we’ve heard recently: Will preschool become a required or free program as a result of the 2019 referendum?
Answer:
No. Preschool will remain an optional, fee-based program. Families will continue to pay our Community Education Department for preschool classes. If voters approve the referendum on May 14, the biggest changes would be the location (four-year-old preschool would move inside elementary schools) and district transportation for half-day preschool. There are no plans to provide transportation for full-day preschool due to the flexible, drop-in design of that program. The fee structure will remain in place. For families where the cost is a hardship, there are options for state-funded scholarships and other adjustments to the fee to ensure equitable access.
