Anything But A Backpack Day!

As part of a Green and Gold competition, students were challenged on Wednesday to carry around their school supplies in anything but a backpack! From pillowcases and wheelbarrows to refrigerators and watercraft, our students certainly used their creativity. Click here for pictures.

Parents’ Weekend

We’re looking forward to Parents’ Weekend, October 14th-15th. New parents have events and a workshop on October 13th. This weekend is a time where you can connect with teachers, houseparents, coaches, advisors, and other parents, as well as listen to engaging parent education sessions tied to this year’s theme: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges. You can also observe recreational activities, cheer on our Lions during athletic competitions, and visit with your child!

Our electronic conference scheduler, pickAtime, is now open for you to schedule your teacher conferences and RSVP to all of our events. Conference times are available on Friday, October 14th, and Saturday, October 15th. To start scheduling, log into the Parent Portal/LION, click on the “Resources” tab, then click on "pickAtime" and you will automatically be logged in to the scheduler. Click here for instructions on how to access pickAtime from the Parent Portal/LION. If you have any questions about pickAtime or cannot attend Parents' Weekend, please contact the Academic Office at academics@formanschool.org or call 860.567.1842.

Parents’ Weekend Guest Speaker

Dr. George McCloskey will be presenting with Jane Benson, Cognition & Learning Teacher, and Allie Maxwell, Assistant Head of School for Internal Affairs, during Parents’ Weekend. Their presentation is called From Cues to Clues: How Understanding Executive Function Can Build a Better Sense of Self.

Dr. McCloskey is a Professor and Director of School Psychology Research in the School for Professional and Applied Psychology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and an author of multiple books and journal articles on executive functions. His research areas include cognition and cognitive neuropsychology and the relationship of these fields to learning/classroom instruction and psychological and educational assessment. In addition, he is consulting with Forman on how the School can implement the most current research findings of executive function (EF) into all aspects of a student's Forman experience. You can learn more about Dr. McCloskey by visiting his website.

Student Picture Day

Forman’s picture day took place on Monday! If your student participated, you will receive an email in a few weeks from Highpoint Pictures. The company will make all proofs of your student available for you to purchase. You will be able to order photos through Highpoint Pictures. For all students who were not on campus this past Monday, we are holding a make-up day this Monday, October 3rd.

Silent Community Lunch

Students interested in practicing their American Sign Language (ASL) skills outside of the classroom now have the opportunity to do so. Cecelia Cannavo, American Sign Language Teacher, launched Silent Community Lunch this year, where there is 0% spoken language and 100% ASL. Click here to read more.

Smoothie Bike

Tuesday and Thursday mornings are smoothie days in the dining hall. This week, students got a special treat: a smoothie bike! The self-propelled machine mixes smoothies as the rider pedals. “It’s a fun way to start the day and feel energized while also having a healthy alternative for breakfast,” says Denee Hinman, Director of Dining Services.

Citizen of the Week

L Johnson ’25 was named Citizen of the Week for being a warm, welcoming member of our community and repeatedly showing kindness to other students and adults. Thank you, L!

Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges Faculty Spotlight

Each month this academic year, we are celebrating one of our faculty members who has exemplified our year-long theme: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges. This month, we celebrated History Teacher Dr. Stefanie Bator.

“I feel really honored and surprised,” Dr. Bator says. “To have so many people think I'm doing a good job is really unexpected. It makes me feel secure, loved, and welcomed in my new community. I am so grateful; what a tremendous gift!”

Athletes of the Week

Seamus Cleary ’25 has taken a big step forward in his second Forman cross country season, both in his individual running and his leadership. In our two races, Seamus finished first for us both times, winning one race entirely and finishing only five seconds behind last year's individual champion in the other. In our most recent race last Saturday against Watkinson and Marvelwood, he won the race outright with ease with a fast time of 18:08. His teammates have taken after his practice and race day approach, and his desire to be the best of the best is contagious. We can't wait to see what else Seamus accomplishes this fall.

Luke DiRocco ’24 led the Varsity Football Team to a win against Millbrook School last Saturday. Luke led the offense under center with 16 carries for 148 yards and three touchdowns and completed seven of 10 passes for 94 yards. Late in the fourth quarter, he led a scoring drive that ate up most of the time left in the game to put the contest out of reach. Beyond his on-field performance, Luke’s leadership on the team is irreplaceable. His preparation and work ethic is always some of the best.
