Issue 3
How to Support Your Student?
As students are transitioning into the Spring semester, we want to ensure that they are feeling supported and able to complete the semester successfully. Back to school time is always stressful and can be overwhelming at times. Encourage your student to plan out their semester and assignments based on their syllabi. But, make sure they leave in time to decompress and step back, to avoid burnout symptoms.
College Updates
To ensure the health and safety for the college community, all students, taking classes or wanting to enter the college, must have the COVID-19 vaccination by September 23rd. The students also will need to upload their proof of vaccination by September 27th.

Black History Month at John Jay
Hi, my name is Brianna Mayne-Olson and I am a senior. One of the really great perks about John Jay is the celebrations throughout the year. During Black History Month John Jay College of Criminal Justice honors the past and celebrates the future. Here is a list of events being held during the month of February:
Back to School!
Hi, my name is Ryan-Alexa and I am a junior majoring in Forensic Science with a concentration in Molecular Biology. The Spring ‘23 semester is officially here, the following are some tips on how your student can succeed and make the most out of their semester! Firstly, it’s important for your student to stay organized. Staying organized can include anything from having a planner to write important deadlines down to planning a study schedule for specific classes. Another way for your student to succeed this semester is to reach out to professors if they are struggling in a class. Most students won’t ask if they have questions, which can negatively impact their overall grade. Professors have office hours for students to attend if they have any questions or concerns, and getting the questions addressed sooner will be beneficial to your student. The last tip for your student to have a great semester is for them to take breaks when they feel it’s necessary. Students sometimes overwhelm themselves with their studies or extracurriculars and forget about setting time aside to take care of themselves. Taking a break is especially important because college isn’t a race, it is about endurance and keeping up with work at a steady pace. Have a great semester bloodhounds!

Why Should You Be Active in the Parent and Family Association?
The Office of Student Transition Programs understands and recognizes the vital role parents and family members play in the academic success of their students. Because family members are a very important part of our College community, we will make every effort to promote family communication and involvement. Whether you are family members of new or returning students, we hope your experience with John Jay is positive and rewarding.

The purpose of the Parent and Family Association is to:
  • Assist family members in navigating campus resources, services, and programs
  • Assist family members in supporting their students and empowering them to take responsibility while enrolled at the College
  • Enhance communication between the College and family members
  • Develop a sense of community amongst John Jay families to provide support, advice, and opportunities for involvement.

This year, we will be sending newsletters, hosting webinars and virtual meet-ups!
