Security improvements are a relatively small part of the total bond package, was it included because it is a hot-button issue?
Answer:
Eden Prairie Schools is committed to school safety regardless of the outcome of the referendum. Eden Prairie Schools has already enhanced security over the past few years. The largest portions of the bond proposal are for classroom updates at all schools and improvements to Central Middle School. The timing of this proposal allowed the School Board to ask for funding to speed up the adoption of additional improvements. Without this funding, security improvements would continue, but they would be spread over a few years. If the bond referendum is approved, additional layers of security would be added this summer and next year.
