What a fabulous start to the 2019-2020 school year! We enjoyed seeing all of our returning families and welcome our new families to the San Miguel community. This week marks the first week of our 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Our first habit is Habit 1, Be Proactive! As students learn about and review each habit, please take some time to discuss the habit with them to see what they are learning. The Habit and Quote of the week will always be listed at the top of our weekly bulletins for your reference. Together, we can develop happy, healthy, 21st century leaders who are appreciative of the arts and guided by emotional intelligence. Below are a few additional reminders to help you plan your week:
I want to start by thanking families for their patience during drop off and dismissal. I was so proud of the kindness that was shown and the observance of our traffic signs. You set such a positive example for our students and the neighbors were truly grateful that we didn’t block their driveways or use their private roads. Thank you so much for your continued support, as we promote traffic safety and model good habits for our students.
This week is Back-to-School Night. On Thursday, August 29th, we will begin in the auditorium at 5:30 pm for a brief Title 1 Presentation and PTA message. Classrooms will be open from 6:00-7:00pm. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about our instructional programs, enrichment opportunities, ways you can support and get involved, and specific classroom policies. Family handbooks, lunch information, family compacts, and much more will also be distributed that night. We hope to see you all there as we partner together to make this a successful year for our students.
6th Grade Camp:
This week is also our 6th grade camp parent information night. If you were unable to attend the information night in June, please join other 6th grade families throughout the district to learn more about Camp Cuyamaca. It’s a wonderful experience and a one-of-kind chance for our students to develop and bond as 6th grade leaders. Our goal is 100% student attendance.
Visitor Sign- In:
Monday, August 26th, marks the first day that parents and visitors will be required to check-in through the front office. Please remember to bring your photo identification. This allows us to check sex offender status and ensures that we know who is on campus in the event of an emergency. It’s possible that we may have long lines the first week, so you may want to arrive early. Our offices open at 7:30am.
Thank you to everyone for observing our school uniform policy. If you have questions about appropriate uniform attire, please see our school website or pick up a flyer in our front office. Not only do uniforms make getting dressed in the morning more efficient, uniforms decrease teasing and promote a sense of community. We are proud to be a uniform school and appreciate your continued support.
