offering office hours to support their scholars instead of regularly scheduled classes
Parents will have to submit logs of their child’s instructional time (both online and offline) in order to meet state requirements for attendance and participation
Even though all core academic classes will be offered, there will be limited access to electives and special areas.
In-person standardized testing will be required for all scholars

The great news is that our scholars who enroll in the Virtual Academy have the option of co-enrolling in a physical school site so that they have access to athletics, clubs, social-emotional services and specialized academic and related services.

Academia Virtual Cartwright
Al cerrar el año escolar 2020-21, quiero agradecer a nuestras increíbles familias de Cartwright por su continuo apoyo durante un momento tan difícil. Sabemos que el aprendizaje a distancia les genero mucho estrés a usted y a su hijo(a). Sin embargo, a lo largo de la pandemia, nuestra comunidad demostró constantemente resiliencia y voluntad para enfrentar el desafío de aprender en casa.

Ahora que volvemos al aprendizaje en persona, quiero que sepa que el Distrito Escolar Cartwright continuará ofreciendo una opción de aprendizaje en línea para aquellas familias que lo deseen. A través de la Academia Virtual Cartwright, los estudiantes pueden continuar su aprendizaje en línea con el apoyo de maestros altamente calificados y certificados. Este nuevo programa estará disponible para todos los estudiantes en Cartwright desde el Kinder hasta el octavo grado. Es importante tener en cuenta que la academia virtual presentará una experiencia diferente a la educación a distancia en algunas formas claves:

·     The Grand Canyon Learning Lounge will continue to offer free online tutoring and academic support to 2nd through 12 grade English and Spanish-speaking students this summer. Visit this link to learn more: https://www.gcu.edu/why-gcu/campus-life/student-success/learning-lounge

·     The Phoenix Public Library has a number of programs happening this summer. We’re highlighting a few here: Kids and teens can virtually drop in for classes such as Video Game Design with Twine, 3D Modeling, Hacker Haven, Art is Whatever: Art through Digital Media, Tools for School (a preschool prep program), Kindergarten Bootcamp (for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2021) and so much more! ·     The Boys and Girls Club (Spencer D. & Mary Jane Stewart Branch on 67th & Clarendon) will be open this summer for all club members: 5 – 18 years of age. Full and partial scholarships through the summer LEAP (Learn, Engage, Achieve & Progress) program are available to those who qualify and while funding is available. If your child is not currently enrolled, please visit https://www.bgcaz.org/ to register online. Families may also call 623-848-1022 with questions. All parents will need to attend a brief orientation prior to the start of the summer programs.

Thanks to our staff, parents, and students this year's drive-thru 8th-grade promotions were a success. We were also able to celebrate our preschool and kindergarten scholars as they completed their school year.

Next school year the Bret R. Tarver Leadership Academy will be the Home of the Gifted and Talented Academy for students in elementary school. Students who score at the 96th percentile or higher on a state-approved abilities
assessment are eligible to be enrolled in this program. Students accepted into the Gifted and Talented Academy at Tarver qualify to be bussed to Tarver Leadership Academy from their neighborhood bus stop and/or home school. For more information click here.

We have very talented Scholars!!

COVID-19 Vaccination Event
If you can't make it to the event, Mountain Park Health Clinic also has the Pfizer vaccine available to all 12-18 year olds. Right now the schedules are so open you can just walk in Monday through Friday 7:30 am-3:30 pm and Wednesdays 11:00 am-8:00 pm. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, call 602-243-7277 and ask to be scheduled at the Atkinson clinic.

Mountain Park Health Clinic is housed at Marc T. Atkinson Gifted Academy and IB Middle School at 4315 N. Maryvale Parkway.
Visitors may enter the clinic at the door next to the Center for Strong Families and Thriving Children. The clinic will be open five (5) days a week during the 2020-21 school year. For your convenience, they also have a clinic on the corner of 67th Ave and Thomas Rd. For an appointment please call (602)243-7277.
