Parental Choice School Fair Draws 1,000 to Discovery Center in Colorado Springs
To kickoff National School Choice Week, more than 1,000 parents, students, and school leaders gathered January 25th for the 2020 Parental Choice School Fair sponsored by Parents Challenge at The Space Foundation’s Discovery Center in Colorado Springs. The gathering included booths from 65 exhibitors from public, private, charter, home school, and online education programs. Also featured were higher education schools and community organizations throughout the Pikes Peak Region. The gathering included student performances and a variety of entertainment activities. The event was free and open to the public with the goal of empowering parents and students with knowledge of the full range of educational choice options. in the Pikes Peak Region.

More than 200 parents and middle-and-high-school students attended parental empowerment sessions focused on career opportunities and wellness on Jan. 28 at the Southeast Armed Services YMCA.

George Hess from the Housing and Building Association offered a presentation titled “HBA Careers in Construction” that focused on the strong demand for workers in construction trades, as well as programs available to help parents and students land a career in the industry.

Dr. Regina Lewis, founder of Regina Speaks, LLC, and her sister Michele Thompson led a discussion on how to “Jumpstart Your Fitness Best with Internal and External Wellness.” The session provided practical tools for students and adults to help them achieve a healthy lifestyle by healthy eating and exercise.

Parents Challenge provides monthly empowerment sessions to support families in becoming better education consumers and knowing how to access information that will benefit all aspects of their lives from education, finances, mental health, and parenting to health. 
Parents Challenge Hosts Free Screening
of Miss Virginia
As part of National School Choice Week, Parents Challenge hosted a showing of “Miss Virginia,” a film starring Uzo Aduba that was inspired by the true story of education advocate Virginia Walden Ford, whose son’s struggles in school led her to found an effort in Washington, DC, to provide school options for all families.
