Tips for Video Chatting with Young Children – Staying Connected While Far Apart

Do you wonder how to help your young child and his loved ones stay in touch when they are far apart? Children as young as 8 months old respond very well to interactions with people via video chat platforms. Research shows that interactive responsive experiences in real time via video chat enhance even very young children’s language learning. This means as long as the person on the other side of the screen is interacting with and responding in real time, they are not only staying connected to your young child, but can also have many of the positive impacts of responsive communication. Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ)

If you have ever had concerns about your child’s development, or you are just interested in getting a better idea on how your child is developing, you are not alone. With few in person programs over this last year you may be wondering just how your child is doing. The ASQ can help!

The ASQ is a questionnaire designed to be used with children from one month to 5 ½ years old and focuses on 5 areas: Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and Personal/Social. You’ll answer questions with “yes”, “sometimes”, or “not yet”. The ASQ should only take 10-15 minutes for you to fill out.

We support you in your parenting journey and we know that you are your child’s stongest advocate and first teacher! We look forward to working together to ensure that your child is off to the best possible start!

Resources For Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

Resources for Parents and Caregivers

Zero to Three is a great resource for parents and caregivers. They are a non- profit organization that plays a key role in ensuring babies and toddlers get a strong start in life. Strong connections build strong brains! Learn more here.

One Tough Job connects parents in Massachusetts and beyond with the latest and greatest parenting information, ideas, and on-the-ground resources. We also provide a bridge to help you find other moms and dads who have asked the same questions and faced similar challenges. To learn more about what they have to offer, visit there website here.
PHP's mission is helping parents to nurture children and build strong families. They offer a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL parental stress line. You can call them 24/7 at 1.800.632.8188 or checkout their website here.

The resource center offers evidence-based parent education programs, parent support groups, early childhood services, information and referral resources and education for families from every community on Cape Cod. They offer lots of wonderful programs for parents, caregivers, teens and children. The resource center is located in Hyannis. Contact them at (508) 815-5100. Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a nutrition program that provides healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and other services, free of charge, to Massachusetts families who qualify. Contact WIC at (800) 942-1007. Or check out their website.

The Childcare Network (CCN) is a program of the Community Action Committee of Cape Cod and the Islands. They offer free resource and referral services

The Housing Assistance program located in Hyannis, helps low and mid income level households secure housing on Cape Cod and the Islands. They also offer many free educational programs to the community. Check out their offerings here>>. Programs include workshops for First Time Home Buyers as well as seminars to help you set financial goals.

Bourne For Children is Bourne's CFCE (Coordinated Family and Community Engagement) grant through the Department of Early Education and Care. We offer education and support programs for parents with children from birth to age 8. In an effort to create a strong foundation for children, families and our community, we offer workshops, parenting classes, play and learn groups, kindergarten transition programs and community events. All of our programs and services are free.

Bourne For Children is funded by Bourne's Coordinated Family & Community Engagement (CFCE) grant. We provide FREE education and support programs for families with children from birth to school age.
