Dear San Miguel Families,
As you know, based on the direction provided by the Governor of California, schools in San Diego County are unable to have students physically return to campus since we are on the COVID-19 watchlist. While Lemon Grove School District and San Miguel Elementary are doing lots of planning for the beginning of the school year, we wanted to make sure that you know you have options for your child's learning.
All students will begin the school year in a distance learning model. More information and details will be coming very soon from the district and our school. Students may be able to physically return to school campuses once the County has been off the COVID-19 watchlist for 14 consecutive days. You also have the choice to enroll your child in a virtual/distance learning education program for the entire 2020-2021 school year, regardless of whether or not students are able to physically return to campus.
A series of parent meetings were held by the district to share information on this year long distance learning option. In case you were not able to watch one of these meetings, please take a look at this recorded presentation:
If you are interested in enrolling your child in the full year distance learning program, you must fill out this commitment form by Friday, August 7, 2020.
When you complete this form, you are committing to a FULL YEAR of distance learning, regardless if the district transitions back to in-person school once the COVID-19 health indicators take us off the watchlist. If you have questions about this full year distance learning program, please email communications@lemongrovesd.net or call 619-885-1319.
San Miguel's health clerk and secretary will be available beginning Friday, August 7th to assist families with enrollment. You may call the office directly at 619-825-5619. You may also pick-up and drop-off registration paperwork at the school's main office. If you do plan on picking-up or dropping-off paperwork, you must wear a face covering and adhere to all health and safety precautionary measures. You may not bring family members to the office for registration.
We know that you have many questions and, understandably, are eager for more details. Please rest assured that as soon as specifics and confirmed plans are available, we will share this information with all our families. This is a time of uncertainty and questions but the commitment to our students is unwavering and our dedication to the San Miguel community is stronger than ever. Please keep an eye out for more updates soon.

Julie Jones
