State Testing
State testing runs from March 28 to April 28, 2022. Scholars in grades 3-8 are now testing using Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment (AASA), formerly the AzM2/AzMERIT Assessment. This test is critical in measuring learning in the school year. These tests are used to determine school performance at the state and national levels. We need your help in supporting your child's efforts to perform at their best during testing.
The following are a few essential keys to their success:
  •  Scholars should attend school every day and arrive on time
  • Scholars should get plenty of rest each night
  • Scholars should eat breakfast either at home or at school
  • Scholars should be encouraged to do their best

The AASA Sample Tests are now live and can be accessed through Pearson's TestNav platform. From home.testnav.com, click on Arizona and Mic Check & Sample Tests. This link and instructions are also provided on the AASA webpage and the Educator Resources webpage
Please keep in mind the importance of our testing window and the need for your children to attend school every day. As always, we appreciate your support of your children and our schools.
You can also find more information about the AASA test in this month's Why Cartwright podcast with Superintendent Dr. Aguilar-Lawlor. Click on the links below to listen to the podcast:

Prueba Estatal

New Program Implemented
Cartwright School District has implemented Xello, a College, Career, and Life Readiness program for 5th - 8th graders. XEloo helps scholars of all backgrounds, abilities, and aspirations become future-ready.

Xello helps scholars create their successful future through building self-knowledge; exploring careers, post-secondary education options, and programs of study; and creating personalized, actionable plans. The program also comes with a built-in curriculum and activities that help teach students to build social-emotional competencies and employability skills - capabilities that are critical for academic and workplace success.

With the launch of Xello, Cartwright wanted to utilize the Family Portal feature which allows parents/guardians to have access to see and discuss their student's future goals and plans.

If your child is in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade and you'd like access to your child's digital portfolio and review their work, please fill in the contact information below to create an account for you.

Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Message from President Laura Martinez
Consejo Consultor de Padres
During the March Parent Advisory Council meeting, we had a presentation on an important topic: how to keep our schools safe. Parents, I suggest you take a minute to have this conversation with your children. Ask your children if they know what to do in the event of a fire or lockdown at school. How prepared are they? And how much information is the school communicating and is it understood? The district does a great job of communicating but as a parent, I want to make sure you and your scholar are prepared and knowledgable.
As a parent, I appreciate the way they prepare our children. If you feel the same, please let your school know. During the meeting, we also got to see the new LED stop signs that all crossing guards will be using (see pictures below). As parents, we appreciate all that the Cartwright staff and Governing Board members do to keep our scholars safe.

This month's featured School Policy is:

The policy requires each school to have at least one teacher at each school in the district to be trained in the specific dyslexia training that enables teachers to understand and recognize dyslexia and to implement structured literacy instruction that is systematic, explicit, multisensory and evidence-based to meet the educational needs of students with dyslexia. Tax Credit Donation
Crédito de Impuestos
Lower Your Taxes and Support Our Students
The Arizona tax law (A.R.S. 43-1089.01) allows taxpayers a tax credit of up to $400 (for married filing joint return) or $200 (for an individual filer) if they contribute to extracurricular activities in public schools. A tax credit –which is the dollar-for-dollar reduction of your tax liability - is better than a tax deduction, which only reduces your taxable income before taxes are computed. Take this opportunity to donate to the Cartwright school or program of your choice. Click here to fill out the Tax Credit Form.
